A new type electrolyzing cell with slits on parallel plate electrodes and wire-to-cylinder type electrode system has been proposed instead of the conventional parallel plate type. An investigation was carried out on the effect of the number and size of slits on ion precipitation and oxidant generation characteristics, evidenced by eliminated space charge limiting action and by elevated electric fields in active interelectrode spacing. And it is also studied on the effect of the diameter of wire electrode to ion precipitation and oxidant generation characteristics. With electrode with 48 slits, very oxidants generation water of 3.1 [ppmm] and 19.0 [ppmm] in positive electrode side were obtained with tap water and 0.1 [wt%] NaCl dissolved tap waterfed. In addition, with wire-to-cylinder type electrode system, it is found that oxidant contained water of 0.48 [ppmm] and 5.46 [ppmm] in positive electrode side were obtained with tap water and 0.1 [wt%] NaCl dissolved tap water fed for the case of discharge electrode diameter of 0.5 [$mm{\phi}$]. Consequently, very high ion precipitation and dense oxidant generation characteristics can be realized by having slits on the electrodes of conventional cell as these slits increase the electric fields and decrease the space charge limiting actions in interelectrode spacing.
In the past ten years, $LiMn_2O_4$-based spinels have been extensively studied as positive electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries. To improve the cycle performance of spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ as the cathode of 4V class lithium secondary batteries, spinel phases $LiMn_2O_4$ were prepared at various temperatures ranging form 600-900$^{\cire}C$ in air. The results showed that charge.dischare capacity of $LiMn_2O_4$ varied at 1st temperature from $200^{\circ}C to 600^{\circ}C$ increase with increasing temperature. $LiMn_2O_4$ synthesized at 2nd temperature $750^{\circ}C$excellent charge.discharge capacity, efficiency and cyclability compared to the samplesynthesized different temperatures. The value of lst charge.discharge capacity was 121mAh/g, 118mAh/g, Also, the efficiency value was about 97%.

We describe a redox-enhanced electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC) that turns the electrolyte in a conventional EDLC into an integral, active component for charge storage-charge is stored both through faradaic reactions with soluble redox-active molecules in the electrolyte, and through the double-layer capacitance in a porous carbon electrode. The mixed-redox electrolyte, composed of vanadium and iodides, was employed to achieve high power density. The electrochemical reaction in a supercapacitor with vanadium and iodide was studied to estimate the charge capacity and energy density of the redox supercapacitor. A redox supercapacitor with a mixed electrolyte composed of 0.75 M NaI and 0.5 M $VOSO_4$ was fabricated and studied. When charged to a potential of 1 V, faradaic charging processes were observed, in addition to the capacitive processes that increased the energy storage capabilities of the supercapacitor. The redox supercapacitor achieved a specific capacity of 13.44 mAh/g and an energy density of 3.81 Wh/kg in a simple Swagelok cell. A control EDLC with 1 M $H_2SO_4$ yielded 7.43 mAh/g and 2.85 Wh/kg. However, the relatively fast self-discharge in the redox-EDLC may be due to the shuttling of the redox couple between the polarized carbon electrodes.

As environmentally friendly energy takes center stage, interests for Electric Vehicles/Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (EVs/PHEVs) are getting increase. With this trend, there is no doubt EVs will take large portion to penetrations of total cars. Therefore, accurate EV modeling is required. Battery is one of the main components with the power system view of aspect. Hence, in this paper, reviews and discussions of some types of batteries for EV are contained by considering energy density and weight of the batteries. In addition, simulations of Li-Ion battery are accomplished with various variables such as temperature, capacity fading and charge/discharge current. It is confirmed that temperature is the main factor of capacity fading. Validation of the modeled battery is also conducted by comparing it with commercialized battery.
