  • An extended Jacobin elliptic function method is presented for constructing exact travelling wave solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations(PDEs) in a unified way. The main idea of this method is to take full advantage of the elliptic equation that Jacobin elliptic functions satisfy and use its solutions to replace Jacobin elliptic functions in Jacobin elliptic function method. It is interesting that many other methods are special cases of our method. Some illustrative equations are investigated by this means.

  • We consider a distributed optimal flux control problem: finding the potential of which gradient approximates the target vector field under an elliptic constraint. Introducing the Lagrange multiplier and a change of variables the Euler-Lagrange equation turns into a coupled equation of an elliptic equation and a reaction diffusion equation. The change of variables reduces iteration steps dramatically when the Gauss-Seidel iteration is considered as a solution method. For the elliptic equation solver we consider the Cell Boundary Element (CBE) method, which is the finite element type flux preserving methods.

  • This article explains how solitons propagate when there is a detuning factor involved. The explanation is based on the nonlinear complex Ginzburg-Landau equation, and we first consider this equation before systematically deriving its solutions using Jacobian elliptic functions. We illustrate that one specific ellipticity modulus is on the verge of occurring. The findings from this study can contribute to the understanding of previous research on the Ginzburg-Landau equation. Additionally, we utilize Jacobi's elliptic functions to define specific solutions, especially when the ellipticity modulus approaches either unity or zero. These solutions correspond to particular periodic wave solitons, which have been previously discussed in the literature.

  • By using general means, some oscillation criteria for second order nonlinear elliptic differential equation with damping $$\sum_{i,j=1}^{N}D_i[a_{ij}(x)D_iy]+\sum_{i=1}^{N}b_i(x)D_iy+p(x)f(y)=0$$ are obtained. These criteria are of a high degree of generality and extend the oscillation theorems for second order linear ordinary differential equations due to Kamenev, Philos and Wong.

  • In this paper we give conditions for the existence of, and describe the asymtotic behavior of, radial positive solutions of the nonlinear elliptic equation of Emden-Fowler type with convection term ∆p u + 𝛼|u|q-1u + 𝛽x.∇(|u|q-1u) = 0 for x ∈ ℝN, where p > 2, q > 1, N ≥ 1, 𝛼 > 0, 𝛽 > 0 and ∆p is the p-Laplacian operator. In particular, we determine ${\lim}_{r{\rightarrow}}{\infty}\,r^{\frac{p}{q+1-p}}\,u(r)$ when $\frac{{\alpha}}{{\beta}}$ > N > p and $q\,{\geq}\,{\frac{N(p-1)+p}{N-p}}$.

  • The problem of finding rational or integral points of an elliptic curve basically boils down to solving a cubic equation. We look closely at the cubic formula of Cardano to find a criterion for a cubic polynomial to have a rational or integral roots. Also we show that existence of a rational root of a cubic polynomial implies existence of a solution for certain Diophantine equation. As an application we find some integral solutions of some special type for $y^2=x^3+b$.

  • In this paper, we consider the existence of a solution to the elliptic nonlinear partial differential equation ${\Delta}u+H({\chi})e^{u}$ = 0 (H $\neq$ 0) (1) on a compact manifold without boundary. This equation is related to the problem of a pointwise conformal deformation of metrics on two dimensional compact connected manifolds.(omitted)
