  • The rotor position information is needed to control the speed of SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor). The information of the rotor position have been generally acquired by using the encoder or the resolver. Speed sensors, however, occasionally malfunction under the hostile environment such as EMI, dust, high temperature and humidity, etc. There have been many efforts to drive the motor without speed sensors. In this paper, the EKF(Extanded Kalman Filter) theory is proposed to drive the SRM without speed sensors. Proposed method keeps a robust speed estimation performance against the input noise because it includes a noise model of measuring noise within the system. The validity of the proposed method has been examined by simulations.

  • CISPR has published the limits on the noises emitting from power lines and signal lines. But different measurement environment and measurement methods are used in every countries. This difference causes much confusion in understanding the results measured by different test laboratories. In this paper, we measure EMI noise using the absorbing clamp method that takes short measurement time and is described in CISPR 13, 14-1, 16-2. We analyze the cause of the difference of measurement results and propose the method for improving the uncertainty

  • There were overwhelming high-frequency electromagnetic noises in 200kW-class hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) although EMC control strategy had been applied to cope with the electromagnetic noises during the development of HEV. This paper investigates the characteristics of the conducted and radiated emission noises, the source and path of noises, and the effects of EMI on the electronics. Finally the design concept of noise control is proposed.

  • The main purpose of this study is to design and develop the grid connected 4kW photovoltatic PCS(Power Conditioning System) targeting for Japanese market. To make this task, the development of DC to DC converter, one phase inverter and EMI filters, and the research on connection between inverter and utility line are made. The developed 4kW PCS has fully carried out performance verifications and evaluation works and acquired the JET(Japan Electrical Safety & Environment Technology Laboratories) certification for safety and performance.

  • The position information of the rotor are required while the SRG(Switched Reluctance Generator) is drived. The position information is generally provided by shaft encoder or resolver. But it is weak in the dusty, high temperator and EMI environment. Therefore, the sensor is able to required to eliminated from the SRG. In this paper, a estimation algorithm for the rotor position of the SRG is introducted and a constant DC-link voltage is controled by PID controller. The estimation algorithm is implemened by the adaptive sliding observer and that it is able to estimate the rotor position well is proved by the simulation.

  • One of the major problem encountered in nuclear plants and satellites design isEMI (Electro-Magnetic Interference) and EMC (Electro-Magnetic Compatibility). Here, our focus is to implement the test board for checking SEU (Single EventUpsets); the effects of protons on the electronic system. The SEU results from thelevel change of stored information due to photon radiation and temperature in thespace environment. The impact of SEU on PLD (Programmable Logic Devices)technology is most apparent in ROM/SRAM/DRAM devices wherein the state ofstorage cell can be upset. In this paper, a simple and powerful test techniques issuggested, and the results are presented for the analysis and future reference. In ourexperiment, the proton radiation facilitv (having the energy of 50 MeV with a beamcurrent of 60 uA of cyclotron) available at KIRAMS (Korea Institute of RadiologicalMedical Sciences) has been applied on a commercially available SRAM manufacturedby Hynix Semiconductor Company.

  • This paper describes the high efficiency inverter ballast circuit using very cheap microprocessor, which has been developed by the author. A variety of soft-switching techniques have been proposed to reduce the switching losses and EMI problems that occur with higher switching frequencies in switched inverter ballast. The inverter ballast circuit, which employs a temperature sensing circuits has been also proposed to improve starting performance of the fluorescent lamps. That is, the inverter ballast circuit, which employs a soft-starting circuit and soft-switching techniques to implement the power factor correction and to mitigate of power-loss and increase a life time of the fluorescent lamps, has become an attractive performance for ballasting the fluorescent lamps. In this paper, the operation and the control of the inverter ballast are described in detail and experimental results are presented. As the experimental results, when environment temperature is at -40℃, the inverter ballast circuit has low THD(4.8%) of the input current and large power factor(98%) of the lamp current. The proposed improved ballast circuit appears to be a good performance for ballasting fluorescent lamps.

  • Measurement of dynamic characteristics are widely used to detect defects in mechanical or civil structures. The most common approach is to measure changes in frequency spectrum or mode shapes using accelerometers. An alternative to using mode shapes is using stain modes. Strain is more sensitive to local defects than displacement, and hence stain modes measurement is an efficient in structural health monitoring. This paper deals with dynamic monitoring of a beam structure using strain sensors. Resistive strain gages and FBG strain gages are used and their characteristics are compared. It has been known that resistive strain gages are week to EMI environment and suffers from noise at high frequency range. It has been shown that the FBG sensor is a good alternative that overcomes such difficulties.

  • Recently, the influence of electromagnetic environment for low frequency range on human body has been being argued. Light Rail Transit (LRT) System is an urban transit system which has approximately an intermediate transportation capacity between conventional subway and bus. The LRT systems have been applied and being operated in about a hundred lines around the world and many projects that apply the LRT systems in Korea are being proceeded and scheduled. LRT system is operated under the electrical circumstance of high voltage and large current and passengers are exposed in those electrical circumstance. In this paper, EMI/EMC for low frequency range of K-AGT system is measured and analyzed comparing with the international standard.

  • This paper presents the study result on a realization of wireless umbilical device for missile systems. In general, a missile system is connected to a fire control equipment via an umbilical connector to get the electrical power for its internal equipment and communicate with each other. And these connectors inherently have many problems of mis-contact between pin and socket, and mis-separation during missile firing, etc. A wireless umbilical device using LC resonance is devised to solve these problems of the current technology. For hundreds of watts power transmission under the missile system environment of restricted space, we designed and made a prototype of wireless umbilical device. And we tested this wireless umbilical device with an aluminum cylinder having cutout windows which simulate missiles. We realized that the wireless technology can be used as a substitute for the conventional umbilical connectors, and EMI and environment tests should be followed further.
