Improved Edge Detection Algorithm Using Ant Colony System (개미 군락 시스템을 이용한 개선된 에지 검색 알고리즘)

  • Ant Colony System(ACS) is easily applicable to the traveling salesman problem(TSP) and it has demonstrated good performance on TSP. Recently, ACS has been emerged as the useful tool for the pattern recognition, feature extraction, and edge detection. The edge detection is wifely utilized in the area of document analysis, character recognition, and face recognition. However, the conventional operator-based edge detection approaches require additional postprocessing steps for the application. In the present study, in order to overcome this shortcoming, we have proposed the new ACS-based edge detection algorithm. The experimental results indicate that this proposed algorithm has the excellent performance in terms of robustness and flexibility.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm to extract rectangular object area such 3s Data Matrix two-dimensional barcode using edge tracing-based linear feature detection. Hough transform is usually employed to detect lines of edge map. However, it requires parametric image space, and does not find the location of end points of the detected lines. Our algorithm detects end points of the detected lines using edge tracing and extracts object area using its shape information.

  • This paper describes eye detection algorithm using edge information and Support Vector Machine (SVM). We adopt an edge detection and labelling algorithm to detect isolated components. Detected candidate eye pairs finally verified by SVM using Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernel. A detection rate over the test set has been achieved more than 90%, and compared with template matching method. this proposed method significantly reduced FAR.

  • Edge detection always influenced by the noise of original image, therefore need some methods to eliminate them in advance, and the Mean Shift algorithm has the smooth function which suit for this purpose, so adopt it to fade out the unimportant information and the sensitive noise portions. Above all, we use the Canny algorithm to pick up the contour of the objects we focus on. And, take tests and get better result than the former sole Canny algorithm. This combination method of Mean Shift algorithm and Canny algorithm is suitable for the edge detection processing.

  • We describe a characteristic behavior of edge signal intensity, the strictly monotonic variation of intensity across edges and propose a new algorithm for edge detection based on it. We define an extended directional derivatives, which is nonlocal and beyond scaling in the pixel space, to describe that the algorithm is adaptive to the various widths of edges and relevant as an optimal edge detection algorithm. As an industrial application of the algorithm, we discuss a simple computer vision procedure for an example of visual inspection.

  • Detection of left ventricular boundary for the functional analysis of LV(left ventricle)is obtained using automatic boundary detection algorithm based on dynamic programming method. This scheme reduces the edge searching time and ensures connective edge detection, since it does not require general edge operator, edge thresholding and linking process of other edge. detection methods.   • Edge detection is the first step and very important step in image nalyisi. In this paper, proposed edge detection algorithm based on informations of edge structures and it is different from other classical edge detection operators such asgradient and surface fitting algorithm. The firs, we defined characteristics of edge structures such as continuity, thinness, localization, length. The second, we defined valid edge structures and ideal edge pixel positions in $3\times3$ window based on edge characteristics of edge structures. And we proposed twelve windows for enhance dissimilarity regions based on valid edge structures and ideal edge pixel positions. In specially, proposed algorithm was shown better performance of edge detection than other operators such as gradient operator and the LoG(Laplacian of gradient) operator of zero crossings in noisy test image with $\sigma=30$.

  • Edge detection includes information such as the shape, position, size, and material of an object with respect to an image, and is a very important factor in analyzing the characteristics of the image. Existing edge detection methods include Sobel edge detection filter, Roberts edge detection filter, Prewitt edge detection filter, and LoG (Lapacian of Gaussian) using secondary differentials. However, these methods have a disadvantage in that the edge detection results are somewhat insufficient because a fixed weight mask is applied to the entire image area. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an edge detection algorithm that increases edge detection characteristics by considering the center pixel in the mask. In addition, in order to confirm the proposed edge detection performance, it was compared through simulation result images.

  • As the digital image processing technology develops, the edge in the image is widely utilized in various fields such as the object recognition and detection. Most of the current methods to detect the edge use the fixed weighting mask of Sobel or Roberts. Such current methods have an advantage that the implementation is simple but have a disadvantage that the characteristics of the edge detection are more or less insufficient. Thus, an algorithm using the modified morphology is proposed in order to supplement such problems of the current edge detection methods and obtain the excellent edge detection, and also a simulation using this algorithm is conducted to compare with such current methods.

  • In this paper, we propose camber monitoring system which is using on hot rolling process. In roughing mill which is one of the rolling part in hot rolling process, steel plate can be bended in width direction under the imbalance of rolling condition. This bending of steel plate in width direction is called as camber. In order to measure the camber, first, cameras which are installed over transport pathway of steel plate take pictures of whole shape of steel plate. And location value of steel plate edge is extrated from these pictures by edge detection algorithm. But, there are a lot of noises which are generated by such as water sprays, dusts, peripheral equipments in these pictures, and these noises make edge detection difficult. In order to solve this kind of problem, we developed a direction selective edge detection algorithm, and applicated in our camber monitoring system. As a result, we got stable results in spite of process noises.