In an insulating dielectric liquid such as transformer oil, space charge injection and propagation were analyzed under the Fowler-Nordheim and Richardson-Dushman's thermal emission charge injection conditions for blade-plane electrodes stressed by a step voltage. The governing equations were composed of all five equations such as the Poisson's equation for electric fields, three continuity equations for electrons, negative, and positive ions, and energy balanced equation for temperature distributions. The governing equations for each carrier, the continuity equations, belong to the hyperbolic-type PDE of which the solution has a step change at the space charge front resulting in numerical instabilities. To decrease these instabilities, the governing equations were solved simultaneously by the Finite Element Method (FEM) employing the artificial diffusion scheme as a stabilization technique. Additionally, the terminal current was calculated by using the generalized energy method which is based on the Poynting's theorem, and represents more reliable and stable approach for evaluating discharge current. To verify the proposed method, the discharge phenomena were successfully applied to the blade~plane electrodes, where the radius of blade cap was $50{\mu}m$.
The objective of this paper is to study the discharge phenomenon for a point-plane air interval using an original fuzzy logic system. Firstly, a physical model based on streamer theory with consideration of the space charge fields due to electrons and positive ions is proposed. To test this model we have calculated the breakdown threshold voltage for a point-plane air interval. The same model is used to determine the discharge steps for different configurations as an inference data base. Secondly, using results obtained by the numerical simulation of the previous model, we have introduced the fuzzy logic technique to predict the breakdown threshold voltage of the same configurations used in the numerical model and make estimation on the insulating state of the air interval. From the comparison of obtained results, we can conclude that they are in accordance with the experimental ones obtained for breakdown discharges in different point-plane air gaps collected from the literature. The proposed study using fuzzy logic technique shows a good performance in the analysis of different discharge steps of the air interval.
Electric vehicles should be connected to power system for charge and discharge of battery. Besides vehicle's battery is charged for a power source, it is also reversibly possible to provide power source from battery to power system. Researches on battery usage for regulation resources have been progressed and could cause cost increase excessively because they distribute regulation capacity equally without considering the battery wear cost of SOC, temperature, voltage and so on. This causes increase of grid maintenance cost and aggravate economical efficiency. In this paper it is studied that the cost could be minimized according to the battery condition and characteristic. The equation is developed in this paper to calculate the possible number of charge and discharge cycle, according to SOC level and weighting factors representing the relation between battery life and temperature as well as voltage. Thereafter, the correlation is inferred between the battery condition and wear cost reflecting the battery price, and the expense of compensation is decided according to the condition on battery wear-out of vehicle. In addition, using realtime error between load and load expectation, it is calculated how much regulation capacity should be provided.
This paper introduces the mechanism of the ESD(electrostatic discharge) in the HDD spindle system using FDBs(fluid dynamic bearings). When a HDD(hard disk drive) spindle system is rotating, triboelectric charging occurs in the FDBs through the friction between the lubricant and the rotating shaft or between the lubricant and stationary sleeve. And this electrostatic charge is accumulated in the rotating parts of the HDD spindle system because they are insulated from the ground by the lubricant. This research shows experimentally that the behavior of electric charge and discharge in the FDB spindle system is the same as that of a capacitor. It also measures the electrostatic voltage difference between the rotating and stationary parts in the FDB spindle system due to the change of humidity, supporting load and motor speed. This research shows that the control of ESD is required in the HDD spindle system using FDBs, because the electrostatic charge accumulated in the FDB spindle system may cause the breakdown damage of the GMR head and data loss consequently.
This paper describes the machining characteristics of the sintered carbide and die steel by electric discharge drilling with various tubular electrodes. Electrical discharge machining(EDM) removes material from the workpiece by a series of electrical sparks that cause localized temperatures high enough to melt or vaporise the metal in the vicinity of the charge. In the experiment, four types of electrode which have different diameter are used with the application of continuous direct current and axial electrode feed. The controlled factors include the dimension of the electrode. In drilling by EDM, the dielectric flushed down the interior of the rotating tube electrode, in order to facilitate the removal of machining debris from the hole.
