Anodic overpotential has been investigated with gas composition changes in a $100cm^2$ class molten carbonate fuel cell. The overpotential was measured with steady state polarization, reactant gas addition (RA), inert gas step addition (ISA), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods at different anodic inlet gas compositions, i.e., $H_2:CO_2:H_2O=0.69:0.17:0.14\;atm\;and\;H_2:CO_2:H_2O=0.33:0.33:0.33\;atm$, at a fixed $H_2$ flow rate. The results demonstrate that the anodic overpotential decreases with increasing $CO_2\;and\;H_2O$ flow rates, indicating the anode reaction is a gas-phase mass-transfer control process of the reactant species, $H_2,\;CO_2,\;and\;H_2O$. It was also found that the mass-transfer resistance due to the $H_2$ species slightly increases at higher $CO_2\;and\;H_2O$ flow rates. EIS showed reduction of the lower frequency semi-circle with increasing $H_2O\;and\;CO_2$ flow rate without affecting the high frequency semi-circle.

Developing oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is essential to accomplish viable CO2 and water electrolysis. Herein, we report the fabrication and OER performance of Ni-foam (NF)-immobilized Ni6 nanoclusters (NCs) (Ni6/NF) prepared by a dip-coating process. The Ni6/NF electrode exhibited a high current density of 500 mA/cm2 for the OER at an overpotential as low as 0.39 V. Ni6/NF exhibited high durability in an alkaline solution without corrosion. Electrokinetic studies revealed that OER can be easily initiated on Ni6 NC with fast electron-transfer rates. Finally, we demonstrated stable CO2-to-CO electroreduction using an NC-based zero-gap CO2 electrolyzer operated at a current density of 100 mA/cm2 and a full-cell potential of 2.0 V for 12 h.

Electrospun $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers were produced for the air electrode in Zn-air rechargeable batteries using electrospinning technique with sequential calcination. The final calcination temperature was varied from 500 to $800^{\circ}C$ in order to determine its effect on the physical and electrochemical properties of the prepared $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers. The surface area of the electrospun $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers were observed to decrease with increasing final calcination temperature. Electrospun $LaCoO_3$ perovskite nanofibers calcined with final calcination temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ had the best electrocatalytic activity among the prepared perovskite nanofibers.

We synthesized a series of binuclear pentadentate Schiff base complexes such as $Co(Ⅱ)_2$ (BSPP)($H_2O)_2$, $Co(Ⅱ)_2$ (BSPD)($H_2O)_2$, $Mn(Ⅱ)_2$ (BSPP)($H_2O)_2$ and $Mn(Ⅱ)_2$ (BSPD)($H_2O)_2$, mononuclear pentadentate Schiff base complexes such as Co(Ⅱ)(BSP)($H_2O)$ and Mn(Ⅱ)(BSP)($H_2O)$. The composition of these complexes identified by IR, UV-visible spectrum, T.G.A., DSC, and elemental analysis. The electrochemical redox processes have been examined by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse polarography with glassy carbon electrode in 0.1M TEAP-Py(-DMSO and -DMF) as a supporting electrolyte solution. As a result of electrochemical measurements, the reduction processes for pentadentate binuclear Schiff base cobalt(Ⅱ) and manganese(Ⅱ) complexes occurred to four steps in $M(Ⅲ)_2$ / $Mn(Ⅱ)_2$ and $Mn(Ⅱ)_2$ / $M(Ⅰ)_2$ (M; Co, Mn) two processes through each two reduction steps with one electron, by contrast, the mononuclear pentadentate Schiff base cobalt(Ⅱ) and manganese(Ⅱ) complexes occurred to two steps in M(Ⅲ) / M(Ⅱ) and M(Ⅱ) / M(Ⅰ) (M; Co, Mn) two processes with one electron reduction steps.

