Effects of Temperature on Dielectric Breakdown Strength of Epoxy Compounds Filled with Natural Zecolite

  • To develop the better insulants. the zeolite particle, which is aluminosilicate mineral, was filled In the DGEBA/MDA/SN epoxy resin system. Dynamic DSC curves of cured specimens with various contents of zeolite were observed and the glass transition temperature(T$_{g}$) was obtained. According to this result, we could carry out the experiment concerned with the dielectric breakdown strength around T$_{g}$ and find the limit temperature for the application of the DDEBA/MDA/SN system filled with natural zeolite. T$_{g}$ increased with the content of zeolite. As the temperature increased, the dielectric breakdown strength decreased rapidly, in the region of T$_{g}$. At the high temperature, the deterioration by electrical stress was activated. The diameter of puncture at the high temperature was larger 7han that at the room temperature.erature.

전력케이블 절연접속계면의 절연파괴 특성에 미치는 열처리 효과 (Effect oh Heat Treatment on Breakdown Properties in the Joint Interface of Power Cables)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the breakdown properties in joint interface of power cables with heat treatment. The specimens have the structure of XLPE/EPDM interface like the joint of distribution power cable. The breakdown characteristics of the SLPE/EPDM joint were studied with crosslinking by=products. AC breakdown voltages were measured with heat treatment time and interfacial materials and crosslinking by-products as testing factors. This study has shown that crosslinking by-product gases play an important role at the insulation properties of cable joints by heating. The dielectric strength shows the lowest values at 4 hours heat treatment. The AC breakdown strength in the untreated sample was increased with heat treatment time.

Effect of Organically Modified Layered Silicate on Thermal, Mechanical, and Electrical Properties of Epoxy-Based Nanocomposites

  • In an effort to develop new electrical insulation materials, four different kinds of organically modified layered silicate were incorporated into an epoxy matrix to prepare nanocomposites for electrical insulation. Five wt% of organically modified layered silicates were processed in a planetary centrifugal mixer in an epoxy matrix, and the thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties of the cured epoxy/layered silicate were investigated. The morphology of the nanoscale silicate dispersed in the epoxy matrix was observed using transmission electron microscopy, and the interlayer distance was measured by wide-angle X-ray scattering diffraction analysis.

  • In this paper, describes the fabrication and dielectric insulation characteristics experimental results of the model cable for the 22.9kV class HTS power cable. The model cable were tested with partial discharge(PD), AC and impulse withstand voltage in liquid nitrogen($LN_2$) and liquid nitrogen pressure. In these test results, PD inception stress and AC, impulse breakdown strength increase as the pressure of the liquid nitrogen increases.

  • Alumina-silica composite coating layers were prepared by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of plate-shaped alumina particles dispersed in a sol-gel binder, which was prepared by hydrolysis and the condensation reaction of methyltrimethoxysilane in the presence of colloidal silica. The microstructure and the electrical and thermal properties of the coatings were compared according to the EPD process parameter: voltage, time and the content of the plate-shaped alumina particles. The electrical insulation property of the coatings was measured by a voltage test. The coatings were prepared by EPD of the sol-gel binder with 5-30 wt% plate alumina particles on parallel electrodes at a distance of 2 cm for 1-10 min under an applied voltage of 10-30 V. The coatings experienced increased breakdown voltage with increasing thickness. However, the higher the thickness was, the smaller the breakdown voltage strength was. A breakdown voltage as high as 4.6 kV was observed with a $400{\mu}m$ thickness, and a breakdown voltage strength as high as 27 kV/mm was achieved for the sample under a $100{\mu}m$ thickness.

  • Mechanical and electrical properties of epoxy/silica microcomposites were investigated. The cycloaliphatic- type epoxy resin was diglycidyl 1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylate and the curing agent was of an anhydride type. To measure the glass transition temperature (Tg), dynamic differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis was carried out, and tensile and flexural tests were performed using a universal testing machine (UTM). Electrical breakdown strength, the most important property for electrical insulation materials, and insulation breakdown strength were also tested. The microcomposite with 60 wt% microsilica showed maximum values in mechanical and electrical properties.

  • In order to develop electrical insulation materials, epoxy/micro-silica composite (EMC) and epoxy/micro-silica/nano-silicate composite (EMNC) were prepared, and their tensile and flexural strength, AC insulation breakdown strength and thermal conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient were compared. Nano-silicate was prepared in an epoxy matrix by our AC electric field process. All properties of the neat epoxy were improved by the addition of micro-silica, which was improved much further by the addition of nano-silicate to the EMC system.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze AC Breakdown of solid/air composite insulation depending on the thickness and the pressure of dry air for eco-friendly insulation. SF6 gas has been widely used in electric equipment as gas insulation because of high dielectric strength and arc extinguishing performance. However, because SF6 gas is one of the green house effect gases, alternative insulation such as SF6 mixture, extremely low temperature gas, vacuum, liquid and solid insulating are being investigated.

  • Polymer nanocomposite has been attracting much attention as a new insulation material, since homogeneous dispersion of nm-sized inorganic fillers can improve various properties significantly. In this paper, various kinds of epoxy based nanocomposites were made and AC breakdown strength of Nano-TiO2 and micro-silica filler mixture of epoxy based composites were studied by sphere to sphere electrode. Moreover, nano- and micro-filler combinations were adopted as an approach toward practical application of nanocomposite insulation materials. Nano-TiO2 particle size is about 10nm and composites ratio was resin (100) : hardener (82) : accelerator (1.5). AC breakdown test was performed at room temperature (25 [$^{\circ}C$], 80 [$^{\circ}C$] and 100 [$^{\circ}C$] in the vicinity of Tg (90[$^{\circ}C$]). And thermal conductivity were measured by ASTM-D5470.

  • In this paper the experiments of breakdown characteristics of rod-electrodes by pressure and gap change of imitation-air were described. The results are fundamental data for electric insulation design of distribution power facilities which will be studied and developed in the future. And we could make an environment friendly gas insulation material with mataining dielectric strength by imitation air which generates a lower lever of the global warming effect.
