  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the medical ecosystem in the post-corona era. In addition, this study introduces a new medical CRM model that allows primary-level hospitals to overcome the economic difficulties and to occupy a competitive advantage in the post-corona era. The medical environment in the post-corona era is expected to be changed by non-face-to-face treatment, reinforcement of public medical care, the transformation of a medical system centered on the primary-level hospitals, and the use of AI and big data technologies. The medical CRM model presented in this study emphasizes the establishment of mutual customer relationships through close information exchange between patients, primary-level hospital, and the government. In the post-corona era, primary-level hospitals should not simply be approached as private hospital pursuing profitability. These should be reestablished as the hospitals that can provide public health care services while ensuring stable profitability.

  • Seismic risk assessment studies are one of the most crucial instruments for mitigating casualties and economic losses. This work utilizes fragility curves to evaluate the seismic risk of single-story precast buildings, which are generally favored in Marmara's organized industrial zones. First, the precast building stock in the region has been categorized into nine sub-classes. Then, seven locations in the Marmara region with a high concentration of industrial activities are considered. Probabilistic seismic hazard assessments were conducted for both the soil-dependent and soil-independent scenarios. Subsequently, damage analysis was performed based on the structural capacity and mean fragility curves. Considering four different consequence models, 630 sub-class-specific loss curves for buildings were obtained. In the current study, it has been determined that the consequence model has a significant impact on the loss curves, hence, average loss curves were computed for each case investigated. In light of the acquired results, it was found that the loss ratio values obtained at different locations within the same region show significant variation. In addition, it was observed that the structural damage states change from serviceable to repairable or repairable to unrepairable. Within the scope of the study, 126 average loss functions were presented that could be easily used by non-experts in earthquake engineering, regardless of structural analysis. These functions, which offer loss ratios for varying hazard levels, are valuable outputs that allow preliminary risk assessment in the region and yield sensible outcomes for insurance activities.

  • This paper presents free vibration analysis method using the characteristics of the rotationally periodic structures and includes the analysis results of a tire as an example. The normal modes of the rotationally periodic structures are the kind of standing waves, so all sectors have the same deflection shapes, and only different phases. This property makes it possible to derive the analysis method called sector method. The sector method can give the accurate natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes of the rotationally periodic structure with information of only one sector. When the free vibration analysis is performed to find the dynamic characteristics of the rotationally periodic structure by using the sector method, the computer memory spaces and the CPU times can be saved. We obtained much economic benefits by using the sector method in the analysis of dynamic characteristics of a tire made of non-linear materials.

  • From an economic perspective, an enterprise's business activity depends on the efficient use of corporate resources for generating profits. However, on the enterprise side, it is difficult to measure and evaluate the effective use of each resource. This paper suggests an alternative for eliminating process inefficiencies in the consolidation of competitive power in auto parts manufacturing company A. Multitudinous process variables from company A's raw materials-to-shipment process are configured as input resources, and a Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) is carried out to determine economical benefit of said resources' operation, as well as how products are manufactured. The DEA model offers a non-parametric approach to measuring relative efficiency using input and output factors. Furthermore, AHP is used for logically deciding the importance of each evaluation factor. In general, DEA models have been used for measuring efficiency of the service and public sectors. However, this study focused on measuring the efficiency of SMEs production lines.

  • This paper presents an adaptive strategy of GENCOs for reducing the greenhouse gas by fuel mix change. Fuel mix stands for generation capacity portfolio composed of different fuel resources. Currently, the generation sector of power industry in Korea is heavily dependent on fossil fuels, therefore it is required to change the fuel mix gradually into more eco-friendly way based on renewable energies. The generation costs of renewable energies are still expensive compared to fossil fueled resources. This is why the adaptive change is more preferred at current stage and this paper proposes an optimal strategy for capacity planning based on multiple environmental scenarios on the time horizon. This study used the computer program tool named GATE-PRO (Generation And Transmission Expansion PROgram), which is a mixed-integer non-linear program developed by Hongik university and Korea Energy Economics Institute. The simulations have been carried out with the priority allocation method in the program to determine the optimal mix of NRE(New Renewable Energy). Through this process, the result proposes an economic fuel mix under emission constraints compatible with the greenhouse gas mitigation policy of the United Nations.