To obtain the relation in the electrochemical reduction of $CO_2$ in aqueous $KHCO_3$ colution between an activity for the product and the nature of Cu electrode, the electrode surface was characterized by using two methods: X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and photoelectron emission (PE) measurement. Electrolyses were performed with Cu electrodes pretreated in several ways. The distribution of the products changed drastically with electrolysis time and the pretreatment method. The features in XPS spectra were closely connected with the product distribution. The oxide film at the electrode surface was gradually reduced to bare Cu metal with electrolysis time, resulting in a variation of the product distribution. PE was measured by verying the wavelength of incident light at several temperatures. The dependence of PE on the measurement temperature changed greatly before and after electrolysis.
Ru black was used for cathode catalyst in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell which showed low performance at the initial test. However, it was observed that the performance of Ru black cathode was dramatically enhanced after certain kind of experiment compared with initial one. It might be due to an electrochemical treatment in which a voltage was applied to the Ru cathode for constant period time. When a constant potential of 0.1 V was applied to Ru cathode for 30 min, the fuel cell performance of Ru cathode showed the best results. In order to investigate the effect of electrochemical treatment on the performance enhancement, the characteristics of electrochemically treated Ru black was compared with that of Ru black which was reduced under $H_2$ atmosphere. From XRD results, it was turned out that Ru black was not completely converted to metallic Ru by electrochemical treatment, but it is sufficient to be one of reasons for the performance enhancement. According to the results of CO stripping voltammetry, it was observed that some Ru was removed from Ru electrode by electrochemical treatment which might have a bad effect on the fuel cell performance. The removal of some Ru from as-received Ru black by electrochemical treatment is also another reason for the enhancement of fuel cell performance.

Electrochemical reduction of thionyl chloride has been carried out at glassy carbon and molybdenum electrodes, the surface of which is modified by binuclear tetradentate schiff base Co(II), Ni(II),Cu(II) and Fe(II) complexes. The catalyst molecules of transition metal(II) complexes were adsorbed on the electrode surface and reduced thionyl chloride resulting in a generation of oxidized catalyst molecules. There was an optimum concentration for each catalyst compound. The catalytic effects of SOCl$_2$ reduction were larger on glassy carbon electrodes compared to molybdenum electrodes and enhancements in reduction current of up to 120${\%}$ at the glassy carbon electrodes. The reduction currents of thionyl chloride were increased and the reduction potentials were shifted to the negative potential when scan rates became faster. The reduction of thionyl chloride was proceed to diffusion controlled reaction.
Ni(II) containing coenzyme F430 catalyzes the reduction of $CO_2$ in methanogen. Macrocyclic Ni(II) complexes with N,O shiff bases have been received a great attention since metal ions play an important role in the catalysis of reduction. The reducing power of metal complexes are supposed to be dependent on oxidoreduction state of metal ion and structural properties of macrocyclic ring moiety that can enhance electrochemical properties in catalytic process. Six different ${\alpha}$-oximinoketone compounds, precursor of macrocyclic ligands used in $CO_2$ reduction coenzyme F430 model complexes, were synthesized with yields over 90% and characterized by NMR. The molecular geometries of ${\alpha}$-oximinoketone analogues were fully optimized at Beck's-three-parameter hybrid (B3LYP) method in density functional theory (DFT) method with $6-31+G^*$ basis set using the ab initio program. In order to understand molecular planarity and substitutional effects that may enhance reducing power of metal ion are studied by computing the structure-dependent $^{13}C$-NMR chemical shift and comparing with experimental results.

This study is concerned the electrocatalytic generation of oxygen gas at electrochemically deposited manganese oxide electrode in KOH solution. Manganese oxide nanoparticles electrodeposited onto relatively substrate, e.g glassy carbon, Au, Ti electrode. MnOx is electrodeposited in nanorod structure which cover the overall surface of the substrate. The $\gamma$-MnOOH that is kind of manganese oxide species plays a significant role as a catalytic mediator, which promote 4-electron reduction process. Modified electrodes with electrodeposited manganese oxide structures resulted in significant decrease in the anodic polarization compared with the unmodified electrodes in alkaline media.
The commercialization of rechargeable metal-air batteries is extremely desirable but designing stable oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts with non-noble metal still has faced challenges to replace platinum-based catalysts. The nonnoble metal catalysts for ORR were prepared to improve the catalytic performance and stability by the thermal decomposition of ZIF-8 with optimum cobalt loading. The porous carbon was obtained by the calcination of ZIF-8 and different loading amounts of Co nanoparticles were anchored onto porous carbon forming a Co/PC catalyst. Co/PC composite shows a significant increase in the ORR value of current and stability (500 h) due to the good electronic conductive PCN support and optimum cobalt metal loading. The significantly improved catalytic performance is ascribed to the chemical structure, synergistic effects, porous carbon networks, and rich active sites. This method develops a new pathway for a highly active and advantageous catalyst for electrochemical devices.
