  • TIG welding enables to produce high quality weldment. However it has some problems such as shallow penetration and large distortion due to low penetration aspect ratio after welding. In order to overcome those problems, there are many ongoing studies on A-TIG welding, which use active flux. In this study, the effect of arc length and shield gas on penetration aspect ratio with melt-run welding on STS 304 6t, on which active flux was spreaded, was investigated. Arc length was changed from 1mm to 3mm, and aspect ratio became higher as arc length was decreased in this range. 100% Ar gas, Ar-$H_2$ mixed gas, Ar-He mixed gas, and 100% He gas were used as shield gas in this study. When Ar-$H_2$ mixed gas, Ar-He mixed gas, and 100% He gas were applied, penetration and melting efficiency were both increased as compared with 100% Ar gas. Aspect ratio was the highest with Ar-2.5% $H_2$ mixed gas.

  • An experimental study is performed to observe the characteristics of the thrust vectoring control (TVC) of the supersonic jet using proportional control valves. It is observed that three different TVC characteristics exist as the nozzle pressure ratio varies. Strong hysteresis phenomena are also observed during the valve control for a certain range of the nozzle pressure ratio. It is also noticed that the secondary chamber pressure is one of the influencing parameters for the TVC. Therefore, a control algorithm utilizing the secondary chamber pressure coefficient as a predictor is applied to achieve the stable TVC avoiding the hysteresis. Consequently, the stable TVC with the maximum deflection angle of about 20-degree has been realized using the proportional control valves.

  • Nitric oxide (NO) has been 3mown as a mediator of nonadrenergic, noncholinergic inhibitory neurotransmitter in intestinal smooth muscles. It has been suggested that NO donor such as sodium nitroprusside (SNP) produces relaxation of smooth muscle via activation of guanylate cyclase and elevation of cGMP levels. We have therefore investigated the effects of NO, using SNP, on muscle tension in the longitudinal smooth muscle of guinea-pig ileum. The possible role of cGMP was also investigated as well as the involvement of $K^+$ channel on SNP-induced inhibitory effect. The results are summarized as follows; high KCI-or CCh-activated contractions were inhibited by SNP in a concentration-dependent manner. 8-Br-cGMP also showed a similar effect in that of SNP TEA (1 mM) significantly reduced the SNP-induced inhibitory effect. SNP-induced effect was forther reduced by the presence of 10 mM TEA. On the other hand, 4-AP (0.1 mM), glibenclamide $(10\;{\mu}M)$ and apinain $(0.1\;{\mu}M)$ showed little effects on SNP-induced relaxation. Zaprinast significantly potentiated the SNP-induced inhibitory effect in all ranges. ODQ also significantly decreased the SNP-induced inhibitory effect. Pretreatment with CPA $(10\;{\mu}M)$ slightly reduced the SNP-induced inhibitory effect. From the above results, both effect mediated by NO and cGMP might be responsible for the activation of $Ca^{2+}$-activated $K^+$ channel by SNP in guinea-rig ileum. And this $K^+$ channel activation by SNP also contributes to the SNP-induced membrane hyperpolarization and relaxation.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the combined effect of L-arginine supplementation and regular physical exercise on HR, BP, eNOS and Macrophage activation using SHR. To examine the differences among HR, BP, eNOS, and Macrophage activity levels, normotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats were used as a control. Thirty two male rats (six weeks old) were divided into four groups; eight WKY control (WKYC), eight SHR control (SHRC), eight SHR supplemented with L-arginine (SHRA), and eight SHR trained and supplemented with L-arginine (SHRTA). Obtained results were as follows : In the heart and blood pressure, there was significant differences anong the four group (p<.05) compare to SHRC. In the eNOS levels, there was significant differences among the four groups (p<.05) compare to SHRC. In the macrophage activity, there was significant differences among the four groups (p<.05) compare to SHRC. In conclusion, For the SHRC group, the level of eNOS is higher than that of WKYC, and we can expect tissue damage caused by toxic free radical. However, this can be stabilized by the L-arginine supplementation and regular physical training. we can also conclude regular aerobic training decrease cardiovascular stress caused by stabled macrophage activity. Therefore, we can trace it is the effect of training in SHR.

  • The fine particulate matter($PM_{10}$) concentrations and contents were measured to check the health and environment influential factors in Pohang Iron and Steel Industrial Complex and its vicinities. In addition, the $PM_{10}$ distribution for each year and season was surveyed using the regional air quality monitoring stations. The measuring on the $PM_{10}$ inside the industrial complex showed $61.3{\pm}12.1{\mu}g/m^3$ for average concentration of $PM_{10}$ which was measured by Dongil Industry and $44.3{\pm}8.1{\mu}g/m^3$ measured by steel manufacturing industry complex management office. Both of them satisfied the environmental air quality standard. The percentage of $SO_4{^2}$, $NO_3{^-}$, $NH_4{^+}$ which are the secondary ions created out of the $PM_{10}$ in Dongil Industry and steel manufacturing industry complex management office was checked and it was revealed that the percentage of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ was high and it is considered that the pollution source related with the sulfides exist at the industrial complex. They were in order of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ > $Cl^-$ > $NO_3{^-}$ > $F^-$ > $NH_4{^+}$ in Dongil Industry and ${SO_4}^{2-}$ > $Cl^-$ > $NO_3{^-}$ > $NH_4{^+}$ > $F^-$ in steel manufacturing industry complex management office.
