  • Worldwide, the building energy simulation becomes inevitable step for predicting the energy consumption in building. In simulation process, the expertise is required for the accurate analysis results. In Korea, however, most of user use the inconsistent data with Korea circumstance. In this step, we need to construct the standard input data matched building in Korea. In this study, electricity consumption of apartments in Daejeon is analyzed. The yearly data of a apartment complexes of 2009 are analyzed as monthly, daily(week and weekend), timely, and completion year. With this result, we are able to predict the demand pattern of electricity in a house and make the schedule by demand pattern. The results of this study are followed. The averaged amount of electricity consumption in winter is higher than summer because of the high capacity of heating equipment. All of the house has electric base load from 0.26kWh to 0.5kWh. The average of the electricity consumption of month is shown as 326.7kWh. A week is seperated as 4 part such as week, weekend, Saturday and Sunday. During week, the average of timely electricity consumption is shown as 0.442kWh. The Saturday consumption is 0.453kWh. The Sunday is 0.461kWh.

  • Cournot model is one of representative models among many game theoretic approaches available for analyzing competitive market models. Recent years have witnessed various kinds of attempts to model competitive electricity markets using the Cournot model. Cournot model is appropriate for oligopoly market which is one characteristic of electric power industry requiring huge amount of capital investment. When we use Cournot model for the application to electricity market, it is prerequisite to assume the downward sloping demand curve in the right direction. Generators in oligopoly market could try to maximize their profit by exercising the market power like physical or economic withholding. However advanced electricity markets also have demand side bidding which makes it possible for the demand to respond to the high market price by reducing their consumption. Considering this kind of demand reaction, Generators couldn't abuse their market power. Instead, they try to find out an equilibrium point which is optimal for both sides, generators and demand. This paper suggest a quantitative analysis between market variables based on econometrics for estimating demand responses in smart grid environment.

  • Electricity sales are directly measured from individual consumers, which could minimize the time gap between data collection and public announcement. Furthermore, industrial electricity sales are highly linked with production and output. Therefore, industrial electricity consumption can be used to track production and output in real time. By using the high-frequency data of industrial electricity sales, this study develops the daily electricity business index (DEBI) to capture the daily economic status. The steps used to formulate DEBI are as follows: (1)selection of the explanatory variables and period, (2) amendment of the seasonal adjustment to eliminate daily temperature and effective day effects, (3) estimation of the weighted value via variables by using PCA, (4) calculation of DEBI and commencement of validation tests. Our empirical analysis and the Hodrick-Prescott filter analysis show that DEBI is highly related to existing economic indices.

  • Recently, electricity demand of remote islands in Korea has been rapidly increased. It's mainly due to increase of income level resulted from economic development. Electricity demand patterns and characteristics in remote islands are different from those of mainland in point of time of peak load, demographic and industrial characteristics of islands, and so on. The optimal power supply in remote islands has a important relationship with accurate analysis of island's load characteristics, the adoption of relevant load forecasting technique, and optimal power facilities reflecting local's electricity demand characteristics. This paper shows the recent load pattern and characteristics, load forecasting using probability distribution, and the perpetration of relevant power facilities in remote islands.

  • At present Cournot model is one of the most commonly used theories to analyze the gaming situation in oligopoly market. But there exist several problems to apply this model to electricity market. The representative one is to obtain the inverse demand curve able to be induced from the relationship between market price and demand response. In Cournot model, each player offers their generation quantity to accomplish maximum profit, which is accomplished by reducing their quantity compared with available total capacity. As stated above, to obtain the probable Cournot equilibrium to reflect real market situation, we have to induce the correct demand function first of all. Usually the correlation between price and demand appears on the long-term basis through the statistical data analysis (for example, regression analysis) or by investigating consumer utility functions of several consumer groups classified as residential, industrial, and commercial. However, the elasticity has a tendency to change continuously according to the total market demand size or the level of market price. Therefore it should be updated as trading period passes by. In this paper we propose a method for inducing and updating this price elasticity of demand function for more realistic market equilibrium.

  • Interstate electric power system, as an alternative for energy cooperation under regional economic bloc, has been hotly debated before progressing the restructure in electric power industry and rapidly expanded in many regions after 1990s. Especially, since northeast asia has strong supplementation in resource, load shape, fuel mix etc., electric power system interconnection in this region may bring considerable economic benefits. Moreover, since Korean electric power system has a great difficulty in a geographical condition to interrupt electricity transaction with other countries, it has been expanded as an independent system to supply all demand domestically. As a result, Korean electric power system makes considerable payment for maintaining system security and reliability and expands costly facilities to supply a temporary summer peak demand. Under this inefficiency, if there are electricity transactions with Russia via the North Korea route then economic electric power system operation may be achieved using seasonal and hourly differences in electricity price and/or load pattern among these countries. In this paper, we estimate price cap of transacted electricity via interstate electric power system in northeast asia. For this study, we perform quantitative economic analysis on various system interconnection scenarios.

  • After the oil crisis in 1970s, many countries have tried to reduce oil dependency. Especially, in Korea, rapid declining oil consumption has speedily brought to electrification and a surge in electricity demand. This paper attempts to estimate the relationship between declining oil use and electrification in Korea using OECD panel data covering from 1985 to 2011. To this end, random effect model and fixed effect model are employed. The increase in the ratio of energy oil to total energy consumption by 10%p leads to reduce the electricity demand by about 15%. This result can be useful information to cope with the recent crisis of electric power. In addition, industrial sector is ranked in forth the ratio of industrial electricity use to total electricity use according to the result of comparative analysis of electricity consumption by use in OECD countries. Therefore, industrial sector should be treated as the main target of demand-side management policies for electricity.

  • In this paper, an advanced demand clustering algorithm which can explore the planned maintenance outage of generators in changed electricity industry is proposed. The major contribution of this paper can be captured in the development of the long-term estimates for the generation availability considering planned maintenance outage. Two conflicting viewpoints, one of which is reliability-focused and the other is economy-focused, are incorporated in the development of estimates of maintenance outage based on the advanced demand clustering algorithm. Based on the advanced clustering algorithm, in each demand cluster, conventional effective outage of generators which conceptually capture maintenance and forced outage of generators, are newly defined in order to properly address the characteristic of the planned maintenance outage in changed electricity markets. First, initial market demand is classified into multiple demand clusters, which are defined by the effective outage rates of generators and by the inherent characteristic of the initial demand. Then, based on the advanced demand clustering algorithm, the planned maintenance outages and corresponding effective outages of generators are reevaluated. Finally, the conventional demand clusters are newly classified in order to reflect the improved effective outages of generation markets. We have found that the revision of the demand clusters can change the number of the initial demand clusters, which cannot be captured in the conventional demand clustering process. Therefore, it can be seen that electricity market situations, which can also be classified into several groups which show similar patterns, can be more accurately clustered. From this the fundamental characteristics of power systems can be more efficiently analyzed, for this advanced classification can be widely applicable to other technical problems in power systems such as generation scheduling, power flow analysis, price forecasts, and so on.

  • Demand Side Management (DSM) activities have been designed to encourage customers to modify their patterns of electricity consumption including the timing and level of electricity demand. The role of DSM has been more and more important in the point of social energy utilization on the limited resources. The objectives of DSM are generally related to load reductions and generation cost savings. This paper presents an approach to B/C analysis to evaluate the impact of DSM programs especially on the strategic conservation and the load management programs. The proposed approach embedding the existing B/C analyses is applicable to the new electricity market. Case studies show the B/C ratio and the avoided cost due to the impact of DSM programs.
