Fibrous chitosan membranes were fabricated as a substrate for skin applications using an electro-spinning process with different solvents and varying concentrations. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images confirmed that the formation of the chitosan fibrous membrane in trifluoroacetic acid was better than that in acetic acid. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that the chitosan fibers were cross-linked with glutaraldehyde, and that the cytotoxicity of the aldehyde groups was reduced by glycine and washing by NaOH and DI water. Chitosan cross-linked fibrous membranes were insoluble in water and could be washed thoroughly to wash away glycine and excess NaOH and prevent the infiltration of other water soluble bio-toxic agents using DI water. MTT assay method was employed to test the cytotoxicity of chitosan membranes during fabricating, treating and washing processes. After the dehydration of cell cultured chitosan membranes, cell attachment behavior on the material was evaluated using SEM method. Effect of the treatment processes on the biocompatibility of the chitosan membranes was shown by comparing of filopodium and lamellipodium of fibroblast cells on grown washed and unwashed chitosan fibrous membrane. The MTT assay and SEM morphology confirmed that the washed chitosan fibrous membrane increased cell attachment and cell growth, and decreased toxicity compared to results for the unwashed chitosan fibrous membrane.
The experiments related on structure and water electrolysis performance of HALE UAV stack were conducted in this study. Anode catalyst $IrRuO_2$ was prepared by Adam's fusion methods as 2~3 nm nano sized particles, and the cathode catalyst was used as commercial product of Premetek. The MEA (membrane electrode assembly) was manufactured by decal methods, anode and anode catalytic layers were prepared by electro-spray. HALE stack was composed of 5 multi-cells as $0.2Nm^3/hr$ hydrogen production rate with hydrogen pressure as 10 bar. The water electrolysis performance was investigated at atmospheric pressure and temperature of $55^{\circ}C$. Best performance of HALE UAV stack was recorded as cell voltage efficiency as 86%.

Differences in the frequency characteristic applied to a ripple current may shorten fuel cell life span and worsen the fuel efficiency. Therefore, this paper presents an experimental analysis of the ripple current applied variable frequency characteristic in a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). This paper provides the first attempt to examine the impact of ripple current through immediate measurements on a single cell test. After cycling for hours at three frequencies, each polarization and impedance curve is obtained and compared with those of a fuel cell. Through experimental results, it can be absolutely concluded that low frequency ripple current leads to long-term degradation of a fuel cell. Three different PEMFC failures such as membrane dehydration, flooding and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning that lead to an increase in the impedance magnitude at low frequencies are simply introduced.
Mother liquid discharged from a salt-manufacturing plant was electrodialyzed at 25 and $40^{\circ}C$ in a continuous process integrated with $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ion low-permeable anion-exchange membranes to remove $Na_2SO_4$ and recover NaCl in the mother liquid. Performance of electrodialysis was evaluated by measuring ion concentration in a concentrated solution, permselectivity coefficient of $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ions against $Cl^-$ ions, current efficiency, cell voltage, energy consumption to obtain one ton of NaCl and membrane pair characteristics. The permselectivity coefficient of $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ions against $Cl^-$ ions was low enough particularly at $40^{\circ}C$ and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ transport across anion-exchange membranes was prevented successfully. Applying the overall mass transport equation, $Cl^-$ ion and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ion transport across anion-exchange membranes is evaluated. $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ion transport number is decreased due to the decrease of electro-migration of $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ions across the anion-exchange membranes. $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ion concentration in desalting cells becomes higher than that in concentration cells and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ion diffusion is accelerated across the anion-exchange membranes from desalting cells toward concentrating cells.
This paper presents optimized design, fabrication and thermal characteristics of micro-heaters for thermal MEMS (micro electro mechanical system) applications using SOI and trench structures. The micro-heaters are based on a thermal measurement principle and contains thermal isolation regions of 10 ${\mu}m$-thick Si membranes consisting of oxide-filled trenches in the SOI membrane rim. The micro-heaters were fabricated with Pt-RTD on the same substrate via MgO buff layer between Pt thin-film and $SiO_2$ layer. The thermal characteristics of micro-heater with trench-free SOI membrane structure was $280^{\circ}C$ at input power 0.9 W; in the presence of 10 trenches, it was $580^{\circ}C$ due to reduction of the external thermal loss. Therefore, a micro-heater with trenches in SOI membrane rim structure provides a powerful and versatile alternative technology for enhancing the performance of micro-thermal sensors and actuators.
Micro fuel cells have high reliability and long usage time. Among them, PEMFC (polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell) is suitable as a portable power source because it is easy to fix electrolyte and simple structure. The bipolar plate, a key component of the fuel cell, is produced by cutting. In the case of micro fuel cell separator, burr is very small and the flow channel size in the separator is very small. Therefore, it is difficult to remove burrs in the usual way such as a brushing or ultra-sonic method. Therefore, this study proposed electrolytic polishing process and analyzed the characteristics of each condition by introducing the concept of roughness reduction rate. In addition, the ultrasonic process was added to analyze the effect of ultrasonic addition.
In this study, the nano-composite actuator based on Fullerene and Nafion was newly developed to improve the electro active polymer actuators. The tensile test was employed to define the mechanical stiffness and strength of the nano-composite membrane. Also, the bending displacement of the Fullerene-Nafion based nano-composite actuator was investigated under DC and AC excitations with various magnitudes and frequencies. As a result, the new nano-composite actuator based on Fullerene-Nafion shows much larger deformation than the pure Nafion based actuator and solves the straightening back Problem of the previous electro active polymer actuators.
Organic EL has been expected to adopt to a new styles of technology that make flat display after Tang & Vanslyke made food electric luminescence device in late 1980s. Their studies based on multi layer structure that consists of emitting layer and carrier transporting layer using proper organic material. In this study we made multi layer device using $Eu(TTA)_3(phen)$ as a luminescence material by PVD and investigate luminous properties of each device. But oxidization of organic layer by ITO, energy walls in both pole interface, contaminations of ITO surface, importance of protecting membrane, diffusive dimming of light to cathode organic layer, these causes of degradations are common facts of a macromolecule and micromolecule. We think these degradation caused by the impact of heat and electro-chemical factor, bulk effect and interface phenomenon, and raise a question.

In this study, the poor electro-transformant yield of large DNA in bifidobacteria was improved by increasing the DNA concentration, which was amplified by enhancing electroporation conditions: treating the cell wall weakening agent and cell membrane permeabilizing molecule as well as changing the electrical parameter. In the enhanced conditions, the electroporation frequency increased from 15 to 71 times compared to the initial conditions at the same DNA concentration. As the DNA concentration increased, the difference in the electroporation frequency between the two conditions became greater, and the curve of the enhanced conditions seemed to be saturated with a DNA concentration over $4{\mu}g$. The present study provided a clue to the recovery of the electroporation frequency with large DNA and formulated the relationship between the DNA concentration, the DNA size and the electroporation frequency in bifidobacteria. Therefore, this study will contribute to the expansion of molecular genetic studies of bifidobacteria.
