Accurate measurements of elastic constants are important from the view points of both science and engineering. The measurement can be viewed from scientific principle as a service tools for analyzing and improving the understanding of the nature of bondings between atoms and between ions. Also, from engineering perspective it would became an important factor to be definitely considered for the design of machinery equipments. In this investigation, two dynamic experimental methods of vibrations (acoustic method and Impulse technique method) are utilized and the results from the both methods are compared to obtain elastic constants data with a high degree of accuracy. The resonance frequencies obtained from the two methods are applied to both Euler and Timoshenko beam equations respectively, to determine the sources for possible differences.
This paper reports on the elatic-plastic analysis and fracture behavior of cylinder with outer surface crack which is under external or internal pressure. For the studuty of crack length effects in cylinder, ratios of crack lengths to finite thickness (a/t) are dertermined 0.3, 0.4, 0.5. For the study of curvature effects in cylinders, ratios of mean diameter to finite thicknees (Rm/t) are determined 10.0, 15.0, 20.0. Analysis is conduceted using the theory of fracture mechanics and two dimensional finite element solution assuming the axi-symmetrical plane strain conditon. Main results of this study are as follows. 1) It is known from this paper that elastic-plastic strain is initiated near crack tip and enlarged between crack tip and inner side of cylinder. 2) $K_{1}$ of cylinder under external or internal pressure is evaluated memebrane stress .root..pi.* crack length. The results of this study are inclined to Lomacky's results and Kobayshi's result. 3) Distribution of stress near crack tip is looked higher than of other zone, as crack length of equal model is longer, and as diameter of cylinder is longer. 4) When other conditions are equal, displacemenet near crack tip is looked duller, as length is longer.

The objective of the present paper is to investigate the bending behavior with stretching effect of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) beams. The beams resting on the Pasternak elastic foundation, including a shear layer and Winkler spring, are considered. The single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are aligned and distributed in polymeric matrix with different patterns of reinforcement. The material properties of the CNTRC beams are estimated by using the rule of mixture. The significant feature of this model is that, in addition to including the shear deformation effect and stretching effect it deals with only 4 unknowns without including a shear correction factor. The single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are aligned and distributed in polymeric matrix with different patterns of reinforcement. The material properties of the CNTRC beams are assessed by employing the rule of mixture. The equilibrium equations have been obtained using the principle of virtual displacements. The mathematical models provided in this paper are numerically validated by comparison with some available results. New results of bending analyses of CNTRC beams based on the present theory with stretching effect is presented and discussed in details. the effects of different parameters of the beam on the bending responses of CNTRC beam are discussed.

This paper describes a dynamic fracture behaviors of structural elements under elastic or elasto-plastic stress waves in two dimensional space. The governing equation of this problem has the type of hyperbolic partial differential equation, which consists of the equation of motions and incremental elasto-plastic constitutive equations. To solve this problem we introduce Zwas' method which is based on the finite difference method. Additionally, in order to deal with the dynamic behavior of elasto-plastic problems, an elasto-plastic loading path in the stress space is proposed to model the plastic yield phenomenon. Based on the result of this computation, the dynamic stress intensity factor at the crack tip of an elastic material is calculated, and the time history of a plastic zone of a elasto-plastic material is to be shown.

The elastic critical moment of I-beams subjected to moment is directly affected by the following factors; loading type; loading position with respect to the mid-height of the cross section; end restraint conditions. Most design specifications usually provide buckling solutions derived for uniform moment loading condition and account for variable moment along the unbraced length with a moment gradient correction factor applied to these solutions. In order for the method in the SSRC Guide to be applicable for singly symmetric I-beams, improved moment gradient correction factors were proposed in this study. Finite element buckling analyses of singly symmetric I-beams subjected to transverse loading applied at different heights with respect to the mid-height of the cross section were conducted. Transverse loads consisting of a mid-span point load and a uniformly distributed load were considered in the investigation.
The application of fracture mechanics is being increased gradually to assess the safety of welded structures containing crack. Fatigue crack propagation behavior and elastic-plastic fracture toughness J$_{IC}$ of home made flux cored wire(1.22mm) CO$_{2}$ weldments was discussed. Especially fatigue crack propagation test was carried out by .DELTA.K control instead of load control and elastic-plastic fracture toughness J$_{IC}$ was obtained by ASTM-R curve method on C.T.specimen in transverse direction of weldments. The results obtained are as follows; (1) Weld metal presented an almost complete similarity to base metal on fatigue crack propagation rate in transverse direction. (2) Weld metal was more than base metal on J$_{IC}$ value in transverse direction. (3) F.C.W. CO$_{2}$ weldments had an excellent characteristic of fatigue crack propagation rate and J$_{IC}$ in less than 50kg/mm$^{2}$ steel grade, this would result from that weld metal had good static strength.trength.

