Design of Wireless Smart Plug for Energy Sensor Network (에너지 센서 네트워크를 위한 무선 스마트 플러그 설계)

  • In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of wireless smart plug having AC power sensor and intelligent standby power control algorithm for energy sensor network. The adaptive standby power control algorithm has function to apply different threshold of standby power by using learning algorithm depending on electric equipments. As using the proposed algorithm, user convenience will be more better and power consumption can be more reduced. The implemented prototypes of wireless smart plug and wireless access point were tested to verify the required functions and performance. As a result, we confirmed practicality of wireless smart power sensor and satisfaction of given design specifications.

  • High Power Laboratory is the facility for building to simulate the various phenomena generated from electric systems of the real world and to test making and breaking capability, switching capability and durability of circuit breaker, switchgear and other electric utilities, moreover, load equipments which contain capacitor bank is installed for studying the diverse effects originated from the constituent of load through entire systems or receiving end. Such factors, abnormal voltage or current, can be serious in electrical systems, especially, in the case caused by capacitive components such as overvoltage or inrushcurrent, the problems may be more fatal to the systems. In this paper, the optimal design of capacitor bank which will be equipped in High Power Laboratory, which is for simulating as closely as the practical phenomena resulted from the capacitive currents, and the verification aided by computer simulations are presented. For this, analysis of the circuit characteristics according to the standards which can be criteria of the capacitive current tests and the test circuit configuration in accordance with the analysis are proposed in prelude. In the body of the paper the optimal design of capacitor bank has been obtained on the basis of all conditions mentioned above and the test circuit configuration with LGIS test requirements. furthermore, analysis and verification for the design are derived by EMTP. finally, evaluation for the capacitor bank design and further study plan are concluded.

  • There has been a gradual increase in the demand for the electric power in Korea. In order to meet the demand, power station should have technical functions with increased effectiveness. When accident happens in electric machinery at power stations, huge amount of economic losses and mulfunction of equipments occur. One of the accidents is a deteriorated cables operating power stations. In order to prevent cable accident in advance, we should monitor the insulation status of the cable. Cable accidents are resulting from the junctions. We have developed and installed a device in order to identify the status of junction part of power cable at Korea Western Power Co., Ltd.. We performed an accurate diagnosis for the stable utilization of junctions where the accidents occurs most frequently, and to increase the reliability. In this paper, we present the concepts of our device and the method of monitoring diagnosis for the stable use of junctions at cables predicting the life time of cables by analyzing the data obtained by the device. We also present the hardware aspect of the device we have developed.

A Study on the Operation Strategy of Radiant Floor Cooling in Apartment Buildings (공동주택에서 바닥복사냉방의 적정 운영방안에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the operation strategy of the radiant floor cooling is evaluated in terms of indoor environmental conditions and energy consumption through simulations using the TRNSYS comparing the existing cooling operation. The operation strategy during continuously operated for cooling is proposed that a representative room had additional equipments and other rooms were operated with only a radiant floor cooling system and that system and control method for cooling are varied with period while intermittently operated for cooling. Specifically, when there are no people in the room, rooms were operated by only radiant floor cooling system using cooling storage and when people are occupied, rooms were operated by dehumidification and supplementary cooling device with radiant floor cooling system. The results of this study show that proposed operation strategy can stably maintain the set room air temperature and can reduce the energy consumption compared to the existing cooling method during continuously operated for cooling. While intermittently operated for cooling, the difference of set room air temperature by proposed operation strategy does not happen, satisfying comfort standards and the radiant floor cooling can expect to supply stable electric power because of decreasing demand for peak electric power of energy consumption.

General CATV is a way of multi-channel sending images, voices and music including stillness image as well as characters to public receivers through electrical cable communication system. In the beginning, master antennas were people can not receive TV signal well. TV programs were received from master antennas to TVs in each house. Ground connection began by experimenting lightning with the use of a kite and it means electric appliances, communication equipments, measuring instruments and so on connecting the Earth in order to flow away overcharged electricity. There are two kinds of earth connection: Power Ground and Signal Ground. Power Ground is for preventing an electric shock and in general there's no current in the connector. However in an accident, there's a quick flow of electricity out to the Earth. Signal Ground is not only for the safety of appliances but also for the safety of equipment operation. This paper is about connection for noise and interference reduce in order to prevent wrong operation and distortion of signal in the electrical appliances which can take place in CATV.

  • Micro-SMES(Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage) has been studied as an impulsive high power supply for industrial applications. Recently, electric power reliability of our country has been improved. However, there are still remaining problems which are short-duration variations like instantaneous and momentary interruption and voltage sag by nature calamity ; typhoon, lightning, snow, etc. Besides, power quality ; harmonics, goes down because of using power electronics equipments. Malfunction of controller and stop machinery, and losing important data are caused by poor power quality at a couple of second in accuracy controllers. Due to those, battery based UPS has been used, but there are several disadvantages ; long charge and discharge time, environmental problem by acid and heavy metal, and short life time. Micro-SMES is an alternative to settle problems mentioned above. However, there need huge system apparatuses in order to verify the effect of system efficiency and stability considering the size of micro-SMES, the sort of converter type, and various conditions. This paper presents a cost effective simulation method of micro-SMES and power converter, and design for micro-SMES based system using PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • The sulfur oxides is one of important materials to come about air pollution at thermal plant consuming fossil fuel. The several flue gas desulfurization equipments are installed and operated to decrease sulfur oxides. The flue gas desulfurization of our thermal plant is designed for optimizing flue gas desulfurization technical development and research by Korea Electric Power Research Institute. We operate this desulfurization equipment. Now, our country imports nearly 97 percentage of the energy source and competes with the world for the energy because of the sudden rise of raw materials cost. The fuel cost decrease of power plants is the most important factor of the operation. The fuel used in the experiment is the domestic anthracite from Kangwon Taeback and the bituminous coal from Taldinsky Mine in Russia. This Study is experimental investigations of desulfurization characteristics for domestic anthracite power plant by increasing bituminous coal. We surveyed possible parameters and conducted the performance about desulfurization equipment in Yong Dong thermal power plant.

  • A calculation method on performance impact of the controllable operations parameter such as GT inlet filter ${\Delta}P$, compressor efficiency, and condenser pressure was devised to achieve best performance of combined cycle power plant with the on-line performance monitoring system. This method calculates the performance impact on the deviation between 'Expected' values and 'Actual' values. Controllable parameter targets are determined based on achievable performance given existing equipments and control conditions.

We have to explore alternate energy sources and utilize effectively domestic resources. The lighting equipments developed Energy saving by using an electric ballast. The load installation should be promoted to rational power management, according to the network, inteligent, and high-function.
