  • Objectives : To develop a tool for multidimensional measurement of the quality of life, which was psychometrically sound, short, and easy to administer for patients with hypertension. Methods : A sample of 1,115 hypertensive patients aged 20 or above in Cheong-Song County was studied from June 1997 to October 1998. In the development of the instrumental stage, the authors first conceptualized the quality of life. Item generation, item reduction, and questionnaire formatting were followed. Item-level (item descriptive, missing%, item internal consistency, item discriminant validity) analysis, scale-level (scale descriptive, floor and ceiling effect) analysis, and other tests(Cronbach's alpha, inter-dimension correlations, factor analysis, clinical validity) were performed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the new measurement scale. After 1 year, responsiveness and confirmatory factor analysis were performed. Results : The results of both item-level and scale-level analyses were acceptable. An acceptable degree of internal consistency was observed for each of the dimensions (Cronbach's alpha was 0.60 or higher). Inter-dimension correlations were below 0.50 and the factor analysis result was the same as the intended dimension structure. Correlation coefficients between perceived health status, stress and dimensions were proven to be acceptable. The result of comparing dimensional score means among ADL and MMSE-K groups above 60 years was statistically significant(p<0.05). The result of confirmatory factor analysis concluded that the dimensional structure model was well fitted. However, the result of responsiveness test using sensitivity and specificity was unsatisfactory. Conclusions : The newly developed measurement scale is psychometrically reliable and valid instrument for measuring quality of life in hypertensive patients.

  • Flocculation kinetics using ferric nitrate as a coagulant to coagulate kaolin clay in water was examined as a tool to investigate the effect of low temperature under tightly controlled treatment conditions. Both the particle size distribution data obtained from Automatic Image Analysis (AIA) system and the on-line measurement of the degree of turbidity fluctuation in a flowing suspension by Photometric Dispersion Analyzer (PDA) were used to measure flocculation kinetics. Results show that cold water temperature had a pronounced detrimental effect on flocculation kinetics. For improving flocculation kinetics at low water temperature, maintaining constant pOH to adjust water chemistry for temperature changes was found to be partially effective only in the more acidic pH range studied.

  • The objective of this study was to verify the effects of brand equity of small & medium hospitals on trust and relationship commitment and mediation effect of trust in the relation between brand equity and relationship commitment. For testing reliability and validity of the measurement tool, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ and confirmatory factor analysis was used, respectively. A structural equation model was applied for verifying the study model suggested. Out of 450 questionnaires distributed, 439 was returned. On the study results, brand image and perceived quality positively determined trust of customers for small & medium hospitals. Customers' trust also has a positive effect on relationship commitment. Brand awareness positively influence the levels of relationship commitment. Moreover, a mediation effect was identified. Customers' trust mediated the effects of brand image and perceived quality on relationship commitment of hospitals customers. On conclusions, relationship commitment was determined, either directly or indirectly, by brand image and perceived quality, while trust mediated the their relationship. Thus, hospitals management may use the concepts of brand equity and trust as a key success factor of their business purposes.

  • Due to recent increased air traffic,, air traffic controllers in charge of en-route and approach control have faced huge increase in both workload and its intensity. The purpose of this paper is to analyze how much safety culture of air traffic controllers has effect on their complexity mitigation strategies during their duties. It could be expected complexity mitigation improve air traffic flow resulting in enhancing safety eventually. According to empirical analysis against air traffic controllers in civil aviation and air force in South Korea, it was proven safety culture had a statistically positive effect on complex mitigation strategies through safety behavior. In safety culture among air traffic controllers, intrinsic culture had a positive effect on extrinsic value of safety culture. Intrinsic value of safety culture led to air traffic controllers' safety behavior which created work complexity mitigation strategies. Among work complexity mitigation strategies, communication and cooperation was proven to be the most important factor effected by safety culture and behavior. It was implied that enhancing the intrinsic values of safety culture would cause to improve extrinsic safety culture and air traffic controller's work efficiency.

  • Purpose: We aimed to analyze the effect of fixation tightness of the syndesmotic screw and its indwelling period on the recurrence of the syndesmosis widening after screw removal and the clinical outcomes. Materials and Methods: Forty consecutive patients with acute syndesmotic injury were retrospectively reviewed. The tibiofibular clear space is measured by digitalized measurement tool on serial radiographs. We analyzed the effect of time from trauma to fixation, syndesmotic screw indwelling duration, and fixation methods. Residual symptoms at the last follow up were evaluated. The student t-test, correlation test, and chi-square test were used for statistical analysis. Results: Eighteen ankles (45%) had recurrent syndesmosis widening (greater than 5% compared to the contralateral side). Seven patients had pain and five had limitation of motion in the ankle joint. Fixation tightness had significant effect on reducing the recurrence while the severity of the initial widening, time to fixation, and duration of fixation did not affect the outcome. Conclusion: Tight fixation of syndesmotic screw is essential for achieving final syndesmotic stability and reducing recurrence.

  • An experimental investigation was performed to study the characteristics of ER(Electro-Rheological) fluid flow in a horizontal rectangular tube with or without D.C voltage. To determine some characteristics of the ER flow, 2D PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) technique is employed for velocity measurement. This research found the mean velocity distribution with 0kV/mm, 1.0kV/mm and 1.5kV/mm for Re = 0, 0.62, 1.29 and 2.26. When the strength of the electric field increased, the cluster of ERF are clearly strong along the test tube and the flow rate decreased. In this study, the rheology of ER fluid stagnating or flowing through a dispersion meter will be investigated by PIV method. And then the ER effect, which appears at the ER valves and their appliance will be visualized.

  • In this paper, an oil hydraulic pipeline is terminated by both rotary sinusoidal flow generator at upstream oriffice at down stream. The pulsating pressure wave from generated by the rotary sinusoidal flow generator, is measured by using sensor. In the analysis of this paper, a component of the fundamental frequency is obtained by using Laplace transformation.. The experimental and analytical results make clear that (1) viscosity is significant role in hydraulic pipe. (2) When pulsating frequency is matched with the natural frequency, resonance frequency occured periodically. According to the study proposed here, dynamic pressure in a circular oil pipe is expressed in propagation of pressure wave with respect to frequency and Bessel function. The resonance at oil temperature $20^{\circ}$$0^{\circ}C$ in this study. The abrupt change of gain value is due to effect of resonance frequency. The results of experiment are compared with the calculated results, and agreement of both results is fairly good.
