  • GNS/PVDF composites were prepared using graphite nanosheets (GNS) and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) for flexible thermoelectric application. We measured the electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of GNS/PVDF composites with different contents of GNS and then evaluated the thermoelectric properties of GNS/PVDF composites. The electrical conductivity of GNS/PVDF composites increased from 389 to 1512 S/m with increasing the content of GNS from 10 to 70 wt%. While the electrical conductivity dramatically increased, Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity did not show any big difference as the content of GNS increases. In this study, we demonstrated that GNS/PVDF composites improved the thermoelectric properties by decreasing the thermal conductivity due to the phonon scattering at the interfaces between polymer and GNS nanoplatelets.

  • The behavior of properties of ion exchanged substrate glasses was investigated in this study. In order to study the effects of ion exchange, ion exchange behavior with ion penetration depth, amount of ion exchange, density and thermal expansion was measured according to the time and temperature. The mechanical properties were evaluated by the three point bending test and curvature change, and then fracture patterns were investigated by optical microscope.

  • Recycl ing of PP/EPR based bumper coated with polyester urethane paint has been per formed by chemical decoating method. Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESP11 has been applied to characterize the deformation of polyolef in based bumper. In additon, physical properties and processability of recycled materials have been investigated by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, impact test and melt flower index measurement. The results show that the deformation ratio of recycled material is higher than that of virgin one. The morphological change of EPR, degree of distribution and dispersion during the recycling process seem to be the most important factor for the deformation and the mechanical properties of recycled materials. The experimental results obtained show that ESPI is very powerful technique to study the thermal mechanical property of polyolefin bumper system.

  • Thermal simulation of typical stack-type and newly proposed planar-type micro-gas sensors were studied by FEM method. the thermal analysis for the proposed planar structure including temperature distribution over the sensing layer and power consumption of the heater were carried using finite element method by computer simulation and well compared with those of typical stack-type micro-gas sensor. The thermal properties of the microsensor from thermal simulation were compared with those of an actual device to investigate the acceptability of the computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we have investigated thermal properties and Impurities content of specimens showing by changing the content of carbon black that is semiconductive materials for underground power transmission. Specimens were made of sheet form with the three of existing resins and the nine of specimens for measurement. Impurities content of specimens was measured by ICPAES(Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer). Heat capacity(ΔH) and melting temperature(Tm) were measured by DSC(Differential Scanning Calorimetry). The ranges of measurement temperature were from $0^{\circ}C$ to 20$0^{\circ}C$, and heating temperature was 4$^{\circ}C$/min. And then thermal diffusivity was measured by LFA 447. The measurement temperature was $25^{\circ}C$. Impurities content was highly measured according to increasing the content of carbon black from ICPAES results. And heat capacity and melting temperature from the DSC results were simultaneously decreased according to increasing the content of carbon black, while thermal diffusivity was increased according to increasing the content of carbon black. Because ionic impurities of carbon black containg Fe, Co, Mn, Al, and Zn were rapidly increasing kinetic energy by vibration of ionic impurities through the applied heat energy.

  • Al doped zinc oxide films (ZnO:Al) were deposited on glass substrate by RF magnetron sputtering from a ZnO target mixed with 2 wt% $Al_2O_3$. The as-deposited ZnO:Al films were rapid-thermal annealed. Electrical properties and structural evolution of the films, as annealed by rapid thermal process (RTP), were studied and compared with the films annealed by conventional annealing process. RTP, the (002) peak intensity increases and the electrical resistivity decreases by 20%, after RT annealing. The effects of RT annealing on the structural evolution and electrical properties of RF sputtered films were further discussed and compared also with the films deposited by DC magnetron sputtering.

  • This paper describes the imidization of PAAS(polyamic acid alkylamine salts) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films and the electrical properties of PAAS and polyimide(PI) LB films, The imidization conditons were investigated by TGA(Thermal Gravi-tational Analysis). FT-IR and UV/ visible absorption spectra. A thermal imidiczation was peformed at 300$^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The electrical properties of the PAAS and polymide LB films were measured by current-voltate(L-V) characteristics It shows that the electrical condcutivity of PL LB films is about 10 $\^$-15/S/cm which is two orders of magnetiude lower than that of the PAAS LB films A Schottky effect was also observed in both films.

  • Because the Pb-based piezoelectric materials showed problems such as an environmental pollution. lead-free $O_3$ materials were studied in the present study. The $O_3$ thin films were deposited at $640^{\circ}C$ on $Pt/Ti/SiO_2$ substrate by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and were annealed for 5 min at $750^{\circ}C$ using rapid thermal annealing (RTA) in nitrogen atmosphere. Samples annealed at $750^{\circ}C$ showed a smooth morphology and an improvement of the dielectric and leakage properties, as compared with as-grown samples. However, electrical properties of the $O_3$ thin films obtained in the present study should be improved for piezoelectric applications.

  • In this paper, the effect of thermal annealing on surface acoustic wave (SAW) properties of aluminum nitride (AlN) films were described. The films were fabricated on Si substrates by using Pulsed Reactive Magnetron Sputtering System. The SAW properties of $600^{\circ}C$-annealed AlN films were better than those of both $900^{\circ}C$-annealed AlN films and as-deposited ones. Their SAW velocities (Raleigh mode) and insertion losses were about 5212 m/s and 16.19 dB at $600^{\circ}C$ with the wavelength of $40{\mu}m$. The dependence of characteristics of AlN films on annealing conditions were also evaluated by using Fourier Transform-Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) Spectrums and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM).

  • To verify the applicability of High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) cable system into the real grid, the HTS cable system with the specification of 22.9 kV, 1250 A, 100 m long was installed in the second quarter of 2006, and the long term field test has been in progress at the KEPCO's Gochang power testing yard. Apart from the conventional power cable, HTS cable system requires sufficient thermo-mechanical strength to endure a large temperature difference. To date, the KEPCO HTS cable system was cooled down and warmed to the room temperature several times to investigate the influence of thermal cycles experimentally. Dielectric properties, critical current dependance and heat losses were evaluated at each step of thermal cycle. The test results showed that thermal cycle did not induce the degradation of dielectric properties, and the critical current decreased to 5 % of the initial value.
