Finite-difference Time-domain Study on Birefringence Changes of the Axon During Neural Activation

  • Recently, there has been a growing interest in optical imaging of neural activity because the optical neuroimaging has considerable advantages over conventional imaging. Birefringence of the axon has been reported to change during neural activation, but the neurophysiological origin of the change is still unresolved. This study hypothesizes that the birefringence signal is at least partially attributed to the transient cellular volume change associated with nerve excitation. To examine this hypothesis, we investigated how the intensity of cross-polarized light transmitting through the axon would change as the size of the axon changes. For this purpose, a two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain program was developed with the improvement of the total-field/scattered-field method which reduces numerical noise. The results support our hypothesis in that the computed cross-polarized signals exhibit some agreement with previously-reported birefringence signals.

  • 겨울철 저온환경에서 디젤 엔진의 점화를 지원하는 통합형연료히터의 활성화분석용 데이터 모니터랑 장치를 개발한다. 디젤엔진의 연료인 경유는 일정한 온도 이하로 내려가면 파라핀과 같은 반고체 상태인 왁싱(Waxing)물질을 형성하여 엔진시동이 잘 걸리지 않는다. 이러한 엔진점화의 시동성능 평가에 중요한 요소로 극저온에서 극고온사이 온도변화에 따른 엔진점화 시간, 히터 저항과 전류에 따른 지연시간 및 유압 등이 있다. 따라서 연료라인과 연료 히터간 활성화 동작을 분석하기 위해 센서 장치를 개발하고, 온도 및 압력 데이터를 모니터링하여 연료히터의 성능을 측정한다. 연료히터 연료라인의 온도와 압력에서 측정된 데이터는 모바일 기기를 사용하여 원격으로 데이터를 수집하고, 데이터 분석을 통해 연료히터의 문제점을 찾을 수 있는 장치의 유용성을 제시한다.

SHS of Oxide Systems Based on MCR of Quartz Modified by Organometallic Compounds

  • The differences of the effects of mechanical substance pre-activation in the mills with divers force effect schemes on the self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS) of the $SiO_2$ + 37.5% Al system were investigated. The power saturation of activated material state are estimated referring on the variations of dilatometry curve paths. The effects of activation time on the temperature of sample self-ignited in the furnace, combustion temperature and completeness of the quartz reaction with aluminium were determined. The enhancing effects of organic modifiers of quartz particle surfaces on the further SHS synthesis development were shown.

Characteristic in Mg-doped p-type GaN changing activation temperature in $N_2$ gas ambient

  • Conventional furnace annealing (CFA) for activating Mg-doped p-type GaN films had been performed in pure $N_2$ ambient. All sample activated the same gas ambient. The annealing process change temperature: the first process is performed at $550^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. but, the first process is the same bulk. From second to five process increase activation temperature to change $50^{\circ}C$ and annealing time keeping for 10 min. It is found that the samples characteristic measure hall measurement. Similar results were also evidenced by photoluminescence (PL) measurement.

  • The electron drift mobility of poly(4,4'-cyclohexylidenediphenyl carbonate) (PC-Z) doped with 3,5-dimethy-3,5-di-t-butylstilbenequinone(MBSQ), 3,5,3,5-tetra-t-butyl stilbenequinone(TBSQ) and 3,5,3,5-tetra-methyl stilbenequinone(TMSQ) was measured by the time-of-flight technique. The electric field and temperature dependences of the electron drift mobility were discussed with Poole-Frenkel, Arrhenius formulations and non-Arrhenius type of temperature dependence. It was assumed that the hopping sites were Gaussian distribution. Mobility and activation energy of MBSQ were increased with increasing dopant. However, mobilities and activation energy of TBSQ and TMSQ were increased and decreased, respectively.

