Intestinal microbial flora comprise one third of the large intestinal contents in human. They play a significant effects through beneficial and harmful action on the human health. This is the first study which examined the composition of the microflora of the general population in Korea. Bacteroides, Bifidobacterium, Eubacterium, Peptostreptococcus, Lactobacillus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus, Clostridium perfringens, total aerobic bacteria and total anaerrobic bacteria were counted using various selective and non-selective media. Among the bacteria studied the number of Bifidobacterium were greatest in breast-fed infants(30-90 days old), whereas Streptocuccus and Bifidobacterium in bottle-fed infants. In 20-40 age group Bacteroides were predominant followed by Bifidobacterium and Eubacterium. In early group(over 65 years old) Bacteroides were predominant followed by Eubacterium and bifidobacterium. The frequency and number of Cl. perfringens were highest in dlderly group. These results confirm that the microfloral pattern in large intestine change during the life cycle of humans.

Often arrangement for effective product assessment and audit have not been completely satisfactory. The underlying reasons are: (a) The lack of early evidence of new unit quality. (b) The collection and processing of data. (c) Ineffective data analysis techniques. (d) The variability of information on which decision making is based. Because of the nature of the product the essential outputs from an affective QA organization would be: (a) Confirmation of new unit quality. (b) Detection of failures which are either epidemic or slowly degradatory. (c) Identification of failure cases. (d) Provision of management information at the right time to effect the necessary corrective action. The heart of an effective QA scheme is the acquisition and processing of data. With the advent of data processing for quality monitoring becomes feasible in an automotive testing environment. This paper shows how the method enables us to use Automotive Testing data for the cost benefits of QA management.

rate of growth of "protective" films of oxides and compounds derived from the lubricant. The protection afforded by the films is strongly dependent on lubricant and steel composition, initial composite surface roughness and the load/speed sequence or history in the early stages of sliding. The protective films, formed by chemical and mechanical action between lubricant and mating surfaces, delayed the surface roughening and offered higher load capacity. Given the great number of variables involved it is not possible to follow more than a few of the chemical changes on surfaces at the end of experiments. Ellipsometry was therefore used to monitor the formation and loss of dual protective films in real time, and also to find the effect of protective films on scuffing and break-in depending on lubricant conditions.

Many pathovars of the species Pseudomonas syringae are known to produce different phytotoxins as secondary metabolites. Although phytotoxins generally enhance the virulence of P. syringae, they are not required for pathogenesis. Among the phytotoxins produced by P. syringae, lipodepsipeptides, coronatine, phaseolotoxin, and tabtoxin are the most well-known toxins which have been intensively studied for their structure, mode of action, biosynthesis, and regulation. A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique that amplifies a segment of the phytotoxin gene cluster using a primer set has been developed in recent years. This method offers the advantages of speed and sensitivity compared to the approaches based on physiological and biochemical methods. PCR detection of genes involved in the production of toxins could be exploited for early diagnosis of plant diseases caused by P. syringae pathovars.

Batteries as an emergency power of stationary standby service are required to provide a reliable source of DC power needed to aid in safe AC power failure. It is important that the properly action in early stage as soon as possible, when the battery's deterioration is detected. This paper describes a practical diagnostic technique to monitor the state-of-health of lead acid batteries in telecommunications power system.

Backgrounds: Kennedy disease is a X-linked recessive disease characterized by bulbar symptoms, proximal muscle weakness, and gynecomastia. Methods: We analyzed clinical symptoms and performed electrodiagnostic studies on 6 patients. Results: We found following features: 1) proximal muscle weakness 2) bulbar symptoms, as dysarthria, facial and tongue atrophy 3) hyporeflexia or areflexia 4) fasciculations, predominantly on face, and proximal upper extremities 5) decreased sensory nerve action potentials(SNAPs) 6) chronic neurogenic changes in needle EMG. Conclusions: Kennedy disease is characterized by degenerative process of anterior horn cell and dorsal root ganglion without upper motor neuron dysfunction. Increased triple nucleotide CAG repeats(>38) in androgen receptor gene of Xp21 will confirm early stage of this disease.

As the Long-life certification system is recently introduced in the Housing Law in Korea, it is expected that an application of the lightweight wall panel will be increased in apartment construction as the main wall system. However, the performance criteria for lightweight wall is in the early phase of its action. Therefore, it is necessary to establish the performance criteria properly by investigating performance requirement in the user's perspective. The purpose of this study is to identify of the weight of the required performance items for the lightweight wall in apartment house. To analyze the priority in the performance, an interview survey is performed; after monitering the test-bed of the lightweight walls, user and experts evaluate the performance requirements. The weight of the performance requirement is developed by AHP method.

The recruitment and infiltration of monocytes into the artery wall is a crucial early step in atherogenesis. KR-31378 has been shown to be a neuroprotective agent in rat brain via its potent antioxidant and antiapoptotic actions. Here, we report the effects of this compound on atherogenesis, and some possible mechanisms of action.(omitted)

When cyber attacks are discovered in nuclear facilities, licensees are required to notify regulatory organizations for quick action. This also helps regulatory organizations to strengthen regulatory capabilities for cyber security. Currently the U.S. issued the final draft rule for Cyber Security Event Notifications. Domestic regulatory activities being at an early stage for cyber security need to implement law for Cyber Security Event Notifications. Since the current laws are focused on the aspect of safety, they are in need of more specific laws for cyber security.
