And 8 of them answer a questionnaire about reasons for selection of Daejeon University hospital, satisfaction for thread embedding therapy and side effects of thread embedding therapy. Results : A total of 59 foreigners visited oriental medicines hospital of Daejeon University for medical service, consisting of 54 females(92 %), the thirties to fifties 71 % by age. The 87.5 % of patients answered that the reason for choosing this hospital was the subsidization of the medical expenses, and 50 % for appropriate payment, 37.5 % for safety, 12.5 % for recommendation of the people who had good experience at this hospital. The 71% of patients selected thread-embedding therapy for treating wrinkles. The degree of satisfaction was evaluated as quite satisfaction of 87.5 %, full satisfaction of 12.5 % showing that a whole number of the patients treated with thread-embedding therapy showed relative satisfaction. This evaluation is, however, a short term survey which should lead to a further term study. For the evaluation of side effects of thread-embedding therapy, 75 % of patients answered as pain occurred during the therapy, 62.5 % as edema, 50 % as hypodermal bleeding. Conclusion : First of all, there should be more constructive promotion and support for medical tour of oriental medicines, ultimately leading to promoting better clusters of oriental medicines. Secondly, support in terms of a medical law should be established for medical disputes, and the best follow-up service should be considered.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to review clinical studies on thread embedding acupuncture (TEA) for the treatment of patients with post-stroke spasticity (PSS) Methods: Clinical studies related to TEA treatment for PSS were searched for in several electronic databases, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, OASIS, and CNKI. After the selection/exclusion process, information on study design, disease, experimental/control group, intervention, outcome measurement, between-group differences, and adverse events was extracted. Results: A total of 13 randomized controlled trials were included in this review. The usual frequency of TEA treatment was once every 1-2 weeks, and the treatment most commonly included 4 sessions. In the dorsal area, EX-B2 and the acupoints in governing vessel meridian were commonly used. Acupoints in the meridian of the large intestine were most frequently used in the treatment of upper limb spasticity. Except for HT1, PC6, and PC8, all TEA points for treating PSS of the upper limb were on the Yang meridians. For the lower limb spasticity, the most frequently used acupoints were ST36, GB34, GB30, BL60, and BL57 on Yang meridians, and LR3, SP6, SP9, and SP10 on Yin meridians. TEA treatment showed better effects than conventional treatment for PSS in terms of spasticity, motor dysfunction, and activities of daily livings. Nevertheless, the absence of the follow-up observation, lack of sham TEA treatment, and low quality of the included studies necessitated caution in interpreting the results. Conclusions: The results of this review are expected to provide basic data on the modalities of TEA treatment for PSS and provide insights to facilitate well-designed studies in the future.

  • In this review, we searched for clinical and experimental studies related to acupuncture-related therapy (ART) on the microbiome in musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) through the electronic databases of MEDLINE via PubMed, EMBASE, and Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System up to May 2023, without language restriction, and after the selection/exclusion process, the study design, target disease, intervention details, treatment period, outcomes, and study results were extracted. A total of 8 articles were selected. Two randomized controlled trials and 6 animal studies evaluated knee osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, spinal cord injury, ankylosing spondylitis, and osteoporosis. ART, including electroacupuncture, thread-embedding acupuncture, and moxibustion, affected microbiome modulation in MSDs. The results reveal that ART could be a potential treatment for regulating the microbiome in MSDs. However, further high-quality studies are needed.

  • Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the effect of Jahyungchim(based on Needle-embedding therapy) for breast augmentation to 30~40's married female patients. Methods : Data were obtained from 40 female patients belonged to 75B or less size who had been treated Jahyungchim. We measured bust circumference(BC) and underbuys circumference(UC) and analyzed the statistical significance between BC and UC by repeated measures ANOVA. Results : BC and the difference between BC and UC were significantly increased and UC was significantly decreased by Jahyungchim. Conclusions : In this study, we can conclude that Jahyungchim has an effect on breast augmentation to 30~40's married female patients.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends on the effects of catgut-embedding therapy on allergic rhinitis. Methods : We searched potentially relevant randomized controlled trials using various electronic databases and extracted data using a standardized form. Results : Finally, 11 studies were selected and analyzed. All studies were conducted in China and the number of studies has increased especially in recent 3 years. 11 studies compared catgut-embedding therapy with usual care, acupuncture, sham catgut-embedding therapy. Most studies showed that catgut-embedding therapy was effective and had long lasting effect compared with comparison group. Conclusions : All studies were conducted in China and it is necessary to review its evidence for clinical application in Korea. Further studies are needed on this topic in order to demonstrate the effectiveness and safety clearly.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to report a case of idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy improved by Korean Medicine therapy including needle-embedding therapy. Methods : We treated a 69-year old male patient who has Rt. ptosis, Rt. eye movement impairment, and dizziness with various Korean medical therapy including acupuncture, Bojungikgitanggami, and Hominis Placenta pharmacopuncture. To promote recovery, we additionally performed needle-embedding therapy to periocular acupoints. Results : Ptosis started to remarkably improve after performing needle-embedding therapy. After 54 days of treatment, ptosis and eye movement impairment of Rt. eye were significantly improved similar to the normal eye. Dizziness was cured in a few days after administration. Conclusions : This case suggests Korean medicine including needle-embedding therapy is effective against oculomotor nerve palsy symptoms especially for ptosis.

  • Objectives : Recently, Thread Embedding Acupucnture (TEA) targeting under dermis became known to be effective for facial wrinkles and folds; its practice has begun in clinics. The introduction of a new form of TEA is continuing, and 'Volume TEA' is introduced recently. Therefore, we would like to report on the improvement of facial wrinkles by using the recently introduced 'volume TEA'. Methods : We reviewed the medical records of three patients who received 'Volume TEA' treatment at a Korean medical clinic, the photographs taken before and after the procedure were corrected using a Photoshop program and the length of the each wrinkles and folds were measured. Results : The length of wrinkles measured in all three cases decreased. Especially, the decrease of the length of the nasolabial folds was obvious. In case 1, the length of the nasolabial folds of 177mm and 97mm were reduced to 94mm and 63mm, respectively. In the case 2, the length of the nasolabial folds of 155mm and 155mm were reduced to 0mm and 70mm, respectively, after the procedure. In case 3, the length of the nasolabial folds of 170mm and 50mm decreased to 38mm and 37mm after the procedure, respectively. Conclusions : At present, it seems that the ongoing accumulation of relevant studies on the efficacy and safety of wrinkle and folds of TEA seems necessary. This study also has some significance in the level of case report.
