  • Purpose: To investigate disaster safety education and the safety awareness of Korean high school students following the Sewol ferry incident. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 1022 high school students in Korea from September 7 to 26, 2015. The questionnaire comprised questions pertaining to the general characteristics of the subjects, disaster safety education, and safety awareness, which were measured on a four-point Likert. Results: The majority of the students recognized the necessity of disaster safety education ($3.12{\pm}0.61$); however, most did not know where safety devices were located. After the Sewol ferry incident, awareness of disaster safety education was $2.11{\pm}0.64$, and the necessity of education was relatively low. More than half the students (53.5%) responded that disaster safety education must be conducted in professional education facilities. Conclusion: It is important to develop and implement regular disaster safety education for high school students in professional education facilities.

It selected 10 elementary schools under the supervision of Jeonnam Board of Education and sampled 700 students randomly from 2-3 classes in the 5th and the 6th grade. Data of this study were collected by explaining the purport of study to subjects after obtaining approval of principal and teacher of the school and distributing questionnaires. Total 700 questionnaires were distributed and 681 were collected (97%) and 602 were used for final analysis except 79 lacking responses. The results of this study are as follows. • Effective leadership in safety performance, such as safety leadership, has received attention as a factor that greatly affects safety performance in various high-risk industrial environments. Based on prior research, this study aims to analyze the impact relationship between safety leadership, safety observance, safety education, and safety culture to reveal the effectiveness of safety leadership. In addition, this study will examine the effects of safety leadership on safety observance and safety education to identify the effects of safety understanding. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with employees of an aviation manufacturing company in Gyeongnam. For verification, a positive factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation analysis were conducted using the AMOS 21.0 program. This study's findings show that, first, safety leadership has a positive and significant impact on safety observance and safety education. Second, safety leadership was found to have a direct impact on organizations' safety culture. Third, although safety observance has significant positive effects on safety culture, safety education has often been rejected. Finally, after verifying the control effect of safety understanding, this study uncovered the presence of an adjustment effect in the effect of safety leadership on safety observance. Therefore, based on the results of this study, theoretical and practical implications suggest that through the exercise of safety leadership, managers can improve their organizations' safety culture by increasing organizations' compliance with safety observance and/or acceptance of safety education.

Regarding cases of having experienced job-related accident or having been exposed to job-related disease over the past 1 year, 17.0% of total respondents have experienced accident and 21.3% have experienced job-related disease. Preventive education for occupational safety is required to be expanded and strengthened. Except caregiver, the proportion of having received an information and education for safety rules and hazardous factors. Safety education is urgently required in order to prevent and reduce accident. • The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes and performing confidence, and factors influencing patient safety of dental hygiene students. The questionnaire contained items on the subjects' general characteristics, attitudes, and performing confidence in relation to patient safety. The self-reported questionnaire was administered to 287 dental hygiene students in Gwangju and Jeonnam, Korea from September to November 2017. We performed an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using IBM SPSS ver. 21.0 software. As a result of differences in attitude, and performing confidence according to the general characteristics, attitude toward patient safety scored 3.48 out of 5 points, and was more positive in students from 4-year colleges, with high major satisfaction, and in students who answered that they needed patient safety education. Performing confidence for patient safety scored 3.57 out of 5 points, and was statistically significantly higher in 4-year college students, with higher major satisfaction, amongst those with experience in patient safety education, and when patient safety education was needed before clinical practice or employment. There were positive correlations between attitude and performing confidence for patient safety. As a result of analyzing the factors influencing attitude and performing confidence for patient safety, attitudes were higher with higher performing confidence and performing confidence had the highest satisfaction rate of the major and patient safety education experience. Therefore, it is necessary to provide systematic education at universities reflecting the characteristics of dental medical institutions, as well as developing various education contents and education methods.

  • This study investigated the effectiveness of traffic safety education by integrated activities on children's traffic safety knowledge. Subjects were 55 kindergarten children aged 5 years old. The subjects were divided into experimental and control groups. Traffic safety education by integrated activities were applied in the experimental group for 6 weeks. The traffic safety knowledge test was administered to the experimental and control groups for pre-test and post-test analyses. ANCOVA was carried out for both groups to verify the hypothesis of this study. There were statistically significant differences of the children's traffic safety knowledge score including walking, bike, and automobile between the experimental and control groups. To conclude, traffic safety education by integrated activities was very effective to increase children's traffic safety knowledge.

  • It is provided that the seaman should be educated and trained by basic fire-fighting to save the life and protect asset at sea by the STCW(The International Convention on Standard for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping). The designated seaman's safety educational institution which is specified in the nation has held a basic and advanced fire-fighting education for the seaman. The interest of safety at sea has been increasing due to recent huge maritime disaster and there is a tendency to strengthen the safety education for the seaman in the nation. For the effective fire-fighting education for the seaman, the appropriate educational content and facilities are required. Moreover, It is necessary to apply an effective education and training methods for achieving the goal. Unfortunately, this paper has not perfectly been conducted to improve effective safety training in the designated educational institutions which held the seaman's maritime safety educations. From now on, we should consider the effective educational ways for the seaman. The purpose of this paper is to develop the education and training model of STCW seaman's fire-fighting education through the reviewing the status of safety education in the nation.

  • This study has focused on the transfer of infants and Toddlers-protecting responsibilities from families to infants and Toddlers education agencies due to an increase of a double-income family and nuclear family. It is because there is insufficient safe play space from the moment when infants and Toddlers return from infants and Toddlers education agencies to home due to a high crowding of housing and increase of vehicle, and there can be difficulties to take responsibilities of infants and Toddlers safety with a mere recognition and effort of parent. Thus, to suggest a safety education through mutual contact between the communities and agencies supporting parent role in a level of social welfare, its potential has been identified through a frequency analysis on 60 participants of experimental group who have trained a safety education and 60 participants of control group who have not trained a safety education. As a result of frequency analysis, the increase in safety condition in Korea, safety and development of infants and Toddlers, safety of play materials, and safety knowledge on general part of facility safety has detected and the practice of safety and safety consciousness has also identified to be more effective. The results of this study has shown a potential to verify its efficacy if it is verified through an elaborative model of safety education based on parents of young infants and Toddlers family.
