This research was carried out in part to respond to such a change, and it aims to search for and suggest ways to strengthen subject-based environmental education in Korea, the most significant part of the formal environmental education. One of the most important of this research was understanding the present status of environmental education of elementary, middle, and high schools in Korea, which was conducted by the questionnaire survey targeted to teachers on the subject-based environmental education. The survey was carried out comprehensively to include respondents from technical and home economics course as well as from vocational high schools. Through this survey, we gained information on the awareness of teachers and students on the objective, learning-teaching strategies and evaluation of environmental education as well as an understanding of the present status of environmental education in schools of Korea.

  • This article aims to analyze the experience of designing and operating a class model linking undergraduate and graduate students in engineering education and suggest its development direction. To achieve these objectives, the undergraduate-graduate linked class model was applied to community problem-solving education and a case was analyzed. It also specifically presented the process of how we design the class model and what the actual operational performances and improvements are. This study found that undergraduate and graduate students could build integrated and horizontal cooperative relationships in their classes through undergraduate-graduate linked education and, particularly, graduate students could gain meaningful educational experiences. However, it was difficult to obtain tangible performances through the team activities of these students within a semester. In order for engineering colleges to operate undergraduate-graduate linked education, it would be necessary to provide a longer and more systematic educational environment and better curriculum. The study tried to seek specific tasks and ways to improve them.

  • Objectives : This study was to seek the ways for strengthening the higher curricula for the bachelor's degree of the dental hygiene. For this two things are investigated with some students of the dental hygiene departments of colleges and workers on the part; one is what the recognition about the curricula is, and the other what are the demanding degrees through the curricula. Methods : The study has been performed with 298 people who work for dental hygiene of dental clinics and students of the departments in B region by using structured and self-administered questionnaire from March to May, 2008, and were analyzed by using SPSS 14.0 program. Results : The rate to recognize the higher curricula for the bachelor degree is 88.9%. And 70.4% among them says the curricula is 'absolutely necessary' or 'necessary'. The ways to recognize the curricula are through 'professor or friends'(53.4%), through 'newspapers of broad-casting reports'(20.5%), and through 'internet'(14.4%). They want various teaching ways including the project-centered education(40.4%), lecture-like education(25.0%), field-experience within the workplace(14.4%), lectures in the workplace(10.6%), and discussion(9.6%). Those who works in the dental clinics want night classes(49.5%, 96 respondents), internet classes(16.5%, 32 respondents), and weekend classes(14.4%, 28 respondents). They like to learn majors more deeply(30.9%), important techniques and theories about their job(26.8%), and the new skills on their work(19.8%). Conclusions : persons who are workers for dental hygiene of dental clinics and students of the departments have a requirement of dental hygienists for enforcing specialty. Therefor improve to develop education program and system about development of advance course for hygienists.

  • As the paradigm of science education has been changing from offering scientific knowledge to 'Public Understanding', ways of communication through visual tools in science education has become increasingly important. In this study, I considered 'Pataphor' as a visual tool for scientific communication, and suggested its functions and forms. By studying the notion of pataphor, which was used an overlapped image of virtual reality and reality in literature, in the perspective of contents design, I defined 'Pataphor' as a visual way of deducing or making the metaphysical similarity with the reality based on scientific imagination. Also, I deduced the functions of pataphor as a visual mediacy and suggested its types as "Pataphor of duplicated reality", "Pataphor of reflected reality", "Pataphor of metamorphosed reality", and "Pataphor of artificial reality". Through this study, it was found to be necessary to study in detail the ways to use pataphor depending on contents producing media's and learners' awareness process of contents so there will be a follow-up study on the ways to use pataphor.

  • The goal of this study is to look deeper into a reading education method for improving cognitive abilities of petty officer majoring students in community college level. Lack of the cognitive ability through the passing status of reading information processing highly can cause a problem for understanding information of context. Therefore, this study redefines the reading step to improve the cognitive ability. also, it sets up progress steps; material selection - learning - inspection - practice based on the cognitive abilities. To achieve those goals, there are two major ways. The first, setting up a proper reading assignment that is suitable for petty officer major students in community college level is a key step for this study. Second, the instructor leads the students to judge their own cognitive ability objectively by using a portfolio curriculum which contains a checking list of the portfolio, structuring a curriculum based on weekly achievements, self-checking, and setting up a direction of practice. The two presented ways are the most effective ways to develop students' cognitive ability based on continuous reading and checking. For the last, the study mentions a proposal for further tasks in this field of the study.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a scheme to provide children safer and more comfortable walking circumstances by survey current walking circumstances of school zone ways. First, to avoid pedestrian roads being interrupted and to expand waiting space near school zone ways, several measures are needed including fixing roads, using schools' unemployed spaces and building additional gateway. Second, pedestrian crossings in front of school gate should be located at least 23.16m away from the left side of the gate. Third, on narrow path which cross main streets, the interval of pedestrian signal should be extended as against of the moment. And traffic calming facilities should be built on accurate position. Fourth, to secure pedestrians' safety and field of view, trees lining streets and any obstacles located within 10m from bus stop sign should be removed. Finally, education system about school zone ways should be improved to help children get used to more complicated roads' conditions.

  • Recently, education is regarded as a service item and university education services are being exported abroad. In the form of educational export operations, export of educational contents and curriculum, specific consultancy projects for foreign institutes, installation of local educational facilities, or attracting foreign students are being carried out. Korea has the potential and competitiveness to export dental education. The advantages of Korea's dental education services, such as dental equipment and materials, excellent education programs, and high-quality human resources, will enable the export of education services in various ways. Establishment of educational infrastructure and educational programs for overseas dental students, export of educational consulting items, clinical training programs for foreign dentists abroad, invitation for international clinical workshops, dispatch of faculty members, exchange student programs can be considered as exporting dental education service items. Therefore, in a long-term perspective, it is necessary to establish differential and appropriate educational export plans.

  • Virtual Reality (VR) is one of the core components of the fourth industrial revolution as a technology that makes the virtual world feel as if it is real. VR is being used in various fields such as entertainment, advertisement, education, medical care, training, sports, and tourism, as well as providing contents for such things as games and videos. Libraries are already looking for ways to utilize VR from various angles, such as operating experiential programs. The purpose of this thesis is to develop and propose a VR-based library user education program. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, we analyzed previous studies from a theoretical perspective to find a way to construct a user education program, and also to derive possible implications based on examples of countries such as the United States and Korea that are already introducing and applying VR technology to library services. Therefore, the user education program proposed in this study can be used as a basic building block when many libraries want to develop VR-based programs in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the ways in which scientists reflect on the scientific practices, based on the premise that reflection is one of key elements for shaping scientific identities. This paper specifically considers scientists' reflections as the processes in which their senses of ethical issues and the value of science are articulated. To do so, the study developed a narrative inquiry for exploring the value of scientists' stories. Fourteen professional scientists' stories were collected in the context of the stem cell research, in ways that foreground their reflections on current scientific practices and the surrounding socio-cultural conditions. As for ethical issues, scientists' stories were analysed in terms of four claims regarding the themes of bioethics, integrity, scientific issues and communication. Furthermore, scientists' reflections on the value of science were analysed in relation to the elements of nature of science. Based on the results, discussion focused on the value of science stories as an instrument with which to guide students into the enculturation in the practices of scientific culture.
