Considering the effects of confining pressure, initial shear stress, cyclic stress ratio and number of loading cycles, cyclic triaxial tests are carried out to clarify the soil dynamic properties such as shear modulus and value of material damping of clay under undrained cyclic loading conditions. The results show that no obvious dependency on initial shear stress and effective confining stress are recognized in the shear modulus and damping ratio plotted versus strain. However, the shear modulus decreases and the damping ratio increases with increasing axial strain. When compared with others, it is also revealed that the shear moduli are distributed within the range curves obtained using empirical equations derived by Marcuson et al. (3) and Kokusho et al. (4), and damping ratios are distributed between the curves obtained by Kokusho et al. (4) and Ishihara et al. (9).
SCP(Sand Compaction Pile) method that forms a composite ground by driving compacted sand piles into the soft ground. This method is one of the soil improvement techniques for reinforcing and strengthening soft ground deposits. This thesis describes the investigation on the behavior of soft ground reinforced with SCP by low improvement ratio. Direct shear test and consolidation test carried out to verified behavior of composite ground reinforced with SCP. Test results were discussed with reference to the amount of consolidation settlement, variation of shear resistance with area replacement ratio and effect of the stress concentration. And, laboratory model loading test carried out to verified the effect of the location and failure mode of reinforced embankment. Residual shear strength varies with the area replacement and constrict load in the low replacement ratio. Calculated stress concentration ratio overestimate than proposed valve by experimental, theoretical and analytical method. As regards the location, improving right below of the top of the slope was more effective than below of the toe of the slope. This thesis carried out to obtain fundamental information of behavior of the composit ground. Hereafter, centrifuge test that reproduce stress state of the in-situ must be necessary through the further study about pile penetration, reinforce position and construct time.
Redistribution of residual stress and its effects during fatigue crack propagates from tensile residual stress region in weldment are investigated. Tests are performed by using welded CCT specimens of structual rolling steel (SS400) and it makes fatigue crack propagate from tensile residual stress region. For this study tension-tension loading type is selected by external loading condition and magnetizing stress indicator is used correctly to measure redistribution of residual stress according to fatigue crack growth and number of loading cycles. From this result, it is proved that redistribution of residual stress is mainly consist of residual stress released by fatigue crack growth. When fatigue crack propagates from tensile residual stress region residual stress are redistributed and it makes fatigue crack growth rate largely increase. Fatigue crack growth rate is low in case of redistributed residual stress compare with initial distributed residual stress.
The present study is suggested to estimate the degree of secondary consolidation caused by various changes of stress such as loading, unloading and reloading in improving poor subsoil through pre-compression loading construction method and, for this purpose, examined the characteristics of the consolidation of Kunsan clay through incremental loading test (IL) using standard consolidation tester and constant loading rate test (CLR), which were adapted from the constant rate of strain test (CRS). In addition, after CRS test, this study determined the characteristics of secondary consolidation and relationships among void ratio, effective stress and time according to the ratio of effective over-consolidation on reloading at the point of time of random expansion. Kunsan clay had larger expansion and smaller secondary consolidation settlement when the ratio of effective over-consolidation was high. In addition, when loading was applied after the load was removed at once, the secondary consolidation coefficient $C'_{\alpha}$ was smaller than that when the load was removed gradually, and when the ratio of effective over-consolidation was over 1.4 a similar value was produced. Based on the entire settlement resulting from reloading, the secondary consolidation coefficient $C"_{\alpha}$ increased non-linearly with the lapse of time but the final value was similar to that in the case of rapid removal. The strain velocity of void ratio was in a regular linear relationship with the increase of loading time regardless of the ratio of effective over-consolidation in both tests and it grew smaller with the increase of the ratio of effective over-consolidation.tion.
Shear lag effect was a significant mechanical behavior of steel-concrete composite beams, and the effective flange width was needed to consider this effect. However, the effective flange width is mostly determined by static load test. The cyclic vehicle loading cases, which is more practical, was not well considered. This paper focuses on the study of shear lag effect of the concrete slab in the negative moment region under fatigue cyclic load. Two specimens of two-span steel-concrete composite beams were tested under fatigue load and static load respectively to compare the differences in the negative moment region. The reinforcement strain in the negative moment region was measured and the stress was also analyzed under different loads. Based on the OpenSees framework, finite element analysis model of steel-concrete composite beam is established, which is used to simulate transverse reinforcement stress distribution as well as the variation trends under fatigue cycles. With the established model, effects of fatigue stress amplitude, flange width to span ratio, concrete slab thickness and shear connector stiffness on the shear lag effect of concrete slab in negative moment area are analyzed, and the effective flange width ratio of concrete slab under different working conditions is calculated. The simulated results of effective flange width are compared with calculated results of the commonly used specifications, and it is found that the methods in the specifications can better estimate the shear lag effect in concrete slab under static load, but the effective flange width in the negative moment zone under fatigue load has a large deviation.
