EMTDC Modeling of Cheju-Haenam HVDC System (제주-해남 HVDC 시스템의 EMTDC 모델링)

  • This paper deals with HVDC simulation. And the purpose of this paper is to reproduce measurements recorded at HVDC site and to verify the control gains and control actions. In this paper, the target of simulation study is Cheju-Haenam HVDC system. Because Cheju-Haenam HVDC system include analogue controller and digital controller, the detailed digital model considered nonlinear characteristics of analogue controllers is development for high accurate firing and control action. Finally the simulation results which is simulated by PSCAD/EMTDC is compared with measurement signals.

  • This paper describes operational analysis results of the DC micro-grid using detailed model of distributed generation. Detailed model of wind power generation, photo-voltaic generation, fuel-cell generation was implemented with the user-defined model of PSCAD/EMTDC software that is coded with C-language. Various simulation results confirm that the DC micro-grid can operate without any problem in both the interconnected mode and the islanded mode. The operation analysis result confirms that the DC micro-grid make it feasible to provide power to the load stably.

  • This paper presents the model for an AC electric railway system using the PSCAD/EMTDC program. It is composed of a scott-transformer, an auto-transformer, catenary and electric trains, etc. After obtaining the models of the fundamental elements describing the AC electric railway system and its behavior, we have analyzed and tested an actual AC electric railway system focused on the amplification of harmonic current to verify the proposed model. The simulation results from the proposed approach and the measurement data from the test are described.

  • In power system, the study on synchronous generators is an important issue. Among the studies, reactive power control of synchronous generators is very important from the viewpoint of power system stability. In this study, we develope a classical generator model and a power factor regulation model applying a simple algorithm in order to control reactive power generation, using EMTDC.

  • The paper proposes a simulation model of grid-connected photovoltaic generation system (PV system) using on PSCAD/EMTDC, a reliable power system and apparatus transient analysis program. A equivalent circuit model of a solar cell is used for modeling solar array. A series of parameters required for array modeling are deduced from general specification data of a solar module. A PWM voltage source inverter (VSI) model is presented and current control scheme is implemented for VSI control. A maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is applied for controlling the PV system. Simulation case study provides V-I and V-P characteristics of solar array and PV system control performance for irradiation changes.

  • 대규모 과도현상의 모의에는 엄밀한 모델링과 많은 계산부담이 요구되어 이러한 복잡성을 줄이면서도 해의 정확도를 유지할 수 있는 MD법이 제안되었다. 본 논문에서는 MD법을 EMTDC내에서 구현하는 방법에 대해 소개하며 제시된 모델의 타당성을 3상 모의계통에서 축약 전후의 과도전압 파형을 비교함으로써 검증하였다.

  • This paper describes the faun phenomena by the simulation in power system including underground transmission power cable. Studying on fault phenomena is a very important part to decide the circuit breaker, protective relay and system configuration. Simulation was carried out in several different model system depended upon cable kinds using PSCAD/EMTDC, which is one of the transient program. The simulated results show the possibility to analyze transient phenomena for the cable system.

  • This paper proposes a method for estimating unbalance in electric railroad system PSCAD/EMTDC models for voltage unbalance analysis of electric railroad system that transfer electric power through Scott transformer from KEPCO's 154kV transmission line are developed. In order to verify model's validity, we compare simulation results with simple calculation results.

  • In this study, samples from the site where there occurred unbalanced current when cable routing were analyzed, and the simulation program for electric power system analysis, PSCAD/EMTDC, was used to calculate the current unbalance on cable routing. Based on electromagnetic finite element analysis(FEA), electromagnetic parameters enabled the interlocking with COMSOL for the calculation of allowable current ampacity and magnetic filed distribution. This then led to modeling unbalanced current between common modes using the unbalanced current analysis program, thereby comparing and discussing the results from both. The analyzed model is a common mode 2 parallel circuit, which is a basic model for cable routing, and by arranging cables in various ways, the arrangement with the least current unbalance was suggested, which would, in the future, prevent earth faults and extend life for the whole cable.

  • There are many power system simulation software tools for time-domain performance in power system. This paper reports the results of time-domain simulation for the Jeju Power system with a secondary voltage regulation (SVR) model, developed with both TSAT and PSCAD/EMTDC and evaluates them, which are commercial software tools used for digital simulation of power system. TSAT has not been yet verified because of deficient modelling of components in the time domain performance of KEPCO power system. But PSCAD/EMTDC has been enough verified in our system. So, we need to compare and evaluate TSAT with PSCAD/EMTDC in small power system like Jeju. This paper showed that the results simulated by both TSAT and PSCAD/EMTDC is very similar to each other, so TSAT is able to apply for our KEPCO large power system.
