  • Modular steel buildings consist of prefabricated room-sized structural units that are manufactured offsite and installed onsite. The inter-module connections must fulfill the assembly construction requirements and soundly transfer the external loads. This work proposes an innovative assembled connection suitable for modular buildings with concrete-filled steel tube columns. The connection uses pretensioned strands and plugin bars to vertically connect the adjacent modular columns. The moment-transferring performance of this inter-module connection was studied through monotonic and cyclic loading tests. The results showed that because of the assembly construction, the connected sections were separated under lateral bending, and the prestressed inter-module connection performed as a weak semirigid connection. The moment strength at the early loading stage originated primarily from the contact bonding mechanism with the infilled concrete, and the postyield strength depended mainly on the tensioned strands. The connection displayed a self-centering-like behavior that the induced deformation was reversed during unloading. The energy dissipation originated primarily from frictional slipping of the plugin bars and steel strands. The moment transferring ability was closely related to the section dimension and the arrangements of the plugin bars and steel strands. A simplified strength calculation and evaluation method was also proposed, and the effectiveness was validated with the test data.

  • Compared with other industries, the construction Industry has many parties(A/E/C) as well as many types of construction activities. Especially, as for the remodeling project, the owner group the remodeling union consists of various stakeholders union and requiring the additional activities of demolition except for the existing new building construction project. Like this, the remodeling project has its own characteristics different from a new building construction project. As for the remodeling project, the Owner's decision making for a remodeling alternative has to be preceded, and other parties are required to propose a remodeling alternative which satisfies the Owner's requirements. However, because of time constraints, many types of problems occur during the decision-making process. In consideration of this, in this research, the authors would like to suggest a decision-making support system to help the Owner's decision-making in the early stage of a remodeling project. For this paper purpose of a remodeling decision-making framework based on Building Information Modeling(BIM) was suggested to help with the Owner's decision-making for each remodeling item and the decision-making support system was evaluated through Case Study.

  • Setting up a priorityfor an embedded system is greatly significant because a release plan at the early stage of product developments can properly be established through right decision making procedures based on the priorities. For instance, both dependencies among requirements and the aspects of product developers should be considered into the priorities to improve the embedded system. Especially, trade-offs among the requirements, which are quite different depending on H/W and S/W architecture styles they use, should be acknowledged without exception. However, the selection process on the priority has hitherto been fairly systematic in the existing environment where hardware and software are not being considered at once. Therefore, this paper suggests an dependency and aspect-based model and process for the requirements of the priority. For this, the paper analyzes the trade-offs between the requirements depending on the disparate Architecture styles of H/W and S/W, and it also reflects the viewpoints of the developers. For thelast thing, the model and process suggested will be applied to the case of the development of both cell phones and cameras to gain authenticity and reliability. In conclusion, the danger occurring when the release plan is constructed can be minimized by screening the priorities that optimizes the embedded system more explicitly.

  • Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system is a typical integrated system that simultaneously performs both building function and solar power generation function. To maximize its potential advantage, however, the solar photovoltaic power generation function must be integrated from the early conceptual design stage, and maximum power generation must be designed. To cope with such requirements, preliminary research on BIPV design process based on architectural design model and computer simulation results for improving solar power generation performance have been published. However, the requirements of the BIPV system have not been clearly identified and systematically reflected in the subsequent design. Moreover, no model has verified the power generation design. To solve these problems, we systematically model the requirements of BIPV system and study power generation design based on the system requirements model. Through the study, we consistently use the standard system modeling language, SysML. Specifically, stakeholder requirements were first identified from stakeholders and related BIPV standards. Then, based on the domain model, the design requirements of the BIPV system were derived at the system level, and the functional and physical architectures of the target system were created based on the system requirements. Finally, the power generation performance of the BIPV system was evaluated through a simulated SysML model (Parametric diagram). If the SysML system model developed herein can be reinforced by reflecting the conditions resulting from building design, it will open an opportunity to study and optimize the power generation in the BIPV system in an integrated fashion.

  • In recent years, the developments in technologies, such as AI systems, Blockchain, VR/AR, 3D printing, robotics, and nanotechnology, are reshaping the future of healthcare right before our eyes. And also, healthcare has seen a paradigm shift towards prevention-oriented medicine, with a focus on consumers requirements. The spread of infectious diseases such as Covid-19 have altered the definition of healthcare and treatment facilities, necessitating immediate action to redesign hospitals' physical environments, adapt communication models to address social distancing requirements, implement virtual health solutions, and establish new clinical protocols. Hospitals, which have traditionally served as the hub of healthcare systems, are pursuing or being forced to reestablish themselves against this landscape. Rather than only treating ailments, future healthcare is predicted to focus on wellness and prevention. In personalized care, long-term prevention strategies, remote monitoring, early diagnosis, and detection are critical. Given the growing interest in smart healthcare defined by these modern technologies, this study looked into the definitions and service kinds of smart healthcare. The background and technical aspects of smart hospitals were also explored through a literature review.

  • Based on the movement characteristics of overlying strata with gangue backfilling, the compression test of gangue is designed. The deformation characterristics of gangue is obtained based on the different Talbot index. The deformation has a logarithmic growth trend, including sharp deformation stage, linear deformation stage, rheological stage, and the resistance to deformation changes in different stages. The more advantageous Talbot gradation index is obtained to control the surface subsidence. On the basis of similarity simulation test with gangue backfilling, the characteristics of roof failure and the evolution of the supporting force are analyzed. In the early stage of gangue backfilling, beam structure damage directly occurs at the roof, and the layer is separated from the overlying rock. As the working face advances, the crack arch of the basic roof is generated, and the separation layer is closed. Due to the supporting effect of filling gangue, the stress concentration in gangue backfilling stope is relatively mild. Based on the equivalent mining height model of gangue backfilling stope, the relationship between full ratio and mining height is obtained. It is necessary to ensure that the gradation of filling gangue meets the Talbot distribution of n=0.5, and the full ratio meets the protection grade requirements of surface buildings.

  • Because the environmental regulations for ships are getting tighter, green ships employing eco-friendly technology have recently received a large amount of attention. Among them, various studies for electric propulsion ships have been carried out, particularly in the United States, European Union, and Japan. On the other hand, research related to electric propulsion ships in Korea is in a very nascent stage. In this paper, an estimation process based on the rough requirements of ship-owners for the operating performance of electric propulsion ships is proposed. In addition, the estimation process is applied to a small fishing boat for verification of the process. These results are expected to be used as design guidelines in the early stage of the design process for electric propulsion ships.

  • In recent years, aviation-related safety-critical systems have been developed in Korea, but these products have not satisfied the specified requirements and thus have not been commercialized or commercialized. Due to increasing complexity of the modern aviation system, traditional verification and validation techniques are not sufficient to identify and reduce latent risks in the system. To overcome this shortcoming, a new method which is called 'Independent verification and validation (IV&V)' is suggested. However, academic researches on the effectiveness of this independent verification and validation have not been conducted domestically, and it is performed very rarely even overseas. Therefore, in this paper, we investigated the application of independent verification and validation of the safety-critical aviation systems performed by advanced aviation organizations, and analyzed various positive effects on projects. As a result of the analysis, IV&V shows that early error detection rate is increased, potential risk is mitigated early, and the complex reworking probability, which appears later in the development life cycle, is reduced, greatly preventing the development schedule and costs from increasing.