원격 어깨재활 운동 디바이스 및 모니터링 시스템 개발 (Development of a Remote Shoulder Rehabilitation Exercise Device and Monitoring System)

  • In this paper, we developed a shoulder rehabilitation exercise device and monitoring system to remotely provide rehabilitation system for the ones who need shoulder exercises including the patients with rotator cuff rupture. In order to evaluate the severity of shoulder muscle injury, a total of 4 shoulder rehabilitation exercises ((3) shoulder abduction, (2) shoulder flexion, (3) shoulder abduction with elbow flexion, (4) shoulder extension with elbow flexion) were selected and instructed to be performed with a 3 kg dumbbell for 5 times. For EMG (electromyogram) signal analysis, each subject's maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) was measured. EMG signals reflect the activation level of contracting muscles during dynamic exercises. Six participants' muscle activation levels in posterior deltoid, middle deltoid, upper trapezius, and infraspinatus were measured and compared. The mean power spectrum values in the time and frequency domains were compared between two age-matched groups (20s and 50s). The results showed lower muscle activation in the elderly subjects (n=3) compared to that of the ones in their twenties (n=3).

  • SiC has been an useful material for the high voltage, high temperature, and high frequency devices, however, the required high process temperature to activate the implanted p-type dopants has hindered further developments. In this study, we report, for the first time, on the laser activation of implanted Al and non-alloyed Mo ohmic contacts and its application to MOSFET fabrication. The contact and sheet resistance measured from CTLM patterns have decreased by increasing laser power, and the lowest values are 3.9 $K\Omega$/$\square$ and 1.3 $\times$ 10$^{-3}$ $\Omega$-cm$^2$, respectively, at the power density of 1.45 J/cm$^2$ The n-MOSFETs fabricated on laser activated p-well exhibit well-behaved I-V characteristics and threshold voltage reduction by reverse body voltage. These results prove that the laser process for implant activation is an alternative low temperature technology applicable to SiC devices.

진공 어닐링한 바나듐 산화악의 구조적, 전기적 특성 (Structural and Electrical Properties of Vanadium Oxide Thin Films Annealed in Vacuum)

  • Thin films of vanadium oxide(VO/sub x/) were deposited by r.f. magnetron sputtering from V₂O/sub 5/ target with oxygen/(oxygen+argon) partial pressure ratio of 0% and 8% and in situ annealed in vacuum at 400℃ for 1h and 4h. Crystal structure, chemical composition, molecular structure, optical and electrical properties of films were characterized through XRD, XPS, RBS, FTIR, optical absorption and electrical conductivity measurements. The films as-deposited are amorphous, but 0%O₂ films annealed for time longer than 4h and 8% O₂ films annealed for time longer than 1h are polycrystalline. As the oxygen partial pressure is increased the films become more stoichiometric V₂O/sub 5/. When annealed at 400℃, the as-deposited films are reduced to a lower oxide. The optical transmission of the films annealed in vacuum decreases considerably than the as-deposited films and the optical absorption of all the films increases rapidly at wavelength shorter than about 550nm. Electrical conductivity and thermal activation energy are increased with increasing the annealing time and with decreasing the oxygen partial pressure.

  • A theoretical investigation of the solid-phase mechanochemical synthesis of nano-sized target product on the basis of dilution of the initial powdered reagent mixture by another product of an exchange reaction is presented. On the basis of the proposed 3-mode particle size distribution in mechanically activated mixture, optimal molar ratios of the components in mixture are calculated, providing the occurrence of impact-friction contacts of reagent particles and excluding aggregation of the nanosized particles of the target reaction product. Derivation of kinetic equations for mechanochemical synthesis of nanoscale particles by the final product dilution method in the systems of exchange reactions is submitted. On the basis of obtained equations the necessary times of mechanical activation for complete course of mechanochemical reactions are designed. Kinetics of solid phase mechanosynthesis of nano-TlCl by dilution of initial (2NaCl + $Tl_2SO_4$) mixture with the exchange reaction product (diluent, $zNa_2SO_4$, $z=z^*=11.25$) was studied experimentally. Some peculiar features of the reaction mechanism were found. Parameters of the kinetic curve of nano-TlCl obtained experimentally were compared with those for the model reaction KBr + TlCl + zKCl = (z + 1) KCl + TlBr ($z=z_l^*=13.5$), and for the first time the value of mass transfer coefficient in a mechanochemical reactor with mobile milling balls was evaluated. Dynamics of the size change was followed for nanoparticle reaction product as a function of mechanical activation time.
