The Signal-to-Noise Ratio Enhancement of the Satellite Electro-Optical Imager using Noise Analysis Methods (영상센서신호의 잡음분석을 이용한 위성용 전자광학탑재체의 신호대잡음비 개선 방법)

  • The Satellite Electro-Optic Payload System needsspecial requirements with the conditions of limited power consumption and the space environment of solar radiation. The acquired image quality should be mainly depend on the GSD (Ground Sampled Distance), SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), and MTF (Modulation Transfer Function). On the well-manufactured sensor level, the thermal noise is removed on ASP (Analog Signal Processing) using the CDS (Corrective Double Sampling); the noise signal from the image sensor can be reduced from the offset signals based on the pre-pixels and the dark-pixels. The non-uniformity shall be corrected with gain, offset, and correction parameter of the image sensor pixel characteristic on the sensor control system. This paper describes the SNR enhancement method of the satellite EOS payload using the mentioned noise remove processes on the system design and operation, which is verified by tests and simulations.

Inorganic Thin film for Horizontal Aligned Liquid Crystal with Non-rubbing Technologies (무기막에서의 수형배향된 액정의 특성에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, we investigated the electro-optical (EO) characteristic of fringe-field switching (FFS) mode cell by the ion beam alignment method on the a-C:H thin film. The suitable inorganic thin films for FFS cell and the aligning capabilities of nematic liquid crystal (NLC) using the new alignment material of a-C:H thin film were studied. An excellent voltage-transmittance (V-T) and response time curve of the ion beam aligned FFS-LCD was observed with oblique ion beam exposure on the a-C:H thin films. Also, the V-T hysteresis characteristics of the ion beam-aligned FFS-LCD with IB exposure on the a-C:H thin films is almost the same as that of the rubbing-aligned FFS cell on a polyimide surface.

  • We have studied $90^{\circ}$ twisted nematic (TN) mode driven by fringe electric field, where two polarizers are parallel each other such that the cell shows a black state before a voltage is applied. According to the studies by computer simulation for a LC with negative dielectric anisotropy, the LC twists perpendicular to the horizontal field direction of fringe electric field and the degree of tilt angle is very low, when a voltage is applied. Therefore, the new device exhibits wide viewing angle characteristic due to in-plane switching and high transmittance since the LC director aligns parallel to the polarizer axis.

  • 본 연구에서는 이전에 제안한 stripe형으로 제작된 경사형 대향유지전극구조의 마진 개선과 오방전 감소를 위하여 폐쇄형으로 제작된 경사형 대향유지전극구조를 제안하였다. 제안된 구조는 상판의 유지전극들을 페쇄형으로 패터닝된 유전체층 사이에 Ag 전극을 경사형으로 형성하여 만든 구조이다. 테스트 패널은 250${\mu}m$ 유지전극 간격들을 가지는 제안된 구조와 기존의 유지전극 간격 60${\mu}m$의 ITO 구조를 reference로 하여 제작하였다. 폐쇄형 구조를 reference를 기준으로 이전의 stripe형과 비교했을때 전류가 50${\sim}$64% 증가하여 효율이 18% 감소하였지만 마진이 25V 증가하였고 휘도가 최대 44% 증가하였다. 패쇄형 구조가 stripe형 구조에 비해 효율이 감소하였지만 기존의 면방전형 구조에 비해 최대 146%의 효율 증가를 보였으며 동일전압에서 stripe 구조에 비해 높은 휘도와 넓어진 마진을 가졌다.

  • Spatial homogenity of Mg (4 mole %):LiNb$O_3$ is investigated by studying the characteristic of Second Harmonic Generation in Mg:LiNb$O_3$ as a function of temperature and DC Electric Field. It is found that the temperaturs at which the intensity of the second harmonic is reduced to the first zero from its maximum for the phase matching condition is shifted linearly to the strength of DC Electric field applied to optic axis of Mg:LiNb$O_3$. From these results, the electro-optic coefficient of Mg:LiNb$O_3$ is estimated to be higher than that of Congruent LiNb$O_3$ by a factor of 1.5.

