  • The CAI (Computer-Assisted Instruction) system for science teaching has been increasing both in quantity and in quality during the last two decades. However, science learning by computer has not played a leading role in the science teaching process. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of tutorial CAI programs according to the learner's characteristics such as sex, inquiry skills, attitudes toward science subject, logical thinking skills, achievement motivation, science content achievement in science teaching. One group pretest-posttest design was used as an experimental design. The three tutorial science CAI programs were used for thirty males and females selected in grade eight. According to the analysis of CAI achievement scores the female students showed significantly higher (P<0.05) than the male students. Also, one-way analysis of variance was used to investigate the effects of interaction between sex and achievement motivation. The significant difference on the effects of interaction between sex and achievement motivation has not found. The effects of tutorial CAI between logical thinking skills, attitudes toward science subject, inquiry skills, achievement motivation, science content achievement according to upper and lower levels were investigated by using the statistical analysis of one-way ANOVA. The results indicate that tutorial CAI might provides a good opportunities for the improvement of science achievement to the lower level students of attitudes toward science subject, inquiry skills, science content achievement.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation among family environment variables, self-esteem, family strengths, and achievement motivation. This subjects were the 467 middle school students living in Gwangju. Data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. The major findings were as follows; First, adolescents' self-esteem, family strengths, and achievement motivation scores were higher than median(3.00). Second, the male adolescents' achievement motivation showed significant positive correlation with standard of living, self-esteem, and family strengths. The female adolescents' achievement motivation showed significant positive correlation with standard of living, father's education achievement, mother's education achievement, self-esteem, and family strengths. Third, the male adolescents' achievement motivation was influenced by self-esteem, role sharing and problem solving, communication and family bonding, and financial stability. And the male adolescents' achievement motivation was explained about 42% by this variables. The female adolescents' achievement motivation was influenced by self-esteem, communication and family bonding, and financial stability. And the male adolescents' achievement motivation was explained about 39% by this variables. Examining the influence of Family Environment variables, self-esteem, and family strengths on achievement motivation of adolescents, self-esteem has the greatest influence and students who think themselves positive and competent has high level of achievement motivation. Adolescents find their own strong point and advantage so that cherish, respect and have proud of themselves.

  • Schools are expected to ultimately moderate the difference of inequality issues among social groups and reduce the achievement gaps. This study investigates this expectation, in particular, how students' mathematics achievements are influenced by their parents' education at the individual level and by collective responsibility for teaching at the school level as well as the interaction of the two. Using a two-level hierarchical linear model, this study indicates that a school collective responsibility has a larger positive effect on students' mathematics achievement when their parents' education level is high. This means that school's collective responsibility accelerates inequity in students' mathematics achievement. Knowing that collective responsibility has less of an effect on students whose parents' education is not high, researchers, schools, and school districts should continue to search for school effects that have more of a positive impact on the relationship between mathematics achievement for students whose parents' education is not high in order to have more equitable results for all students.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the current trend of early education and to examine the relationship between the state of early education and maternal beliefs, stress, and achievement pressure. The subjects were 275 mothers of 4∼6 year-old children in Seoul. The main results were as follows : 1) Most of the subjects' children(87.6%) were involved in early education, especially in the form of home-visit study and study papers. 2) Parental beliefs (about child development and early education) and maternal achievement pressure were significantly related to the degree of actual involvement and perceived necessity of early education. 3) Parental stress regarding child's temperament was significantly related to the starting age of early education. But the other factors of parental stress had no significant relation to the state of early education.

  • The purpose of this research is to know the teachers and parents' perception on the National Assessment of Educational Achievement system that has been conducted since 2008 and to obtain the implementation on the National Assessment of Educational Achievement. For this purpose, total of 1,000 questionnaires were distributed to 500 elementary school teachers and 500 parents in Busan, and 766 of the analysis of survey results follows excluding the retrieved and insincerity responses. First, the national assessment showed negative perception from the teachers, whereas the parents were generally positive and the method to reduce the gap of perception is needed. Second, it has to be improved after collecting opinions of a teacher and parents of students for improvement on the National Assessment of Education Achievement and reviewing enough the potential problems in the context of education in Korea and school.

  • This study investigated the influence of family resources on adolescents' academic achievement, and analyzed the differencesin mediating effects between parenting and private education. The participants in this study were 5916 middle school students (males 3078, females 2838) in KELS. Structural Equation Modeling indicated that : (1) Family resources influenced adolescents' academic achievement. (2) Both parenting and private education mediated the associations between family resources and adolescents' academic achievement. (3) The difference of mediating effects for parenting and private education was not found to be significant.

  • To analyze the relationships between self-control, thinking quality and mathematical academic achievement, 197 senior school students were asked to complete questionnaires called "self-control ability on mathematics for middle school students" and "thinking quality for senior school students." The results were as follows: (1) There was strongly positive relevance between self-control ability, thinking quality and mathematical academic achievement. (2) A model was presented in which self-control ability had a direct impact on mathematical academic achievement, meanwhile had indirectly influenced mathematical academic achievement by thinking quality which acted as the intermediate variable. Thinking quality had a direct impact on mathematical academic achievement, too. (3) There's no significant difference between the two groups of boys and girls on the structural weights.

  • The purpose of this study is to research about the effects on improvement academic achievement of students based on the core learning standards of science. The researcher selected experimenter and started this study as a graduate student who is majoring in science education, experimenter chose to study 48 Sixth graders in elementary schools in B city for research group(24 students), Comparison group(24 students). The study was conducted from March to the end of July 2014. The teacher who is doing activity of professor in research group and the comparison group is science education specialist. Researcher and experimenter frequently exchange their opinions for control variables of teacher. The results are as follows. First, based on unit time strategies based on core achievement standards classes are effective in improving students' academic achievement. Elementary school teacher has difficulty in teaching for all subjects based on unit time strategies. Second, based on unit time strategies based on core achievement standards classes showed high level of satisfaction in perception of students. Thus it can be seen that teaching strategies of unit time based on the core achievement standards is effective to academic achievement improvement. The proposal for further study based on the results is as follows. First, research is needed to study the teaching methods that have practical and theoretical study time and lesson application opportunity for teaching strategies of curriculum unit time. Second, experimental studies that using strategies of unit time based on the core achievement standards are needed about learning method that can be applied in a variety of subjects.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a rubric for simulation education and to evaluate this rubric's effect on academic achievement of nursing students. Methods: The rubric was developed through nursing expert's and student's negotiation. Content validity was verified. The participants were 144 undergraduate nursing students recruited from the one university in G city. The participants were given the simulation education for 15 weeks from July, 2011 through December, 2012.[LAB1] The rubric was presented to the experimental group before the course began but was not presented to the control group. The data were analyzed by t-test, $x^2$-test with SPSS win 17.0 program. Results: The simulation education rubric was to improve academic achievement. Looking at the results it significantly improved nursing competence and knowledge. Conclusion: The rubric had a positive effect on academic achievement. A rubric with a high reliability and validity in a number of areas needs to be developed, and there is a need to develop a standardized rubric for simulation education.
