The blanket plays an important role in fusion reactor and stands extremely high thermal and electromagnetic loads during operation situation and plasma disruption event, brings the need for precise thermal and electromagnetic analysis. Since the thermal field and EM field interact with each other nonlinearly, we develop a method of electromagnetic-thermal two-way coupling by using finite element software COMSOL. The coupling analyses of blanket under steady state and MD event are implemented and the results are analyzed. For steady state, the influences of coupling effects are relatively small but still recommended to be considered for a high precision analysis. The influence of thermal field on EM field can't be ignored under MD events. The variation of force density could cause a significant change in stress in certain parts of blanket. The influence of Joule heat during MD event is negligible, yet the potential temperature rise caused by induced current after MD event still needs to be researched.

One of the principal components of the KSTAR (Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) tokamak structure is the vacuum vessel, which acts as the high vacuum boundary for the plasma and also provides the structural support for internal components. Hyundai Heavy Industries Inc. has performed the engineering design of the vacuum vessel. Here the overall configuration of the KSTAR vacuum vessel was briefly described and then the design methodology and the analysis results were presented. The vacuum vessel consists of double walls, several ports, leaf spring style supports. Double walls are separated by reinforcing ribs and filled with baking/shielding water. The overall external dimensions of the main body are 3.39 m high, 1.11 m inner radius, 2.99 m outer radius, and made of SA240-316LN. The vacuum vessel was designed to be capable of achieving the base pressure of $1\times10^{-8}$ Torr, and also to be structurally capable of sustaining the vacuum pressure, the electromagnetic and thermal loads during plasma disruption and bakeout, respectively. The vacuum vessel will be baked out maximum $150^{\circ}C$ by hot pressurized water through the channels formed between double walls and the reinforcing ribs. A 3-D temperature distribution and the resulting thermal loads in the vessel were calculated during bakeout. It was found that the vacuum vessel and its supports were structurally rigid based on the thermal stress analysis. The maximum electromagnetic loads on the vacuum vessel induced by eddy and halo currents resulting from the engineering plasma radial and vertical disruption scenarios have been estimated. The stress analyses have been performed based on these electromagnetic loads and the resulting stresses at he critical locations of the vacuum vessel were within the allowable stresses.

This study was peformed to determine optimum induction heating conditions for a round bar of crankshaft. Four induction heating conditions were proposed and evaluated, employing numerical method, based on electromagnetic and sequential heat transfer analyses, resulting in optimum induction heating conditions which are finally proposed based on peak temperatures at heating zone and minimum temperature gradient through thickness of a round bar after 1 hour induction heating.
A squirrel cage canned induction motor for the main coolant pump of the integral reactor, SMART was designed, manufactured and tested. The motor was first designed using the equivalent circuit theory to determine major dimensions and then finalized through finite element analyses for electromagnetic and thermal characteristics. In order to verify the design methodology, a reduced scale canned induction motor was manufactured and tested. The experimental results have shown a good agreement with the analysis results.
This paper proposes a sampling-based sensitivity method for dealing with electromagnetic coupled design problems effectively. The black-box modeling technique is basically applied to obtain an optimum regardless of how strong the electromagnetic, thermal and structural analyses are coupled with each other. To achieve this, Kriging surrogate models are produced in a hyper-cubic local window with the center of a current design point. Then design sensitivity values are extracted from the differentiation of basis functions which consist of the models. The proposed method falls under a hybrid optimization method which takes advantages of the sampling-based and the sensitivity-based methods. Owing to the aforementioned feature, the method can be applied even to electromagnetic problems of which the material properties are strongly coupled with thermal or structural outputs. To examine the accuracy and validity of the proposed method, a strongly nonlinear mathematical example and a coil design problem for local induction heating are tested.

In this paper, the design and nonlinear simulation of a multistable electromagnetic microactuator, which provides four stable equilibrium positions within its operating range, have been discussed. Quadstable actuator motion has been made possible by using both X- and Y-directional bistable structures with snapping curved beams. Two pairs of the curved beams are attached to an inner frame in both X- and Y-directions to realize independent bistable behavior in each direction. For the actuation of the actuator at the micrometer scale, an electromagnetic actuation method in which Lorentz force is taken into consideration was used. By using this method, micrometer-stroke quadstability in a plane parallel to a substrate was possible. The feasibility of designing an actuator that can realize quadstable motion by using the electromagnetic actuation method has been thoroughly clarified by performing nonlinear static and dynamic analyses and electrothermal coupled-field analysis of the multistable microactuator.

This work investigated three-dimensional (3D) focused microwave thermotherapy (FMT) at 925 MHz for a human tissue mimicking phantom using the time reversal (TR) principle for musculoskeletal disorders. We verified the proposed TR algorithm by evaluating the possibility of 3D beam focusing through simulations and experiments. The simulation, along with the electromagnetic and thermal analyses of the human tissue mimicking phantom model, was conducted by employing the Sim4Life commercial tool. Experimental validation was conducted on the developed FMT system using a fabricated human tissue mimicking phantom. A truncated threshold method was proposed to reduce the unwanted hot spots in a normal tissue region, wherein a beam was appropriately focused on a target position. The validation results of the simulation and experiments obtained by utilizing the proposed TR algorithm were shown to be acceptable. Effective beam focusing at the desired position of the phantom could be achieved.

Magnetic anomaly generated around a ship is mainly due to the permanent magnetization(PM) and induced magnetization (IM) remaining on the hull. It is very difficult to predict the direction and its magnitude of the permanent magnetization distributed over the hull, that is caused by mechanical or thermal stress. In this paper, an effective method is proposed to separate two components, the one produced by PM and the other by IM, from the underwater earth field signal distorted by the ferromagnetic material of the ship. The method can easily provide the two kinds of magnetic anomaly through exploiting experimental results and 3D electromagnetic field analyses even though the PM distribution on the hull is not known. To validate the proposed method, a model ship is manufactured and tested. The results would be of much help to basis research for securing safe navigation of a ship against dangerous factors in underwater.
In this study, the porothermoelastic problem with the effect of the magnetic field and initial stress was investigated. We applied normal mode analysis to solve the resulting non-dimensional coupled equations. Numerical results for the displacements, temperature distribution, pore pressure, stresses, induced electric field and induced magnetic field distributions are presented graphically and discussed. The medium deformed because of thermal shock and due to the application of the magnetic field, there result an induced magnetic and an induced electric field in the medium. Numerical analyses are given graphically on the square (2D) and cubic (3D) domains to illustrate the effects of the porosity parameter, magnetic field and initial stress parameter on the physical variables.
As a technique for removing cancerous tumors from normal tissue, radio-frequency electromagnetic waves were employed to heating target cells up to the critical temperature, which kills the cancerous cells. However, its use in treating tumors in soft organs is limited by inconvenient factors, which are use of high-currents and long time operation. In this work, the feasibility of the localized heating by inserting four conducting electrodes with tiny direct current is investigated. The heat source is resulting from the electric field as known as resistive heating. We have investigated the temperature distribution as a function of applying DC voltages ranging from 10 V to 30 V with 10 V step. From the simulation results, the mushroom-like lesion shape by applying 20 V is generated by four electrodes within a few minutes, that is proper to the clinical application.