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) used a transparent electrode of a photoelectric device has a low sheet resistance and a high transmittance. However, ITO is disadvantageous in that the process cost is expensive, and the process time is long. Silver nanowires (AgNWs) transparent electrodes are based on a low cost solution process. In addition, it has attracted attention as a next-generation transparent electrode material that replaces ITO because it has similar electrical and optical characteristic to ITO, it is noted as a. AgNW thin films are mainly produced by spin-coating. However, the spin-coating process has a disadvantage of high material loss. In this study, the material loss was reduced by using about 2~10 ㎕ of AgNW solution on a (25 × 25) ㎟ substrate using the shear-coating method. It was also possible to align AgNWs in the drag direction by dragging the meniscus of the solution. The electro-optical properties of the AgNW thin film were adjusted by changing the experimental parameters that the amount of AgNWs suspension, the gap between the substrate and the blade, and the coating speed. As a result, AgNW thin films with a transmittance of 90.7 % at a wavelength of 550 nm and a sheet resistance of 15 Ω/□ was deposited and exhibited similar properties to similar AgNW transparent electrodes studied by other researchers.

A Study on Electro-optical Characteristics of the UV Aligned FFS Cell on the Organic Layer

  • In this study, we investigated the electro-optical (EO) characteristic of fringe-field switching (FFS) mode cell by the two kinds of ultraviolet (UV) alignment method on the organic thin film (polyimide: PI). The suitable organic layers for FFS cell and the aligning capabilities of nematic liquid crystal (NLC) using the in-situ photoalignment method were studied; Disclination is observed after conventional photoalignment method for 1h, and in-situ photoalignment method for 1h. Monodomain alignment of the NLC can be observed via insitu photo alignment method for 2 h and 3 h. It is considered that NLC alignment is due to photo-depolymerization of the polymer with oblique non-polarized UV irradiation on PI surface. An unstable V-T curve of UV-aligned FFS-LCD with conventional photoalignment method can be achieved. However, a stable V-T curve of UV-aligned FFS-LCD with in-situ photoalignment method (1 h), and V-T curve of UV-aligned FFS-LCD with in-situ photo alignment method was much stable comparing with that of other UV-aligned FFSLCD's. As a result, more stable EO performance of UV-aligned FFS-LCD with in-situ photoalignment method for 3h is obtained than that of the other UV-aligned FFS-LCD's.

AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE FATIGUE FRACTURE OF LAMINATE PORCELAIN (치과용 라미네이트 도재의 피로파괴에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fracture characteristics and the effect of resin bonding of laminate porcelain. In order to characterize the indentation-induced crack, Young's moduli and characteristic indentation dimensions were measured. The fatigue life under three point flexure test was measured using the electro-dynamic type fatigue machine, and the crack propagation with thermocycling was investigated on the condition of 15 second dwell time each in $5^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}C$ bath. The Vickers indentation pattern and the fracture surface were examined by an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results obtained were summarized as follows ; 1. Young's moduli(E) of the laminate porcelain and the resin cement used in this experiment were $62.56{\pm}3.79GPa$ and $15.01{\pm}0.12GPa$, respectively. 2. The initial crack size of the laminate porcelain was $69.19{\pm}5.94{\mu}m$ when an indentation load of 9.8N was applied, and the fracture toughness was $1.065{\pm}0.156MPa\;m^{1/2}$. 3. The fatigue life of laminate porcelain showed the constant fracture range at the stress level 27.46-35.30MPa. 4. When a cyclic flexure load was applied, the fatigue life of resin-bonded laminate porcelain was more decreased than that of laminate porcelain. 5. When a thermocycling was conducted, the crack growth rate of resin-bonded laminate porcelain was more increased than that of laminate porcelain. 6. Fracture surface showed the radial crack, the lateral crack, and the macroscopic crack branching region beneath the plastic deformation region when an indentation load of 9.8N was applied.

  • Recently, it is widely studied to liquid crystal (LC) alignment using ion-beam exposure. Because conventional rubbing method has some problems such as defects from dust and electrostatic charges and rubbing scratch during rubbing process. Moreover rubbing method needs cleaning process to remove these defects. Therefore rubbing-free techniques like ion-beam method are strongly required. We studied LC alignment by controlling ion-beam irradiation angles and electro-optical (EO) characteristics of twisted nematic LC on the polyimide surface. In this experiment, a good uniform alignment of the nematic liquid crystal (NLC) with the ion-beam exposure on the polyimide (PI) surface was observed. We also achieved low pretilt angle as function of ion-beam irradiation angles. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS) analysis provided chemical evidence for LC alignment by controlling ion-beam irradiation angles. In addition, it can be achieved the good EO properties of the ion-beam-aligned twisted nematic liquid crystal display (TN-LCD) on PI surface. Some other experiments results and discussion will be included in the presentation.
