The purpose of this paper is to conduct ETA on six items of ESS: the whole system, battery, BMS, PCS, ESS and cable. To achieve that, ESS work flow and its components are categorized. Based on performance, human, environmental, management, and safety, this paper drew initiation events (IE) and end states (ES). ETA is applied to the main functions of each item, and the end states that may occur in one initiation event are suggested. In addition, detailed classification was performed to induce various end states on the basis of the suggested initiation events ; loss of grid electricity of ESS, loss of battery electricity(DC) of battery, impairment of electric function of BMS, loss of grid electricity(AC) of PCS, loss of data of EMS, Mechanical damage of cable, event sequence analysis conducted on the basis of event trees. If the suggested IEs and ESs are applied on the basis of ESS event cases, it is expected to prevent the same kinds of accident and operate ESS safely.
Heavy water is used as a moderator and a coolant in the pressurized heavy water reactor Because of the high cost of heavy water, downgraded heavy water generated in the reactor system is recycled to the reactor after being concentrated up to 99.8% or more in heavy water upgraders. This study investigates the process of upgraders and then suggests a theoretical model. The relations between process variables are derived from tower packing characteristics, vapour-liquid equilibria, and mass-heat balance equations at a steady state operation of the upgrader h computer program UPGR is developed, using the algorithm that solves the nonlinear equations step by step. It shows that the results of computer simulation are in good agreement with the operating data of the Wolsung upgrader. Thus, this computer code offers the optimum operating guide and is now applied to manage the performance of upgraders for the effective operation of the heavy water upgraders.
Deregulation and restructuring of electric industry change the fundamental nature of electric business which will be coordinated by the evolved market structures such as spot market with pool and bilateral transaction structure, forward market and future market. Introduction of competition can significantly change the system operation in near-terms as well as long-run generation expansion planning Previous centralized planning by monopoly utilities which was guided for the public service purpose will be replaced by decentralized investments plan by individual generation companies in response to commercial incentives. This paper reviews WASP model as a centralized planning tool and presents a methodological analysis of generation expansion planning in deregulated power systems. It stresses how affects the process of planning new generation investments by the introduction of competition and how maintains proper fuel mix and continuously sustains system reliability under deregulated environments.

The improvement in the battery performance and life using a battery thermal management system directly affects the improvement in the performance, life, and energy efficiency of electric vehicles. Therefore, this study numerically analyzed the heat exchange processes between the coolant inside the cooling plate channel and the heat generated by the battery. The cooling performance was analyzed based on the average temperature, temperature uniformity, and the maximum and minimum temperature differences of the battery. A performance difference existed depending on the coolant inlet temperature but showed the same tendency of cooling performance according to the shape of each plate's channel. Type 1 showed the best results in terms of battery temperature uniformity, which is the most important measure of battery performance; Type 2 showed the best results in terms of the average temperature of the battery; and Type 3 showed the best results in terms of the maximum and minimum temperature differences of the battery compared with that of the other cooling plates.
The free and forced vibration in addition to electric energy harvesting of a piezoelectric disk resting on two-parameter foundation modeled by modified couple stress as well as Kirchhoff plate theory is probed. The governing equations and boundary conditions are obtained using Hamilton's principle. Then, the free and forced vibration are solved using numerical solutions, generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) and Newmark-beta method. The forced vibration is resulted from a base excitation load. Also, the possible voltage which can be harvested from this system is obtained using generalized integral quadrature method. The validity of the formulation and solution procedure is confirmed using a compassion study. The impact of parameters such as length effect, inner to outer radius ratio, and foundations parameters on the free and forced vibration as well as energy harvesting is investigated in detail. This paper can be a basis for future studies in the area of piezoelectric harvesters in small scales.

Current power systems are distributed geographically and operated in the form of Energy Management System(EMS)/ Supervision Control and Data Acquisition(SCADA) with the aid of computers and communications. Recently a variety of utilities have had interests in using inforrration technology to bring the efficiency and low operational costs. There is also a trend to integrdte the production, transmission, distribution and management/control of power into one and unified distributed system. To this end, Electric Power Hesearch Institute(EPRI) announced a new standard communication protocol called Inter-Control Center Protocol(ICCP).ICCP specifies the use of Manufacturing Message Specification(MMS) for services required by rccr in application layer and supports the communications between heterogeneous control centers. This paper presents the characteristics of MMS,ICCP and their relationship. Futherrnore, we implement the basic functional blocks of ICCP using MMS services under TCI/IP environments. Finally, we model a simple power system and apply the rccp protocol to this system in a window-based scheme, and finally show the operation and validation of this protocol.

The electric propulsion development is underway to minimize pollutants and greenhous gas emissions during the operation of ships / offshore installation vessels. The importance of the use and efficient management of batteries, which is an ESS system in ships / offshore installation vessels, is increasing. Generally, in ESS where battery is applied, cell balancing and life span are monitored in real time by BMS. Ships / offshore installation vessel are equipped with several ESS rooms, and ESS rooms with ESS systems of the same specification are being constructed due to the recent demand for electric propulsion development. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to additionally predict and diagnose battery pack and cell balancing failures by comparing BMS data for each rooms. The proposed algorithm compares the BMS data of each ESS Room according to the environmental change of the ship / offshore installation vessels, measures accurate status information, and reliably monitors it to prevent accidents in advance.

Recently, inverter control systems have attracted immense attention to increase the energy efficiency. However, such systems use repeated on/off high currents for linear operation control, instead of the prevalent step variable current control method. Hence, there arise concerns of personal and property damage, especially due to the durability, explosive characteristics, and operating speed of the fuse, which is responsible for safety and is one of the internal components using current control. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an IEC60127-4 SMD sub-miniature fuse, consisting of Ag-Cu alloys and ceramic powder for arc soothing. The IEC60127-4 SMD sub-miniature fuse has high durability and cut-off capacity, and operates safely in dangerous circumstances caused by the inverter control system.
To serve basic data for the design of capacity and management of Distributed(or On-site) Power Generation System using renewable energies, this study measured the electric power consumption(hereafter abbreviated as EPC) of 5 families of fishing village located at island in southeastern area of Korea. The results are as following. The maximum monthly average EPC occurred in December or January. Although the total monthly EPC of H family is 2~3 times more than J family, individual monthly EPC of J family is 10~30 % more than H family. Hourly EPC pattern shows that the maximum EPC occurred between 20~24 o'clock in summer season, but it occurred between 18~24 o'clock in winter season. Compared to summer, the height of fluctuation through a day is small. And the EPC patterns of weekdays and weekend estimated as very similar.
It is a difficult task for decision makers(DMs) to choose an appropriate release plan which balances the conflicts between water storage and hydro-electric energy generation in a multi-reservoir operation problem. In this study, we proposed a DEA-based ranking procedure by which the DM can rank the potential alternatives and select the best solution among the Pareto-optimal solutions. The proposed procedure can resolve the problem of mix inefficiency that may cause errors in measuring the efficiency of alternatives. We applied the proposed procedure to the multi-reservoir operation problem for the Geum-River basin and could choose the best efficient solution from the Pareto-set which were generated by the Coordinated Multi-Reservoir Operating Model.
