  • Carbon blacks could be used as the filler for the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. The poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) were used as the matrix for the carbon black fillers. Porous carbon blacks were prepared by $CO_2$ activation. The activation was performed by treating the carbon blacks in $CO_2$ to different degrees of burnoff. During the activation, the enlargement of pore diameters, and development of microporous and mesoporous structures were introduced in the carbon blacks, resulting in an increase of extremely large specific surface areas. The porosity of carbon blacks was an increasing function of the degree of burn-off. The surface area increased from $80\;m^2/g$ to $1142\;m^2/g$ and the total pore volume increased from $0.14073\;cc{\cdot}g^{-1}$ to $0.9343\;cc{\cdot}g^{-1}$. Also, the C=O functional group characterized by aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and esters was enhanced during the activation process. The EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of raw N330 carbon blacks filled with PVA was about 1 dB and those of the activated carbon blacks increased to the values between 6 and 9 dB. The EMI SE of raw N330 carbon blacks filled with PVDF was about 7 dB and the EMI SE increased to the range from 11 to 15 dB by the activation.

  • In this paper, in order to consider SAR(Specific Absorption Rate) problem at the beginning stage of a handset development, we investigated the Shh value change by using simulation method according to various EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) paint patterns on front case of a handset and folding angles. First, we made some experiments with EMI paint pattern on front case of a handset, and obtained results showed that different patterns of EMI paint had different SAR values. Among the simulation results on SAR value according to EMI paint patterns, the hairpin pattern showed the best performance, i.e. the decrease efficiency of $8.04\%$ and completely removed pattern showed the decrease efficiency of $5.94\%$. Orignal pattern was set as the reference and the folding angle was $150^{\circ}$. Second, simulation was carried out with changing folding angle from $150^{\circ}$ to $140^{\circ}$ and $160^{\circ}$. Simulation results for the modeled handset showed that SAR value was decreased with increasing the folding angle. When the folding angle was $160^{\circ}$ and with original pattern, we got the SAR value of about 1,61 W/kg. When we applied hairpin pattern with the folding angle of $160^{\circ}$, we got the lowest SAR value of about 1.45 W/kg.

  • Recently as a progress of electric technology, modern electric systems become more and more complicated. Thus, it is difficult to use a classical method to analyze responses of the systems in complicated electromagnetic environments because there are so many coupling phenomena. The electromagnetic topology (EMT) is a helpful solution to analyze electromagnetic interference / electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC) of the large complex system. In this paper, EMT is applied to analyze an active element. And then to prove the validity of this analysis, a detector circuit including Schottky barrier diode is analyzed by EMT when input power is given directly.

  • The error performance of digital radio signals (i.e., M-ary PSK signal, DQPSK signal, MSK signal, GMSK signal) interfered by impulsive noise and electromagnetic interference (EMI) is analyzed and discussed. In analysis at first, the error rate equations have been derived in an electromagnetic interference plus impulsive noise environment. And then, the error performance has been evaluated and shown in figures as a function of carrier-to-noise ratio, carrier-to-interference ratio, impu- lsive index, gaussian noise to impulsive noise power ratio, and interference index to measure the amount of error degradation in digital radio signals. From the obtained results we have known that in the presence of m-distributed tone interference plus inpulsive noise, the more significant the electromagnetic interference amplitude varies, the more significant performance degradation is produced. The listing the digital radio signals from the most degraded to the least is that DQPSK, GMSK, QPSK and MSK signal. In the constant amplitude tone interference plus impulsive noise environment, the effect of in- terference nearly disappears over about 20dB in CIR. The effect of constant tone interference on error rate performance is reduced more remarkably in the region from 10dB to 15dB in CIR. In both enviroments of m-distributed tone interference and constant amplitude tone interference, the more electromagnetic interference amplitude varies and CIR increases, the more error perfor- mance is improved. But it is found out that the performance can not be improved significantly even the electromagnetic interference becomes weak. This describes that the impulsive noise affects dominantly to the performance degradation.

  • Electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding effectiveness(SE) was investigated in of woven fabric made of epoxy/copper-nickel fabrics and nickel coated carbon fiber reinforced acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS) composites. The coaxial transmission line method was used to measure the EMI shielding effectiveness of the composites. We designed and constructed a measuring system, consisting of a network analyzer and a device that plays the serves as a sample holder and at the same time as a transmission medium of the incident electromagnetic wave. The measurement of SE were carried out frequency range from 100MHz to 2GHz. It is observed that the SE of the composits is the frequency dependent increase with the increase in nickel coated carbon fibre volume fraction. The nickel coating with 20wt% ABS composite was shown to exhibit up to 60dB of SE. The result that nickel coated carbon fibre ABS composite can be used for the purpose of EMI shielding as well as for some microwave applications.

  • Recently, EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) becomes very important, which demands the measurement of EMI (electromagnetic interference) in the chip level. NFS (near-field scanning) systems defined in IEC 61967 and IEC 62508 are typical methods to analyze EMI in the chip level. As chips becomes faster, frequency measurement of NFS system should become wideband, but it degrades SNR (singal-to-noise ratio) of the NFP (near-field probe). This paper surveys SNR enhancement technologies of the NFS while maintaining wideband characteristics.

  • Recently, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials have been extensively developed and significantly considered to protect electronic systems from harmful electromagnetic waves. Although, metal-based materials show high electrical conductivity and EMI shielding effectiveness, they have several challenging problems such as high density and corrosion. Carbon-based materials have been acclaimed as alternative EMI materials due to light weight, high mechanical properties, resistance to corrosion and excellent electrical conductivity. Here, we introduce 1-phase and 2-phase carbon materials as well as 3-phase hybrid carbon materials. The 3-phase hybrid carbon materials composed of metal nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes and graphene can be used as a promising EMI shielding material.

  • Today, We have used many electronic equipment such as computer, TV, cellular phone and so on. These equipment radiate a large amount of EMI(Electromagnetic interference) which is occurred trouble of airplane, medical equipment, communicate equipment, and especially, human health. So, Ni mesh fabrication for EMI shielding by continuous electroforming process was investigated. Continuous electroforming apparatus was made by means of rotating cathode drum. And We investigated the characteristics of two types of Ni electroforming solution. One was made by laboratory and the other was produced by M cooperation. The grain size increased with increasing current density and bath temperature, and decreasing rotating speed of cathode drum. EDX results indicate that the Ni mesh electroformed by the KIMM solution is composed of pure Ni. But the Ni mesh electroformed by the M cooperation solution has Ni and S element. The incorporation of S element in the Ni mesh has a profoundly effect on mechanical properties such as hardness, internal stress and so on.

  • In this work, the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI-SE) of carbon nanotube/carbon fiber-reinforced HDPE matrix composites are investigated with various preparation conditions, such as the carbon fiber and carbon nanotube content, the presence of metal additives, as well as mixing speed and time. It was found that the EMI-SE of the composites increased with filler contents and metal additives. These results indicate that the content and length of carbonaceous fillers determine the electric networks in the composites, resulting in the control of the EMI-SE of the composites.
