  • This paper presents a Reliability-Based Topology Optimization(RBTO) using the Evolutionary Structural Optimization(ESO). An actual design involves some uncertain conditions such as material property, operational load and dimensional variation. The Deterministic Topology Optimization(DTO) is obtained without considering the uncertainties related to the uncertainty parameters. However, the RBTO can consider the uncertainty variables because it has the probabilistic constraints. In order to determine whether the probabilistic constraints are satisfied or not, simulation techniques and approximation methods are developed. In this paper, the reliability index approach(RIA) is adopted to evaluate the probabilistic constraints. In order to apply the ESO method to the RBTO, sensitivity number is defined as the change in the reliability index due to the removal of the ith element. Numerical examples are presented to compare the DTO with the RBTO.

  • Improved far field type(improved type) megasonic applicable to the cleaning equipment of single wafer processing type has been developed. In this study, to improve the uniformity of acoustic pressure distribution(APD), we utilize far field with relatively uniform APD, piezoelectric ceramic with a triangle hole in its center to prevent standing wave resulted from radial mode, and reflected wave from the wall of waveguide. On the basis of these methods, two analysis models of improved type were designed to which piezoelectric ceramic of different shape of electrode attached, and APD were analyzed by means of finite element method, and then one of them was selected by analysis results, finally, the selected model was fabricated. Test results show that the fabricated is better in the uniformity of APD than the imported and the conventional, also the fabricated shows high particle removal efficiency of 92.3% using DI water alone as a cleaning solution.

  • Extraction is a necessary element in the bioconversion of lignocellulosics to fuels and chemicals. Although various forms of chemical pretreatment of cellulosic materials have been proposed, their effectiveness varies depending on the treatment conditions and substrate. In this study, mixed hardwood (MH) and loblolly pine (LP) were pretreated with dilute acid in a 100 mL accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) at the predetermined optimal conditions: temperature: $170^{\circ}C$, acid concentration: 0.5% (w/v), and reaction time: 2~64 min. This method was highly effective for extracting the hemicellulose fraction. Total xmg (defined as the sum of xylose, mannose, and galactose) can be extracted from milled MH and LP through pressurized dilute acid treatment in maximum yields of 12.6 g/L and 15.3 g/L, respectively, representing 60.5% and 70.4% of the maximum possible yields, respectively. The crystallinity index increased upon pretreatment, reflecting the removal of the amorphous portion of biomass. The crystalline structure of the cellulose in the biomass, however, was not changed by the ASE extraction process.

  • This paper presents a three-dimensional finite element method based structural analysis model for structural analysis of reinforced concrete high-rise buildings during construction. The model considered the time-dependency of the structural configuration and material properties as well as the effect of the construction rate and shoring stiffness. Uniaxial compression tests of young concrete within 28 days of age were conducted to establish the time-dependent compressive stress-strain relationship of concrete, which was then used as input parameters to the structural analysis model. In-situ tests of a RC high-rise building were conducted, the results of which were used for model verification. Good agreement between the test results and model predictions was achieved. At the end, a parametric study was conducted using the verified model. The results indicated that the floor position and construction rate had significant effect on the shore load, whereas the influence of the shore removal timing and shore stiffness have much smaller. It was also found that the floors are more prone to cracking during construction than is ultimate bending failure.

  • In this work, the electrokinetic interactions between the undulated structure of an ion-selective membrane and electroconvective instability has been studied using numerical analysis. Using finite element method, electric field-ionic species transport-flow field were analyzed by fully-coupled manner. Through the numerical study, the Dukhin's mode as the mechanism of undulated surface for the electroconvective instability were proven. The Dukhin's mode which competes with Rubinstein's mode has roles of (i) decreasing transition voltage to overlimiting regime and (ii) non-linearly increasing of overlimiting current. Also, (iii) the mixing efficiency is enhanced by removal mechanism of high-frequency Fourier mode of the electroconvective instability. Conclusively, the undulated ion-selective surface would provide energy-efficient mechanism for ion-selective transport systems such as electrodialysis, electrochemical battery, etc.

