Preparation and Characterization of Nanoscaled Poly(vinyl alcohol) fibers via Electrospinning

  • Nanoscaled PVA fibers were prepared by electrospinning. This paper described the electrospinning process, the processing conditions fiber morphology, and some potential applications of the PVA nato-fibers. PVA fibers with various diameters (50-250 nm) were obtained by changing solution concentration, voltage and tip to collector distance (TCD). The major factor was the concentration of PVA solution which affected the fiber diameter evidently. Increasing the concentration, the fiber diameter was increased, and the amount of beads was reduced even to 0%. The fibers were found be efficiently crosslinked by glyoxal during the curing process. Phosphoric acid was used as a catalyst activator to reduce strength losses during crosslinking. Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) techniques were employed to characterize the morphology and crosslinking of PVA fibers. It was fecund that the primary factor which affected the crosslinking density was the content of chemical crosslinking agent.

  • Piezoelectric ZnO thin films were deposited on slide glass by Facing Targets Sputtering(FTS). The Facing Targets Sputtering system can deposit thin film in plasma-free situation and change the deposition condition in wide range. The characteristics of zinc oxide thin films on power, working pressure, and substrate temperature were investigated by XRD (x-ray diffractometer), alpha-step (Tencor) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) analyses. In the results, we suggest that FTS system is very suitable to preparing high quality ZnO thin films with good c-axis orientation.

나노 양자우물구조를 이용한 광통신용 방향성 결합기의 설계 (Design of optical directional couplers using Nano-Scale MQWs)

  • 나노 크기 양자우물구조로 구성된 광통신용 방향성결합기를 모드전송선천 이론을 이용하여 설계하였다. 그 타당성과 유용성을 보이기 위하여 나노 결합기의 그 전파특성과 결합특성을 서로 다른 유효질량으로 구성된 이중 양자우물구조에서 분석하였다. 그 수치해석 결과 전체 전자에너지가 83.9 meV일 때, 결합길이 295.3 nm에서 최대 결합효율을 나타내었다. 더욱이, 이중 양자우물구조 사이의 장벽(barrier) 두께가 증가함에 따라 협대역(narrowband) 필터로 동작하였다.

Ultrathin Polymer Networks of Itaconic Acid Copolymers and Poly(allkylamine) by the ;angmuir-Blodgett Technique

  • Ultrathin networks of itaconic acid copolymers and poly(allylamine) were produced by a Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique employing a double-chain amine as a monolayer template which was subsequently removed by extraction after thermal crosslinking. Itaconic acid copolymers used were copoly (itaconic acid-ethyl vinyl ether) and copoly (itaconic acid-n-butyl vinyl ether). The polyion-complexed monolayers of three components consisting of template amine, itaconic acid copolymer and poly (allylamine) were formed at the air-water interface. The Langmuir film properties have been studied by the surface pressure-area isotherm and fluorescence microscopy. The monolayers were transferred on solid substrates and were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Two-dimensional polymer networks were formed through imide or amide linkages by heat treatment under vacuum. The heat-treated films were extracted with chloroform after immersion in aq. sodium chloride to remove the template amines. SEM observation of a LB film on a porous fluorocarbon membrane filter with pore diameter of 0.1 μm showed covering of the pores by six layers in the polyion complex state.

  • The extracted field emission current can be used to controllably heat microfabricated cold field emission cathode tips. The heating can be sufficient to smooth and recrystallize the tip surface by surface self-diffusion, and at least partially clean the surface of contaminants by thermal desorption. Self-heating not only allows for the achievement and maintenance of stable emission characteristics, but can be used to make the current-voltage characteristics of microfabricated field emitter tips nearly identical to one another. The resulting improvement in emission uniformity will allow for more reliable array operation at increased electron emission current densities.

알루미늄 주조과정에서 배출되는 입자상물질의 물리·화학적 특성 (Physicochemical Characteristics of Particulate Matter Emitted from Aluminum Casting Process)

  • PM (Particulate Matters) was collected from a bag filter dust collector at an aluminum foundries, and its physicochemical properties were investigated using particle size analyzer and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (SEM/EDS). The median volume diameter of the particles passing through the pretreatment dust collector of the cyclone was approximately 10 ㎛. The cyclone pretreatment dust collector was shown to significantly reduce the throughput of large particles with a particle size of 100 ㎛ or more. The chemical composition of the particles showed a high Al content, and trace amounts of Mg, Si, and Zn were detected.

