  • Purpose: This study is to prepare tintable hard coatings for plastic lenses and to evaluate spectroscopic and surface characteristic for these coatings. Methods: These coatings had been prepared by the sol-gel method using TEOS, MTMS and GPTS. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, infrared (IR) spectroscopy and UV/VIS spectroscopy have been used to investigate the optical and structural characteristics of the coatings. Results: Tint ability of this coating was about 2 times higher than general hard coatings. The lenses applied by tintable hard coatings showed excellent adhesion, abrasion resistance, hot water resistance, and chemical resistance. Pencil hardness was 5H and the surface of coatings was smooth and free of cracks. Conclusions: This hard coating system for plastic lenses offered a hard and stable surface that could be tinted.

  • The aim of this study was to analyze the surface ultrastructure of RGP contact lenses post-use The RGP contact lenses, to investigate, were selected after one month, six months and one year of wear by the subjects. The anterior and posterior surfaces of these RGP contact lenses were inspected by a scanning electron microscope. The results were the following: 1. After one month of RGP contact lens use the anterior and posterior surfaces appeared clean and clear as originally. 2. After six months the anterior surface had several scars, dips, cracks and scratches. Upon the posterior surface appeared several foreign bodies and microorganisms. 3. After one year there was large scale damage and many foreign bodies were observed. Therefore, extended use of RGP contact lenses has shown increasing physical damage and extensive foreign body accumulation upon the ultrastructure of the lens surface.

  • $TiO_2$ films were deposited on a glass substrate with RF magnetron sputtering and then surface of $TiO_2$ films were electron beam irradiated in a vacuum condition to investigate the effect of electron bombardment on the thin film crystallization, surface roughness and gas sensitivity for hydrogen. $TiO_2$ films that electron beam irradiated at 450eV were amorphous phase, while the films irradiated at 900 eV show the anatase (101) diffraction peak in XRD pattern. AFM measurements show that the roughness is depend on the electron irradiation energy. As increase the hydrogen gas concentration and operation temperature, the gas sensitivity of $TiO_2$ and $TiO_2$/ZnO films is increased proportionally and $TiO_2$ films that electron beam irradiated at 900 eV show the higher sensitivity than the films were irradiated at 450eV. From the XRD pattern and AFM observation, it is supposed that the crystallization and rough surface promote the hydrogen gas sensitivity of $TiO_2$ films.

  • New nonliner organic materials have been developed for all-optical signal processing. The organic materials possess many interesting features for this purpose. Unlike inorganic molecules the delocalized $\pi$-electron distribution and intramolecular charge transfer mevhanism allows certain organic molecules to respond highly anharmonically to an external field. In the present paper the origins of nonlinear phenomena, advantages of orgnic materials and structures of organic devices will be discussed.

  • In nonlinear optics, the properties of nonlinear optical responses such as polarization and nonlinear analysis of the nonlinear surfaces were investigated using the jellium model by optical second harmonic generation. The nonlinear response of the Al metal surfaces were calculated using TDLDA. Band structure, lattice constant and bulk modulus of the Al metal were investigated. Effective potential and electron density were compared by changing different.

  • Spatial resolution is determined by the performance of x-ray optics used in the x-ray imaging system. A zone plate was designed for obtaining a high spatial resolution image at x-ray energy of 8.5keV. A spatial resolution of 80 nm was estimated by the ray tracing when an x-ray tube of tungsten targe was used instead of synchrotron radiation. The designed zone plate of outermost zone width of 40nm was successfully fabricated by the electron-beam lithography.

  • Today some many types of 3D display are developed but that are not possibly multiviewer, multiview and full parallax. Our new research work uses the Quantum optic to develop 3D display. Quantum mechanically, we can think of the first photon making a virtual transition to the second state. If the second photon appears within the lifetime of that state, the absorption sequence to the third level can be completed. When the electron, located in the third state, shifts to the first state, that electron emits one visible photon. We controlled the two invisible lights to draw a pixel in volume.

  • Surface photovoltage (SPV) measurements were performed to investigate the optic-electrical properties in the electron beam irradiation semi-insulating GaAs (e-beam irradiation SI-GaAs) and semi-insulating GaAs (SI-GaAs). The signal intensity showed stronge. dependency on the frequency in the SI-GaAs than it did in the e-beam irradiation SI-GaAs. This result indicates that the number of the generated photo-carriers depends on the surface state. Also, the B region of the e-beam irradiation SI-GaAs found a weak signal. This result was explained by the surface and internal damage with e-beam irradiation.

  • Microlens precisely fabricated by MEMS process, is a key component of the Microcolumn, Since, miniaturization can reduces aberrations, microcolumn is expected to have better performance than conventional columns. Depending on the fabrication techniques, the sectional view of micro lens has different shape. In the paper, the effect of the sectional shape of extractor lens and limiting aperture on the focusing property of microcolumns have been studied.

  • To directly engrave circuit-line patterns as wide as $6{\mu}m$ in a buildup film to be used as an IC substrate, we applied a projection ablation technique in which an 8 inch dielectric ($ZrO_2/SiO_2$) mask, a DPSS 355nm laser instead of an excimer laser, a ${\pi}$-shaper and a galvo scanner are used. With the ${\pi}$-shaper and a square aperture, the Gaussian beam from the laser is shaped into a square flap-top beam. The galvo scanner before the $f-{\theta}$ lens moves the flat-top beam ($115{\mu}m{\times}105{\mu}m$) across the 8 inch dielectric mask whose patterned area is $120mm{\times}120mm$. Based on the results of the previous research by the authors, the projection ratio was set at 3:1. Experiments showed that the average width and depth of the engraved patterns are $5.41{\mu}m$ and $7.30{\mu}m$, respectively.