This study was to know the effects of massage on the back region in order to reduce stress in middle age women. To investigate the effects of massage to the stress levels of middle aged women, we evaluated blood pressure (BP), heart rate variability (HRV), and ultrasonography before and after back massage. The blood pressure after massage was reduced when compared to that of pre-massage. The HRV spectrum analysis was used Frequency domain analysis such as Mean HRV, normalized low frequency (norm LF), norm high frequency (norm HF), and LF/HF ratio. Post-massage BP tended to be low, but not statistical significant. After Massage, the Mean HRV, norm LF, and LF/HF ratio were significantly reduced, while norm HF was significantly increased as compared with pre-massage. The muscle layer and fat layer were significantly diminished by massage. The study was suggested that massage may be an effective treatment for relief of stress.
Although various methods for determination of damage threshold in rock have been suggested, clear damage thresholds were determined by some methods, but different thresholds were measured by other methods. We determined the damage thresholds in Hangdeung granite using all the methods suggested, and investigated the best methods, applicability and errors of each method. The crack initiation threshold and the crack damage threshold which are important in investigation of characteristics of crack development and failure were verified by field strength ratio method and long-term constant load test. The crack closure stress and the crack initiation stress were 57.5 MPa and 77.6 MPa, and the most exact values were yielded by crack volumetric strain. The secondary crack initiation stress was 90.6 MPa and AE event count and AE event count rate were the effective methods. The volumetric stiffness, AE event count and AE event count rate were the most effective methods for determination of crack coalescence threshold and crack coalescence stress was 110.3 MPa. The crack damage stress was 127.5 MPa and was measured correctly by volumetric stiffness and AE event count rate. The ratio between crack initiation stress and uniaxial compressive strength was 0.47 which was very similar with the FSR value of 0.46. The ratio between crack damage stress and uniaxial compressive strength was almost the same as the ratio between long-term strength and uniaxial compressive strength, indicating that the crack initiation stress and the crack damage stress measured were correct.
Continuous loading is applied the sample has been developed to overcome some of the problems associated with the incremental loading consolidation test. Therefore, it is able to reduce the test time and provide a well defined the curve of effective stress versus strain due to continuous stress-strain points. Also, the constant rate of strain consolidation(CRSC) test has been accepted widely as a standard method in foreign countries because of its many advantages. However, in Korea the CRSC test has not been used in engineering practice and experimentally verified. Because there is not a precise criterion of testing despite consolidation characteristics are influenced on strain rate and Pore pressure ratio. Consequently, it is difficult to apply in engineering practice. In this study, artificial neural networks are applied to the estimation of th proper strain rate and pore pressure ratio of the CRSC test. This study shows the possibility of utilizing the artificial neural networks model of estimation of the strain rate and pore pressure ratio in the CRSC test.
Fatigue crack propagation life of weld toe crack through residual stress field was estimated with Elber's crack concept. Propagation of weld toe crack is heavily influenced by residual stress caused by welding process, so it is essential to take into account the effect of residual stress on the propagation life of weld toe crack. Fatigue crack at transverse and longitudinal weld toe was studied respectively, which represent typical weld joint in ship structure. Numerical and experimental studies are performed for both cases. Residual stress near weldment was estimated through nonlinear thermo-elasto-plastic finite element method, and residual stress intensity factor with Glinka's weight function method. Effective stress intensity factor was calculated with Newman-Forman-de Koning-Henriksen equation which is based on Dugdale strip yield model in estimating crack closure level U at different stress ratio. Calculated crack propagation life coincided well with experimental results.
In this study, undrained shear test was performed$K_o$ consolidation in order to study the shear strength characteristics of oysters-marine clay mixtures for three mixed ratios(0%, 25% and 50%). And, in order to study shear strength characteristics of oysters-marine clay mixtures, three different effective vertical stresses(200, 300 and 400kPa) were applied for the $K_o$ consolidation tests. In addition three different axial strain rates(0.005%/min, 0.05%/min, 0.5%/min) were applied for the case of effective vertical stress, 300kPa. According to experimental results, the more mixed ratios were increased, the more deviator stress was increased by crushing effect of oysters particles. especially, when effective vertical stress is 300kPa and mixed ratio increase from 25% to 50%, Test shows the increase of shear strength. But axial strain rate was not effect on the undrained shear strength. In the comparison and analysis that are based on the values of tests on the oysters-marine clay mixtures and the Mayne & Bishop's empiric formula, the undrained shear strength ratio shows a similar pattern of the tests. But for the prediction of the coefficient of the pore water pressure, the value of empiric formula shows more overestimated than the values of the tests at 0%, mixture ratio.
