Embedded Home Network System Security using VPN (VPN을 이용한 Embedded 홈 네트워크 시스템 보안)

  • The home network system of ubiquitous computing concept is changing present our home life as more comfortable and safe. Also, it permits that we can connect the home network system and control the appliance which is linked to the home network system without limitation in time and place. But, as other systems that use the public network like the Internet, remote control/monitoring of the home network system that use the Internet includes problems such as user's access which is not admitted and information changing. This paper presents the efficient solution about the security problem that is recognized to important problem of the home network system. Also this paper implements the security of the home network system based on the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), adding VPN (Virtual Private Network) router that uses the IPsec to the home network system which is consisted of the ARM9 and the Embedded Linux.

  • Recently, most of the embedded system have the function of multimedia information processing and network connecting. This make the overall system more complicated and need a new approach. Moreover the embedded system must be real-time system, which are different with Linux is constructed and the kernel is redesigned on the strong-arm board in order to make the real-time embedded web-server system.

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) is recognized as one of the most important tool of quality control (QC), and is one research focus in order to implement SPC quickly and effectively using computer technology and network environments. This paper proposes the principle and topology of embedded SPC based on the Internet/lntranet, emphatically discusses the embedded data sampling block, embedded network interface and SPC strategy. An example of application is given.

Web-based Building Automation System using Embedded Linux (임베디드 리눅스를 이용한 웹 기반 빌딩자동화시스템)

  • In this paper, a Web-based management system for the building network is described. A multi-protocol converter based on SoC and embedded Linux is designed. The open source licensing, reliability, and broad hardware support are key reasons for use of embedded Linux in embedded industry. The multi-protocol converter integrates control network of RS-485 and LonWorks devices through TCP/IP protocol for a client with Java applet. The system consists of three-tier architecture, such as a client, a server that is performed on a multi-protocol converter, and control devices. The developed system includes the inverter motor control system with modbus protocol for the RS-485 network. The experiment results show that the multi-protocol converter using embedded Linux is a flexible and effective way to builda Web -based monitoring and control system.

  • Developing network software in embedded systems, such as digital set-top boxes, requires coding under limited computing resources. This paper presents the porting of Point-to-point Protocol (PPP) software, PPPD, to an embedded system. The PPP is the most popular link layer protocol for the information appliance, to an embedded system. In order to achieve this, problems to be solved for the porting were identified and methods to solve the problems were described. First, PPP source codes were divided into modules. Next, functions of each module were analyzed and interfaces between the modules were delineated. With the analysis results, porting to the embedded system was described. The normal operation of the ported software was verified with the help of a network packet analyzer. Finally, experiences during the porting were presented. The method developed in th paper can be applied to the porting of software to an embedded system as well as the porting of network software.

  • Most network equipment is an embedded system designed to execute specific function. An embedded system is an electronic control system mixing hardware and software to execute only fixed function for the purpose of system, not confuter, performing diverse function for a wide use. Early embedded system executed only simple function, combining specific function with optimization, a micro size, and low power, but it has developed to meet complex and diverse system. The purpose of this study is to realize DHCP server based on embedded system. To achieve this, embedded Linux was ported in ez Bord-M01 mounted with Intel Strong ARM SA1110 processor, and ethernet-based network was constructed for network function. In this way, this study suggests embedded DHCP server where Window and Linux client hosts are dynamically configurated as network information by dynamically assigning network information in embedded board.

  • PC users could experience some inconvenience when they use their PC that was physically connected to network printers shared by other People in the network due to the overload. This paper shows how to resolve this kind of overload problem and established the embedded printer system based on embedded Linux system which performs the printer server in order for any users in the of ice to do printing work more smoothly via current network. It's own capabilities and functions were verified throughout the various tests in practical environment.

  • Modern distributed control systems focus on system openness, network system architecture and PC based controller. This paper discusses the embedded systems with ORB for distributed control systems. Embedded systems have merits such as small size, low cost and user convenience. ORB allows users to program easily by using IDL and provides client/server network for heterogeneous platforms. By using embedded systems and ORB, we implement the system and validate it by using VME system. The developed system has benefits when it is applied to distributed control systems.

  • Recent advances in electronics have enabled various conventional products to incorporate with numerous powerful microcontroller. Generally, an embedded system is a computer system designed for specific control functions within a larger system, often with real-time computing constraints. The growing performance and reliability of hardware components and the possibilities brought by various design method enabled implementing complex functions that improve the comport of the system's occupant as well as their safety. A cyber physical system (CPS) is a system featuring a tight combination of, and coordination between, the system's computational and physical elements. The concept of cyber physical system, including physical elements, cyber elements, and shared networks, has been introduced due to two general reasons: design flexibility and reliability. This paper presents a cyber physical system where system components are connected to a shared network, and control functions are divided into small tasks that are distributed over a number of embedded controllers with limited computing capacity. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of cyber physical system, an unmanned forklift with autonomous obstacle avoidance ability is implemented and its performance is experimentally evaluated.

  • Middleware enables different networking devices and protocols to inter-operate in ubiquitous home network environments. The UPnP(Universal Plug and Play) middleware, which runs on a PC and is based on the IPv4 protocol, has attracted much interest in the field of home network research since it has versatility The UPnP, however, cannot be easily accessed via the public Internet since the UPnP devices that provide services and the Control Points that control the devices are configured with non-routable local private or Auto IP networks. The critical question is how to access UPnP network via the public Internet. The purpose of this paper is to deal with the non-routability problem in local private and Auto IP networks by improving the conventional Control Point used in UPnP middleware-based home networks. For this purpose, this paper proposes an improved Control Point for accessing and controlling the home network from remote sites via the public Internet, by adding a web server to the conventional Control Point. The improved Control Point is implemented in an embedded GNU/Linux system running on an ARM9 platform. Also this paper implements the security of the home network system based on the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), adding VPN (Virtual Private Network) router that uses the IPsec to the home network system which is consisted of the ARM9 and the Embedded Linux.
