  • The rotary type testing machine undergoes mechanical stress as an external force is applied. In case of the rotary type testing machine, even a tiny flaw results in a fatal demage because the size of the machine is huge. Therefore, when designing the rotary type testing machine, it is necessary to secure a safety factor with the mechanical stress analysis in order to prevent the machine from being destroyed due to scattering or transformation of rotating field. This thesis proposes a LSM rotary type tesitng machine which rotates at the speed of up to 600km/h. And the mechanical stress is considered in order that the safety factor remains above 1.5 at the maximum speed. In addition, because normal force as well as thrust occurs in the machine, the normal force exerted was considered through the strength analysis. Finally, a design plan which enables to weaken the normal force affecting the rotary type testing machine is introduced and its validity is proved by the results of FEM analysis.

  • A Lagrangian stochastic model is adopted for the calculations of turbulent dispersion in turbulent channel flows. Dispersion of a fluid particle and relative dispersion between two particles released at the sane location are investigated and compared with the classical seating relations for homogeneous turbulence. The viscous effect is realized by adding a Browinian random walk to the calculation of the position of a particle. The near-wall accumulation of particles is examined.

  • For increasing the insulating proper-ties and the reliability of composite materials due to environmental aging, the electrical and mechanical characteristics of moisture absortion specimens and moisture desorption specimens were investigated. After moisture absorption wt% and moisture desorption wt% increased with time, a state of saturation arrived subsequent to a constant time. Moisture absorption constants with the layers of glass fiber showed 0.0117 in 1 layer, 0.0123 in 2 layers and 0.0152 in 3 layers. Electrical and mechanical characteristics dropped significantly with moisture absorbing in composite materials. Although moisture dried completly at 70.deg. C, it is impossible to obtain the electrical and mechanical characteristics before moisture absorption. Many defaults by moisture in composite materials exist at interface between epoxy matrix and filler.

  • There is a growing demand for a high voltage silicone rubber composite with high mechanical property and high electrical property. The effect of modified cross-linking agent on the mechanical, electrical properties, and short-circuit test performance of silicone rubber insulators have been investigated. To use base polymer, the various silicone polymers were prepared by the equilibrium polymerization. Aluminum trihydrate surface was treated by vinyl silane. Liquid silicone rubber nanocomposite was prepared from the compounding of VPMPS, HPDMS, catalyst, and alumina trihydrate modified with 1,3,5-trivinyl-l,3,5-trimethylcyclotrisiloxane. The mechanical property and electrical property for insulation materials were measured, indicating the high tensile strength and the good short-circuit property.

  • In this paper, we present an analysis of dynamic characteristics of an electromagnetic actuator for circuit breakers. It is indispensable to simultaneously analyze magnetic, electric, and mechanical phenomena to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the electromagnetic actuator because these phenomena are closely related to each other in an electromagnetic actuator system. The magnetic equations are computed by using the finite element method (FEM). The electric equations and the mechanical equations, which include the time derivative terms, are calculated by using the time difference method (TDM). The calculated results, which have been obtained by means of the FEM and the TDM, are presented with experimental data.

  • Insulated methods of compact bus duct has been applied a way of coating Epoxy powder. The problem which is caused by degradation during operation is very important in severe environment. Therefore, this study compared and verified many kind of properties ; electrical breakdown by thermal and water aging, v-t characteristic, arc discharge, mechanical properties, bending test and cross cut. Sample D was stable before the $T_g$ to be about $7{\sim}10 %$ decrease in the breakdown test according to temperature change. In case of V-t and arc discharge, it had been kept up suitable characteristic. Also, in case of electrical and mechanical characteristic, both sample D and A have excellent capacity.

  • The high electrical conductivity Cu-0.15% Sn alloys containing various P contents, and the high conductivity and high strength Cu-0.1% Sn-0.1%Ag alloys with various Mg/P additions were fabricated and their mechanical properties and electrical conductivity were investigated. The electrical conductivity was generally decreased as the P content was increased where as the hardness and strength was shown to increase. When Mg was added to P-containing Cu alloys, the detrimental effect of P on the conductivity was significantly reduced, and TEM observations indicated that the formation of $Mg_3P_2$ phase is responsible for this result.

  • A conducting crack in an electrostrictive ceramic under combined electric and mechanical loading is investigated. Analysis based on linear dielectric model predicts that the surfaces of the crack are not open completely but they are contact near the crack tip. The complete solution for the crack with a contact zone in a linear electrostrictive ceramic under combined electric and mechanical loading is obtained by using the complex variable formula. The asymptotic problems for a semi-infinite crack with a partial opening zone as well as for a fully open semi-infinite crack in a nonlinear electrostrictive ceramic are analyzed in order to investigate the effect of the electrical nonlinearity on the stress intensity factor under small scale nonlinear conditions. Particular attention is devoted to a finite crack in the nonlinear electrostrictive ceramic subjected to combined electric and mechanical loading. The stress intensity factor for the finite crack under small scale nonlinear conditions is obtained from the asymptotic analysis.

  • Electric contacts serve the purpose of transmitting electric signals across two conducting components. In this paper, the effects of contact conditions such as surface roughness, oxidation, and contamination were investigated with respect to electrical resistance variation of a connector in a direct current circuit. Such change in the electrical resistance is particularly important for low power circuits. The experimental results showed that compared with the effects of contact surface scratch or oxidation, the effect of contamination on the resistance variation was the most significant. In order to minimize failure due to electrical resistance change at the contact region, proper sealing to prevent contamination from entering the interface is needed.

  • The electrical and mechanical properties of room temperature vulcanized (RTV) silicone rubber composites are investigated as functions of multi-walled carbon nanotube (CNT), carbon black (CB), and thinner content. The thinner is used to improve the CNT and CB dispersion in the matrix. The electrical and mechanical properties of the composite with CNT are improved when compared to the composite with CB at the same content. As the thinner content is 80 phr, the electric resistance of the composite decreases significantly with the CNT content and shows contact point saturation of CNT at 2.5 phr. As the thinner content increases, the dispersion of conductive particles improves; however, the critical CB content increases because of the reduction in the CB weight ratio. It is believed that an electrode that needs good flexibility and excellent electrical properties can be manufactured when the amount of CNT and CB are increased with the thinner content.
