DC Accelerated Aging Characteristics of Zn-Pr-Co-Cr-La Oxides-Based Varistors with Sintering Temperature (소결온도에 따른 Zn-Pr-Co-Cr-La 산화물계 바리스터의 DC 가속열화 특성)

  • DC accelerated aging characteristics of Zn-Pr-Co-Cr-La oxides-based varistors were investigated with various sintering temperatures. The varistors sintered at $1240^{\circ}C$ exhibited the highest nonlinearity, with a nonlinear exponent of 79.3 and a leakage current of $0.3\;{\mu}A$, whereas completely degraded because of thermal runaway owing to low sintered density. The varistors sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ exhibited not only a high nonlinearity with the nonlinear exponent 61.4 and the leakage current 0.7 ${\mu}A$, but also a high stability with the variation rates of varistor voltage and nonlinear exponent are -1.01% and -10.67%, respectively, under DC stress condition such as $(0.85\;V_{1mA}/115^{\circ}C/24\;h)+(0.90\;V_{1mA}/120^{\circ}C/24\;h)+(0.95\;V_{1mA}/125^{\circ}C/24\;h)+(0.95\;V_{1mA}/150^{\circ}C/24\;h)$.

  • The role of Unmanned Aircraft Vehicles(UAVs) has been increasing significantly in both military and civilian operations. Many complex systems, such as UAVs, are difficult to model accurately because they exhibit nonlinearity and show variations with time. Therefore, the control system must address the issues of uncertainty, nonlinearity, and complexity. Hence, identification of the mathematical model is an important process in controller design. In this paper, attitude dynamics identification of UAV is investigated. Using the flight data, nonlinear state space model for attitude dynamics of UAV is derived and verified. Real time simulation results show that the model dynamics match experimental data.

  • Backlash between meshing gear teeth causes impact, tracking error and undesired vibrations. It is usually minimized by precision gear, spring-loaded anti-backlash gears and precise mechanical adjustment. Although these techniques can help to reduce the backlash gap, its cost is relatively high and performance is limited. And the classic controller is insufficient to control the dynamic system with nonlinearity. For these reason, a fuzzy controller is proposed to compensate the backlash effect at a robot system. The input variables are position error and change in error. The output variable can be defined by input voltage of motor. The performance of a fuzzy controller is verified by comparing with a PID controller. The results show that the undesired vibration is suppressed. And then diminishing the position error is observed.

  • The heterodyne laser interferometer has a nano-meter scale resolution. However, the unwanted nonlinearity error caused from frequency-mixing limits the ultra-precise resolution. In this paper, we propose a recursive WLS algorithm to improve the resolution of heterodyne laser interferometer. Some experimental results show an effectiveness of the recursive WLS algorithm in nano-meter scale resolution.

  • A more reliable relaying algorithm for detecting a high impedance fault (HIF) requires fault currents at the relaying point containing information of various HIF characteristics as well as load conditions. As HIF characteristics, there are buildup, shoulder, nonlinearity and asymmetry. This paper presents a modeling method of a HIF in a distribution system using EMTP. In order to represent HIF characteristics, the proposed method uses two time-varying resistances. The first TVR models nonlinearity and asymmetry using voltage as the input. The second TVR models buildup and shoulder using time information as the input. The proposed method is implemented in EMTP.

  • The amount of inflowing Air into the boiler has controlled by manipulating the opening of valve, damper and vane, as fan operated by induction motor operats at constant speed, but these control methods are not efficient. Thus VVVf(Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) control of fan has selected to improve efficiency and to acquire power savings. Control system of Air Flow is affected by nonlinearity caused by load variation, vane opening, etc. The analysis of control parameter causing nonlinearity is needed to acquire optimal control and excellent transient response. This paper provides modeling of boiler with various load conditions and vane opening, and analysis of this system.

  • We propose a measurement state feedback controller for a class of nonlinear systems that have uncertain nonlinearity and sensor noise. The new design method based on the matrix inequality approach solves the measurement feedback control problem of a class of nonlinear systems. As a result, the proposed methods using a matrix inequality approach has the flexibility to apply the controller. In addition, the sensor noise can be attenuated for more generalized systems containing uncertain nonlinearities.

  • The stabilization control of Inverted Pendulum(IP) system is difficult because of its nonlinearity and structural unstability. Futhermore, a series of conventional techniques such as the pole placement and the optimal control based on the local linearizations have narrow stabilizable regions, At the same time, the fine tunings of their gain parameters are also troublesome, Thus, in this paper, an Evolving Neural Network ControlleY(ENNC) which its structure and its connection weights are optimized simultaneously by Real Variable Elitist Genetic Algorithm (RVEGA) was presented for stabilization of an IP system with nonlinearity, This proposed ENNC was described by a simple genetic chromosome. Through the simulation and experimental results, we showed that the finally acquired optimal ENNC was very useful in the stabilization control of IP system.

  • The microstructure, electrical properties, and DC-accelerated aging behavior of the Zn-Pr-Co-Cr-Y-Er (ZPCC-YE) varistors were investigated for different amounts of erbium oxide ($Er_2O_3$). The microstructure consisted of zinc oxide grain and an intergranular layer ($Pr_6O_{11}$, $Y_2O_3$, and $Er_2O_3$-rich phase) as a secondary phase. The increase of $Er_2O_3$ amount decreased the average grain size and increased the sintered density. As the $Er_2O_3$ amount increased, the breakdown field increased from 5094 V/cm to 6966 V/cm and the nonlinear coefficient increased from 27.8 to 45.1. The ZPCC-YE varistors added with 0.5 to 1.0 mol% $Er_2O_3$ are appropriate for high voltage, with high nonlinearity and stability against DC-accelerated aging stress.

Voltage Enhancement of ZnO Oxide Varistors for Various Y2O3 Doping Compositions

  • The microstructure and the electrical properties of a ZnO varistor, which was composed of a ZnO-$Bi_2O_3$-$Sb_2O_3$-CoO- $MnO_2$ -NiO-$Nd_2O_3$ system, were investigated at various $Y_2O_3$ addition concentrations. $Y_2O_3$ played a role in the inhibition of the grain growth. As the $Y_2O_3$ content increased, the average grain size decreased from $6.8{\mu}m$ to $4{\mu}m$, and the varistor voltage($V_{1mA}$) greatly increased from 275 to 400 V/mm. The nonlinearity coefficient ($\alpha$) decreased from 72 to 65 with increasing $Y_2O_3$ amount. On the other hand, the leakage current ($I_L$) increased from 0.2 to 0.9 ${\mu}A$. These results confirmed that doping the varistors with $Y_2O_3$ is a promising production route for production of a higher fine-grained varistor voltage ($V_{1mA}$) which can dramatically reduce the size of the varistors.