Sodium Hydroxide-urea 수용액을 이용하여 제조한 셀룰로오스계 에어로겔의 특성 (Characteristics of Cellulose Aerogel Prepared by Using Aqueous Sodium Hydroxide-urea)

  • Sodium hydroxide-urea 수용액을 이용한 다공성 셀룰로오스계 에어로겔은 용해, 겔화, 재생, 유기용매 치환과 동결건조과정에 의해 제조되었다. 에어로겔의 구조적 특성과 다공성은 주사전자현미경과 질소흡착장치를 이용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 용해펄프는 완전히 용해되었지만, 여과지와 홀로셀룰로오스는 원심분리과정에서 수용액에 용해된 부분과 용해되지 않은 부분으로 구분되었다. 용해펄프 에어로겔의 표면은 다공성 공극, 내부는 그물모양의 망목상 구조가 관찰되었다. 여과지와 홀로셀룰로오스 에어로겔은 표면이 압축된 다공성 네트워크 형태였고, 내부는 open-pore 구조의 나노피브릴 네트워크로 구성되었다. 홀로셀룰로오스 에어로겔에서 수용액에 용해되지 않는 형태의 섬유들이 관찰되었다. 용해펄프로부터 만들어진 에어로겔의 비표면적은 260~326 $m^2/g$ 범위였고, 농도 증가와 함께 감소하였다. 그러나 여과지 에어로겔의 비표면적(198~418 $m^2/g$)은 농도 증가와 함께 증가하였다. 홀로셀룰로오스 에어로겔은 2% 농도에서는 137 $m^2/g$로 농도의 증가와 함께 증가하여 4% 농도에서 401 $m^2/g$로 최댓값을 보여주었고, 5% 농도에서 감소하였다.

정수기용 역삼투 폐분리막 필터의 세정 및 성능 향상 연구 (Cleaning of the Waste Reverse Osmosis Membrane Filters for the Household Water Purifier and Their Performance Enhancement Study)

  • 본 연구에서는 사용 후 폐기되는 정수기용 역삼투(Reverse Osmosis; RO)막 필터를 세정하여 새 필터의 수준으로 복원시키는 연구를 수행하였다. 화학적 세정액으로는 수산화나트륨, 중아황산나트륨, EDTA용액을 사용하였으며 마이크로버블 발생 장치와 함께 in-situ의 방법으로 세정하였다. EDTA를 0.1%의 농도로 제조한 뒤 마이크로버블과 함께 사용하여 30분 세정하였을 때 가장 좋은 결과를 나타내었다. 이때 폐 필터와 세정 후 폐필터의 성능을 비교해 보았을 때 투과도는 19.9%, 회수율은 49.5%증가하였으며 NaCl 100 mg/L 용액에 대한 염제거율은 2.3% 감소되었는데, 이는 새 필터와 동등한 수준으로 회복이 되었다. 또한 전자현미경 분석을 이용하여 막 표면의 오염물의 제거를 육안으로 확인하였다. 이로써 전량 매립 또는 소각 되어지는 정수기용 폐 RO막 필터의 세정을 통하여 재사용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

  • This study investigated the effect of solvent on the fabrication of Ni-free Fe-based alloy nano powders by employing the PWE (pulsed wire evaporation) in liquid and compared the alloy particles fabricated by three different methods (PWE in liquid, PWE in Ar, plasma arc discharge), for high temperature oxidation-resistant metallic porous body for high temperature soot filter system. Three different solvents (ethanol, acetone, distilled water) of liquid were adapted in PWE in liquid process, while X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning microscope (FE-SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to investigate the characteristics of the Fe-Cr-Al nano powders. The alloy powder synthesized by PWE in ethanol has good particle size and no surface oxidation compared to that of distilled water. Since the Fe-based alloy powders, which were fabricated by PWE in Ar and PAD process, showed surface oxidation by TEM analysis, the PWE in ethanol is the best way to fabricate Fe-based alloy nano powder.
