  • The parameters in the Horton's model which has well known as typical infiltration model were determined by the use of the optimization technique. It was assumed the initial infiltration capacity in this model was related to the antecedent precipitation per 10 days with linear combination. And both the parameters of the ultimate infiltration capacity and the decay factor were determined uniquely on a basin. Thus the optimal model's parameters representative to a basin were obtained and the Horton's infiltration equations by rainstorm events were determined. The data of ten rainstorm events for this study were observed at the Jeonjeokbigyo station located at the Selmacheon experimental basin that was $8.5km^2$ wide in the Imjin river.

  • TiO2 is a versatile metal oxide material that is frequently used as a photo-catalyst for organic pollutant oxidation and a functional material for ultraviolet-ray protection. To improve its chemical/physical properties and widen the range of industrial application, it is demanded to control the crystalline feature and morphology precisely by applying advanced nano-synthesis methods. In this study, we prepared TiO2 nanoparticles using the water-in-oil (W/O) microemulsion method and compared them with the particles synthesized by the conventional precipitation method. Also, we tried to find the optimum conditions for obtaining nano-sized, anatase-rich TiO2 particles by the W/O microemulsion method. We analyzed the crystalline feature and particle size of the prepared samples using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In summary, we found the W/O microemulsion is more effective than precipitation in obtaining nano-sized TiO2. The best result was derived when the microemulsion was formed using AOT surfactant, hydrolysis was performed under basic condition and the sample was calcined at 200℃.

  • Distributed hydrologic models typically require spatial estimates of precipitation interpolated from sparsely located observational points to the specific grid points. However, widely used estimation schemes fail to describe the realistic variability of daily precipitation field. We compare and contrast the performance of statistical methods for the spatial estimation of precipitation in two hydrologically different basins, and propose a two-step process for effective daily precipitation estimation. The methods assessed are: (1) Inverse Distance Weighted Average (IDW); (2) Multiple Linear Regression (MLR); (3) Climatological MLR; and (4) Locally Weighted Polynomial Regression (LWP). In the suggested simple two-step estimation process, precipitation occurrence is first generated via a logistic regression model before applying IDW scheme (one of the local scheme) to estimate the amount of precipitation separately on wet days. As the results, the suggested method shows the better performance of daily rainfall interpolation which has spatial differences compared with conventional methods. And this technique can be used for streamflow forecasting and downscaling of atmospheric circulation model effectively.

  • Smelting reduction of spent lithium-ion batteries results in metallic alloys, slag, and dust containing Li(I). Precipitation of Li2CO3 was performed using the synthetic leachate of the dust. Herein, the effects of the precipitant and addition of non-aqueous solvents on the precipitation of Li(I) were investigated. Na2CO3 was a more effective precipitating agent than (NH4)2CO3 owing to the hydrolysis reaction of dissolved ammonium and carbonate. The addition of acetone or ethanol improved the Li(I) precipitation percentage for both the precipitants. When using (NH4)2CO3, the Li(I) precipitation percentage increased at a solution pH of 12. Under the same conditions, the Li(I) precipitation percentage using Na2CO3 was much higher than that using (NH4)2CO3.

  • An effective purification method was developed for producing Homoharringtonine (HHT), to guarantee high purity and yield from Cephalotaxus koreana. This process was a simple and efficient procedure, for the isolation and purification of HHT form the biomass of Cephalotaxus koreana, consisting of extract, adsorbent treatment, precipitation and followed by a chromatography. The extraction, adsorbent treatment and precipitation in pre-purification process allows for rapid and efficient separation of HHT from many compound and dramatically increases the yield and purity of crude HHT for HPLC purification steps compared to alternative processes. This purification processes serves to minimize solvent usage, size, and complexity of the operations for HHT purification.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop the technique of heavy metal removal from wastewater. The research is divided into two parts, one part uses complex precipitation and the other uses adsorption. In the first part of the study, humic acid is used as the complex agent, humic acid is a polyelectrolyte with a high complexation affinity. Lead, copper, zinc and cadmium were studied for their complex precipitation efficiencies. In the batch studies, humic acid was effective in removing 100% of the lead and 48.2% of the copper respectively from wastewater without anytreatment. The efficiency of cadmium and zinc, however, was very low. In the second part of the study, wastewater is introduced at the top of a silicagel adsorption column and then bottom effluent concentration is analyzed. The results of the analysis are used to draw a breakthrough curve.

  • This paper examines the effect of nitride formation on formability for Cu bearing high strength extra low carbon (ELC) steel sheets. For this purpose, we have investigated the effect of addition of aluminium (Al) and boron (B) on texture and precipitation behavior of the ELC steel during continuous annealing. Mechanical properties and microstructures of the ELC steel sheets were analyzed as well using uni-axial tensile test, electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) technique and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) following pilot rolling and continuous annealing. It has been found that the addition of Al and B increases the precipitation of AlN and BN. What is more, the scavange of solute nitrogen is effective in increasing the formability of the ELC steels. In addition, the Al and B addition improves the aging property of the ELC steel.

  • Niobium microalloying is effective in hot-rolled and cold-rolled steels by providing a fine-grained microstructure resulting in increased strength. To optimize the strengthening effect, alloy design and hot-rolling conditions have to be adapted. As a key issue the dissolution and precipitation characteristics of Nb are discussed in particular with regard to the run-out table conditions. It is then considered how the hot-rolled microstructure and the solute state of Nb interact with the hot-dip galvanizing cycle. The adjusted conditions allow controlling the morphology and distribution of phases in the cold-rolled annealed material. Additional precipitation hardening can be achieved as well. The derived options can be readily applied to produce conventional HSLA and IF high strength steels as well as to modern multiphase steels. It will be explained how important application properties such as strength, elongation, bendability, weldability and delayed cracking resistance can be influenced in a controlled and favorable way. Examples of practical relevance and experience are given.

  • The assessment for a degree of drought has been carried out based on the soil moisture index in Korea. The soil moisture index(Im) was calculated assuming of constant evapotranspiration until wilting point as Im = w2/wf $.$100. The soil moisture content(W2) at the final of a period is obtained from W2 : Pe + Wl - E, here the effective precipitation amount is Pe, evapotranspiration E, and the soil moisture content at the beginning of a period is Wl. The filed capacity(Wf), as a mean value of fine sandy loams, was reduced to 92 mm/ft when we accept the wilting point and the available soil moisture content of 42 mm/ft, respectively. The drought begins in Korea when the soil moisture index drops to less than 50%. The value coincides the isoline of 11 or more consecutive days without measureable precipitation. The soil moisture index frequently drops in the northern part of Youngnam area and Honam area so that both areas are well known as the areas of drought. Key word : Droughts, Soil Moisture Index.

  • Visible-light-driven wide bandgap semiconductor photocatalysts were commonly developed via doping or coupling with another narrow bandgap metal oxide. However, these approaches required extra processing. The aim of study was to evaluate the photocatalytic performance of narrow bandgap $WO_x$ nanoparticles. A mixture of $WO_2$ and $WO_3$ nanoparticles were synthesized using solution precipitation technique. The photodegradation of RhB by these nanoparticles more effective in UV light than in visible light. In antibacterial susceptibility assay, $WO_x$ nanoparticles demonstrated good antibacterial against Gram-positive bacteria. The cell wall of bacterial was the main determinant in antibacterial effect other than $W^{4+}/W^{6+}$ ions and ROS.