  • The biosorption process has been established as characteristics of dead biomasses of both cellulosic and microbial origin to bind metal ion pollutants from aqueous suspension. The high effectiveness of this process even at low metal concentration, similarity to ion exchange treatment process, but cheaper and greener alternative to conventional techniques have resulted in a mature biosorption technology. Yet its adoption to large scale industrial wastewaters treatment has still been a distant reality. The purpose of this review is to make in-depth analyses of the various aspects of the biosorption technology, staring from the various biosorbents used till date and the various factors affecting the process. The design of better biosorbents for improving their physico-chemical features as well as enhancing their biosorption characteristics has been discussed. Better economic value of the biosorption technology is related to the repeated reuse of the biosorbent with minimum loss of efficiency. In this context desorption of the metal pollutants as well as regeneration of the biosorbent has been discussed in detail. Various inhibitions including the multi mechanistic role of the biosorption technology has been identified which have played a contributory role to its non-commercialization.

  • This paper investigates the determinants of household splitting and offers the implication on relative poverty. Household splitting is more likely among high-income households, and also ensued by an increase in the number of job holders and household income, which indicate that household splitting has the nature of a normal good. A counter-factual analysis suggests that the relative poverty rate ould have been only one-third to one-eighth of the actual rate among the old households if they had lived together with their children. These results indicate that the social policy toward the old households without due consideration on the children's financial capability is quite likely to bring about the inefficiency of wasting tax money on essentially non-poor households.

  • The objective of this study is to develop a method which can design an optimal pipe network system using nonlinear programming(NLP) technique. The method finds the minimum-cost pipe network while satisfying all the design constraints including hydraulic constraints. The method developed in this study was applied to the Goyang distribution area in Goyang, Kyoungi-do. It has been found in the application and the comparison between the original design and the optimal design of this study that the optimal design method developed in this study does not require the trial-and-error procedure while satisfying the discharge and pressure requirements at the demanding nodes. Therefore, the optimal design method using NLP could be effectively utilized in the practical design considering economic aspect of the pipe network system at the same time.

  • In Botswana, mopane worms are widely harvested for household consumption. They are also traded for income generation. Urban based entrepreneurs' source mopane worms from rural areas to sell. The price of sourcing mopane worms from the harvesters has increased quite incredibly in villages. However, there is dearth of academic studies on the commercialisation of mopane worms in Botswana. This paper uses primary data collected from multiple sources to investigate the factors influencing the prices of mopane worms. Data collection involved administration of questionnaires to purposively selected harvesters in four campsites in the Central District, focus group discussions at each campsite and key informant interviews. The results show that there is declining population of mopane worms. The decline is attributable to such factors as over-harvesting and climate change which are the main factors influencing the price of mopane worms. In addition to physical scarcity of mopane worms, institutional weaknesses exist in the study area. The Agricultural Resources Conservation Act is ineffective and the majority of the harvesters are unaware of its existences. It is recommended that the regulations on the harvesting of mopane worms be reviewed. In order to benefit harvesters, mopane worms should be processed to add diversified economic value to rural communities.

  • In this paper, the response surface method using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis to optimize the shape of a forward-curved blades centrifugal fan, is described. For numerical analysis, Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with standard k-e turbulence model are transformed into non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system, and are discretized with finite volume approximations. Due to the large number of blades in forward-curved blades centrifugal fan, the flow inside of the fan is regarded as steady flow by introducing the impeller force models for economic calculations. Linear Upwind Differencing Scheme(LUDS) is used to approximate the convection terms in the governing equations. SIMPLEC algorithm is used as a velocity-pressure correction procedure. Design variables, location of cur off, radius of cut off, expansion angle of scroll and width of impeller were selected to optimize the shapes of scroll and blades. Data points for response evaluations were selected by D-optimal design, and linear programming method was used for the optimization on the response surface. As a main result of the optimization, the efficiency was successfully improved. It was found that the optimization process provides reliable design of this kind of fans with reasonable computing time
