  • The design process of ecological and environmental detention system located in the housing district of Sinjeong 3-jigu in Seoul are as follows. At stage one, a new dispersal detention was created in the neighborhood park located near the originally planned detention. From this, the amount of storage of this dispersal detention system was enlarged from $28,337m^3/d$, the initial storage amount, to $33,606m^3/d$ as the post storage amount, responsible to the amount of rainfall which happens every 100 years. In particular, the SSB (Sustainable Structured wetland Biotop) system, which was the New Excellent Technology verified by the Ministry of Environment (No. 258) was applied to enhance ecological functioning and water quality with the detention as a constructed wetland. At stage two, the treatment plans for non-point pollutant source occurred at the initial period of rain, flowing into the detention system were built for purifying the water of the retention pond at the base of the detentions, and the water-circulation system was designed at the dispersal detentions on the period of regular rainfalls. The non-point pollutant source flowing into detention site was calculated as $11,699m^3/d$ flowing down from seven small watersheds, which occurred at the initial period of rain. In particular the SSB systems improved the average efficiency of the water processing performance to BOD 60%, SS 90%, T-N 30%, T-P 60%. At stage three, the ecological network and biological diversity were strongly considered so that it brought the residents with amenity places. In particular, the dispersal detentions were successfully designed to restore the ecological habitat of endangered plant and animal species such as narrow-mouthed.

  • Currently, environmental contaminants that can cause Aromatic types of hydrocarbons, less than 1% made of Aromatic Free kind of used products, soybean oil products with linseed oil with the products, rice products using a wide range of environmentally ecological ink since 2000 is released quickly. All materials used in printed material, if the green is the best way to print the composite materials in industrial applications, because each process on the print quality and productivity, there can be many differences in this experiment because it accounts for a large proportion in the print general ink in the ink section and the International color standards(ISO2846-1:2006) certified ecological ink were compared. Therefore, in this paper has the ink released from the same company, each common general ink and ecological ink in the same condition which results were focused on whether the emerging international color standard(ISO 2846-1:2006) recognized for environmentally ecological ink printed color reproduction of the actual offset(color reproduction) how conformity to ISO 12647-2 standard color on the basis of the offset would check Color Reproduction. Based on the results of the experiments of this study, given the ecological ink coated paper, uncoated paper both color difference and the gamut of the ISO 12647-2 standard is suitable for ecological ink, the ink's color gamut reproduction, even more than existing international standards, there is no confirmed that the correct color reproduction possible. Using environmentally ecological ink industries is expected to respond to environmental policy.

  • Ecosystem services are contributing to human welfare by enabling us to maintain our survival and quality of life. A metod of quantifying ecological functions is needed. We discussed the introduction and applications of ecosystem services to applied ecological engineering. The concept and assessment system of ecosystem services were applied to the economic valuation of river, the construction of blue-green-white network in urban area, ecological restoration, and integrated water management in Korea. The conceptual framework and assessment of ecosystem services can be used to promote value of ecological protection and restoration, helping stakeholders understand the benefits of ecosystems and increasing applications of the applied ecological engineering.

  • Volatile compounds (VOCs) are an important factor affecting meat quality. However, the characteristic VOCs in different parts of donkey meat remain unknown. Accordingly, this study represents a preliminary investigation of VOCs to differentiate between different cuts of donkey meat by using headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (HS-GC-IMS) combined with chemometrics analysis. The results showed that the 31 VOCs identified in donkey meat, ketones, alcohols, aldehydes, and esters were the predominant categories. A total of 10 VOCs with relative odor activity values ≥1 were found to be characteristic of donkey meat, including pentanone, hexanal, nonanal, octanal, and 3-methylbutanal. The VOC profiles in different parts of donkey meat were well differentiated using three- and two-dimensional fingerprint maps. Nine differential VOCs that represent potential markers to discriminate different parts of donkey meat were identified by chemometrics analysis. These include 2-butanone, 2-pentanone, and 2-heptanone. Thus, the VOC profiles in donkey meat and specific VOCs in different parts of donkey meat were revealed by HS-GC-IMS combined with chemometrics, whcih provided a basis and method of investigating the characteristic VOCs and quality control of donkey meat.

  • Anyang Stream Restoration Movement was started from 2001 for the construction of ecological city. The facilities for reuse of treated sewerage have been used since 2003 for improvement of water quality, maintenance of water quantity, river ecological restoration, and hydrophilic space. Thus, the Anyang city has been gradually transformed to eco-friendly city after the construction of Anyang stream and Hakui stream as natural rivers. In this study, biological and chemical methods as well as ecological indicators for Anyang mainstream and major tributaries were monitored for four years in between 2008 and 2012. The water quality and the diversity of species in most of the streams were found to be good except Anyang main stream. It appears that the influence of seasonal drying stream is almost disappeared except Sammak stream. Thus, the values for BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and BIP (Biological Index of Pollution) for Anyang main stream were found to be 5.27~3.42mg/l and 4.51~5.50, respectively. This is considered to be caused by the reused water quality of treated wastewater being exceeded the design criteria or by the non-point source of contaminants around the stream. However, entire section of tributaries shows I, II grade as a good water quality.

  • This study has been conducted to perform the survey on the ecological systems, scenary, and water quality change for agriculturally purposed drainage channels constructed with the application of environment-friendly methods and thus to evaluate the environment-friendly redevelopment effects of them. The main results of this study are as follow: 1. The channels not looking good aesthetically before redevelopment had changed into graceful scenic views from the aspect of landscape architecture as natural-type gently waterside to the channel and naturally-looking water stream. In the village parks developed for the rest of residents, an enough view was secured and thus a wide prospect scope could be obtained. 2. The flora in the channels have increased to 35 families and 82 species from 19 families and 32 species before renovation. As the growth speed of them are slower than externally-brought plants, they can cause some risks to the stability of land slope, including scour by erosion. From that reason, it is necessary to adequately combine the species of the plants both natively growing there and externally-brought planted. 3. In case of water quality, it turned out that, from more than a year after redevelopment, plants began to take roots and the water quality improved. On the contrary, there have been some cases, partly found, that aggravated the quality of water due to the causes like as retention of floating matters by withered plants or plant bodies after the growth of plants in the channels under survey became active, and therefore it is judged that a periodic maintenance of waterways is needed. 4. In case of fishes, all species before renovation have revived, and the population and the number of species have increased after works the formation of puddles in the channels. In waterside grasslands, amphibia and reptiles have not only increased but also been diversified.

  • Biological stream environment assessment has been an essential trend of aquatic ecosystems among advanced countries, because the chemical water quality assessment has limitations that only represent temporal water environmental status. Benthic macroinvertebrates are the most popular bioindicator group useful to biological water quality assessment for a long time. In addition, a number of indices using benthic macroinvertebrates have recently been developed not only for water quality assessment but also for ecological health assessment. In this paper Korean Saprobic Index (KSI) based on Zelinka-Marvan's saprobic valency concept is developed by applying DIN 38410 in Germany. The KSI value was widely applicable to most Korean streams with the exception of sand-based large streams, for example main stream of Nakdong River. But as a result of non-linear regression analysis the correlation between KSI and $BOD_5$ concentration was high and KSI reflected water quality alteration for mid and long-term period. In spite of applicability of KSI, it should be supplemented and developed to make it strong by accumulating field data as well as to manage integrated water environment in general through continuous biomonitoring.