  • Purpose: The effect of global inhomogeneity on quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) was investigated. A technique referred to as Simultaneous Unwrapping Phase with Error Recovery from inhomogeneity (SUPER) is suggested as a preprocessing to QSM to remove global field inhomogeneity-induced phase by polynomial fitting. Materials and Methods: The effect of global inhomogeneity on QSM was investigated by numerical simulations. Three types of global inhomogeneity were added to the tissue susceptibility phase, and the root mean square error (RMSE) in the susceptibility map was evaluated. In-vivo QSM imaging with volunteers was carried out for 3.0T and 7.0T MRI systems to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method. Results: The SUPER technique removed harmonic and non-harmonic global phases. Previously only the harmonic phase was removed by the background phase removal method. The global phase contained a non-harmonic phase due to various experimental and physiological causes, which degraded a susceptibility map. The RMSE in the susceptibility map increased under the influence of global inhomogeneity; while the error was consistent, irrespective of the global inhomogeneity, if the inhomogeneity was corrected by the SUPER technique. In-vivo QSM imaging with volunteers at 3.0T and 7.0T MRI systems showed better definition in small vascular structures and reduced fluctuation and non-uniformity in the frontal lobes, where field inhomogeneity was more severe. Conclusion: Correcting global inhomogeneity using the SUPER technique is an effective way to obtain an accurate susceptibility map on QSM method. Since the susceptibility variations are small quantities in the brain tissue, correction of the inhomogeneity is an essential element for obtaining an accurate QSM.

  • It follows in deterioration of the steel frame structure and becomes remodeling and removal. The construction work characteristic, economical efficiency and stability environment characteristic are planned and considered hereafter control plan of the steel frame structure which is deteriorated currently to cutting mettled plentifully sued on gas cutting of H beam. However it will not be able to apply from the explosives demolition which is makes a weak instantaneously and then collapses the building at the time. In this study, shape charge was used for cutting of the H-beam. That is the element testing to estimate explosives demolition for steel frame structure. As a result, it is found for single-side rutting method, both-sides rutting methods by H-beam thickness and pre-rutting process. It confirmed an affix method and an ease characteristic by fixing tool. Also, it is shown that air blasting decreased about 8dB(A) in order to reduce air blasting used by sand box. However, it will be required to reduce air blasting little more because explosives demolition will be done in urban site.

  • Purpose: The zygomatic arch is a key element which composes the facial contour. In many cases of zygomatic arch fracture, it is difficult to fix rigidly the fractured segments. If reduced bone segments were not fixed rigidly, they are proven to be displaced by mastication or unintentional external forces. So, unfixed zygomatic arch fracture after reduction may require a external device of prevention of collapse. We introduce a new protector which stabilizing the fractured segments to prevent for collapse of the reduced zygomatic arch fracture. Methods: After reduction of zygomatic arch with blind approach(Gillies', Dingman or Keen's approach), bone segments was pulled with percutaneous traction suture in medial aspect of zygomatic arch. Then, the suture was fixed with Aqua $splint^{(R)}$, externally. And intraoperative and postoperative X-ray was done. The splint was removed on 14 days after the operation. Results: 5 patients were treated with this method. 4 patients of total patients had no collapse in zygomatic arch. There was minimal collapse in one patient. Postoperative complications such as facial nerve injury, mouth opening difficulty, contour deformity, infection, scar were not observed. Conclusion: In comparison with other techniques, this technique has several advantages which are simple and easy method, short operation time, no scar, less soft tissue injury, and facilitated removal of splint. Therefore, Aqua $splint^{(R)}$ would be a good alternative to prevent for collapse in unstable zygomatic arch fractures

  • Ultrasonic grinding system is that the ultrasonic vibration by ultrasonic actuator is applied on conventional grinding system during grinding process. The Ultrasonic vibration with a frequency of over 20kHz can reduce grinding forces and increase surface quality, material removal rate (MRR) and grinding wheel life. In addition, ultrasonic vibration assisted grinding can be used for the materials that are difficult to cut. In this paper, methodology for ultrasonic tools is studied based on finite element method, and in turn the ultrasonic tools are designed and fabricated. It is found that the ultrasonic tool can vibrate with a frequency of 20kHz and amplitude of $25{\mu}m$. In order to verify the machining performance, the grinding experiment is performed on titanium alloy. By applying ultrasonic vibration, the grinding force and temperature are reduced and MRR is increased compared with the conventional grinding.

  • Iron-loaded activated carbon fibers (Fe-ACF) supported titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) photocatalyst (Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$) was synthesized using a sol-gel method. Three different types of Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ were obtained by treatment with different precursor of Fe, and characterized using BET, SEM, XRD and EDX analysis. The photocatalytic activity of Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ was investigated by the degradation of Rhodamine B (Rh.B) solution under UV irradiation. From the experimental results, it was revealed that Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites show considerable photocatalytic ability for the removal of Rh.B by comparing non-treated ACF/$TiO_2$ composites. And photo-Fenton reaction with Fe element was incoordinately influenced due to different precursor of Fe. It clearly indicates that Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites prepared using $FeCl_3$ provided the highest photo-Fenton activity, then, which was affected by pH changes on the degradation of Rh.B.