This study is undertaken for the vibration analysis of tapered thick plate with concentrated mass on elastic foundation. The boundary condition of the plate is analyzed with the 4-sides simply supported and 4-fixed basis. This study find out the frequency following the change in size for each foundational variable on Pasternak foundation, one of the two-parameter elastic foundation parameter that considered the shear layer to the Winkler foundation parameter. The concentrated mass is applied with the consideration of mass of the entire plate, and the change of frequency is studies on each location with the consideration of reacting for the three locations for concentrated mass. And, in order to find out the change of frequency on the thickness of the plate, it considered tapered ratio that linearly changes depending on the length of the plate with the thickness of the plate in x-direction, and the tapered ratio has changes with 4 types ($\alpha$=0.25, 0, 5, 0.75, and 1.0). For the interpretation, the program using finite element method (F.E.M.) is used and the element coordination is used the 8-node serendipity element. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find out the characteristics of plate vibration under the mechanica vibration or external vibration factor to facilitate as the basic data of the design to secure the stability.

In this paper, constraint-based fracture mechanics analyses of hollow cylinders with internal circumferential crack under tensile loading are conducted. Finite element analyses of the cracked cylinders are carried out to determine the fracture parameters including elastic T-stresses, and fully-plastic J-integrals. Linear elastic finite element analysis is conducted to obtain the T-stresses, and elastic-plastic analysis is conducted to obtain the fully plastic J-integrals. A wide range of cylinder geometries are studied, with cylinder radius ratios of $r_i/r_o$ = 0.2 to 0.8 and crack depth ratio a/t = 0.2 to 0.8. Fully plastic J-integrals are obtained for Ramberg-Osgood power law hardening material of n = 3, 5 and 10. These fracture parameters are then used to construct conventional and constraint-based failure assessment diagrams (FADs) to determine the maximum load carrying capacity of cracked cylinders. It is demonstrated that these tensile loaded cylinders with circumferential cracks are under low constraint conditions, and the load carrying capacity are higher when the low constraint effects are properly accounted for, using constraint-based FADs, comparing to the predictions from the conventional FADs.
The influence of prestress force on the fundamental frequency and static deflection shape of uncracked Prestressed Concrete (PC) beams with a parabolic bonded tendon was examined in this paper. Due to the conflicts among existing theories, the analytical solutions for properly considering the dynamic and static behavior of these members is not straightforward. A series of experiments were conducted for a total period of approximately 2.5 months on a PC beam made with high strength concrete, subsequently and closely to the 28 days of age of concrete. Specifically, the simply supported PC member was short term subjected to free transverse vibration and three-point bending tests during its early-age. Subsequently, the experimental data were compared with a model that describes the dynamic behavior of PC girders as a combination of two substructures interconnected, i.e., a compressed Euler-Bernoulli beam and a tensioned parabolic cable. It was established that the fundamental frequency of uncracked PC beams with a parabolic bonded tendon is sensitive to the variation of the initial elastic modulus of concrete in the early-age curing. Furthermore, the small variation in experimental frequency with time makes doubtful its use in inverse problem identifications. Conversely, the relationship between prestress force and static deflection shape is well described by the magnification factor formula of the "compression-softening" theory by assuming the variation of the chord elastic modulus of concrete with time.
