Development of an Educational Tangible Coding Tools for Algorithmic Thinking Focused on Programming Activities (알고리즘적 사고 중심 프로그래밍 활동을 위한 교육용 텐저블 코딩 도구 개발)

  • Software education is required from elementary schools to prepare students for the fourth industrial revolution, which aims to improve algorithmic thinking. In general, teaching is divided into two stages: using a flowchart to design algorithms and implementing them through programming. However, converting a flowchart into code and checking the results in an educational programming tool is time consuming and requires additional programming activities. This study proposes a tangible coding tool that enables elementary students to convert algorithms designed at the unplugged activity into educational programming tool codes. This tool was developed in order for students to design algorithms at the level of assembling paper blocks and input them into a programming tool by taking a picture. Sixth graders were participated in this activity to evaluate its usability.

The Changes of Self-efficacy Beliefs of Pre-service Teachers for Technology Integration through Programming-based TPACK Educational Program

  • In this paper, we propose the effects of programming-based TPACK educational program on the pre-service teacher's self-efficacy beliefs for technology integration. For this study, pre-service teachers who received programming education and TPACK education based on ICT were set as control group and pre-service teachers who received programming-based TPACK education as experimental group. In order to observe the change, the pre-service teachers conducted the test tool to measure the self-efficacy beliefs for technology integration before and after applying the educational program. As a result of the study, only the pre-service teachers who received the programming-based TPACK education showed significant improvement in the self-efficacy beliefs for technology integration. Furthermore, in the post-test, the experimental group showed a significantly higher difference than the control group. Through this study, it was concluded that programming-based TPACK educational program is effective in enhancing pre-service teacher's self-efficacy beliefs for technology integration.

Development and Application of Robot Task using Tangible Programming Tool for Elementary Students (텐지블 프로그래밍 도구를 활용한 논리적 사고력기반의 초등 로봇 과제 개발 및 적용)

  • Recently, programming education is being actively performed in education field with development of educational programming language and teaching and learning methods for elementary students. However, programming education have limit to apply to the overall computer science curriculum, because it is performed by more than 5th grade and focused on the utilization of programming tools than problem-solving process. It is necessary to expand the range of students and educational content considered with problem-solving process for encouraging programming education in computer science. In this study, we suggest the easy-to-use programming tool for lower grade(1st grade) and robot programming task based on improvement of student's thinking ability. We use Tangible User Interface(TUI) for elementary student's(1st grade) convenience of programming and developed the robot programming task for improvement of logical thinking. As a result of this experiment, tangible programming tool can be used easily in elementary students(1st grade) and developed robot programming task is effective in improvement of logical thinking.

The Development of an Educational Robot and Scratch-based Programming

  • Scratch-based programming has come to be known as an effective programming tool because of its graphic instruction modules, which are designed to be assembled like the famous LEGO building blocks. These building block-like structures allow users to more easily program applications without using other more difficult programming languages such as C or Java, which are text-based. Therefore, it poses a good opportunity for application in educational settings, especially in primary schools. This paper presents an effective approach to developing an educational robot for use in elementary schools. Furthermore, we present the method for scratch programming based on the external modules need for the implementation of robot motion. Lastly, we design a systematic curriculum, titled "Play with a Robot," and propose guidelines to using the educational programming language Scratch.

  • The main aim in software education is to improve problem-solving ability based on computational thinking with the healthy information ethics. For this purpose, many institutions have attempted various educational programs such as Educational Programming Language, Physical Computing, and Robot education. However, it is possible to obscure the essence of computer education for computational thinking if the computer education focuses on using certain special education programming language and products. Therefore, this paper suggests a method of algorithm education using RAPTOR which is a visual programming development environment and is based on flowcharts. In order to verify the effectiveness of the algorithms education using the RAPTOR, 16 high-school students were applied to an educational program for twelve hours on five steps and then we obtained positive results.

  • The utilization of robots in programming education students the interest and motivation of learning. But at the same time the robot is required that understanding of the structure and understand the internal program(programming). So what problems are caused by error or if the student has difficulty identifying. The purpose of this study is the use of simulation tool in robot programming education possibilities will want to see. Elementary school students to analyze the possibility of non-simulation tool and simulation tool was applied. And usability evaluation and simulation tool, the survey recognized the potential of the education were analyzed. As a result, the usability of between simulation tool and non-simulation tool and there was no difference. And student can preview the results of programming and simulation tool can easily identify errors for recognizing the positive respectively. Based on this results, simulation tool can be utilized in robot education.

  • Educational programming languages help learners to easily understand and use computer system itself. They also enhance the reasoning power and the contemplative faculty of learners. However, in spite of the importance of educational programming languages in education, there has not been much research and development on them compared with general purpose programming languages. In this paper, we propose and examine a new educational programming environment TWo (Turtle World) which is designed for learners to utilize the recent information technologies. Aimed at being used as a learning and working tool for multimedia programming and processing, TWo is a web-based reflective object-oriented Hangul programming environment which provides each learner with the learning environment according to his intellectual ability to learn.

  • Programming tools are essential for students learning numerical analysis. It is troublesome to go to a laboratory where a computer is located after taking a lecture. Nowadays most students have mobile phones which can be used for programming practice through the Internet. PHP is a server-side scripting language designed for web development but also used as a general-purpose programming language. However, PHP has many inconveniences, such as adding a dollar symbol ($) to every varable. This paper introduces a slightly modified language, NAPHP, and a system which is designed for students to use their own mobile phone to write down the language NAPHP and run it on the web page. The system NAPHP-SYS is an educational tool that turns NAPHP into PHP, run PHP code and show the results on the web.

  • To enhance the educational effect of Multi-Joint Robot have to easily develop motion through the control software. The traditional way of development technique for multi-joint robot is educated with very complicated implementation, but our motion creation tool can be possible to do the creative activity for controling robot movements with ease. This paper mentions to develop the motion creation tool for easily and quickly programming the motion control of multi-joint robot on the educational program. With this tool we easily and exactly provide the education of robot program. In this paper, our suggested tool could not only evade the traditional way of a complicated control program using programming languages but also control easier the robot than the GUI(Graphic User Interface) programming centered on the user's convenience. Additionally, the robot motion's implementation is possible applied with microprocessor experimental equipment educationally to practical use.
