In the research of brain computer interface (BCI) technology, one of the big problems encountered is how to deal with some people as called the BCI-illiteracy group who could not control the BCI system. To approach this problem efficiently, we investigated a kind of spectral EEG characteristics in the prior resting state in association with BCI performance in the following BCI tasks. First, spectral powers of EEG signals in the resting state with both eyes-open and eyes-closed conditions were respectively extracted. Second, a convolution neural network (CNN) based binary classifier discriminated the binary motor imagery intention in the BCI task. Both the linear correlation and binary prediction methods confirmed that the spectral EEG characteristics in the prior resting state were highly related to the BCI performance in the following BCI task. Linear regression analysis demonstrated that the relative ratio of the 13 Hz below and above the spectral power in the resting state with only eyes-open, not eyes-closed condition, were significantly correlated with the quantified metrics of the BCI performance (r=0.544). A binary classifier based on the linear regression with L1 regularization method was able to discriminate the high-performance group and low-performance group in the following BCI task by using the spectral-based EEG features in the precedent resting state (AUC=0.817). These results strongly support that the spectral EEG characteristics in the frontal regions during the resting state with eyes-open condition should be used as a good predictor of the following BCI task performance.
The purpose of this study is to monitor the physiological changes by measuring EEG, blood pressure, heart rate, etc after applying progressive relaxation technique to university archery players in order to verify the effect of progressive relaxation through respiration, and, ultimately, improve an athlete's archery performance. This study chose 13 female archery athletes. The EEG, blood pressure, and heart rate of the athletes were measured before applying Jacobson's progressive relaxation technique for 12 weeks, during which the EEG, blood pressure, and heart rate were measured 3 times a week after 15 to 20 minutes of training before every measurement. We used the SPSS18.0 program for technical analysis to check the general features of the athletes and carried out the paired t-test to examine the changes made to the EEG, blood pressure, and heart rate of a single test group before and after the experiment. All statistical level of significance was maintained at ${\alpha}=0.5$. The results are as follows. First, after 12 weeks of appliance, between the targets' relative ${\alpha}$ wave and ${\beta}$ wave, the relative ${\alpha}$ wave showed a statistically significant increase while the relative ${\beta}$ wave showed no changes. Second, after 12 weeks of appliance, in terms of blood pressure, the systolic pressure showed no changes while the diastolic pressure showed a statistically significant change. Third, there was no statistically significant change to the heart rate. In conclusion, progressive relaxation through breathing has a positive effect on the archery athletes.

The purpose of the present study is to investigate cognitive characteristics of ADHD children by comparing their performances on KEDI-WISC according to age and EEG variables. Subjects were 56 ADHD children who visited Seoul National University Children's Hospital during the period from January, 1988 to March, 1989. Group differences on age and EEG variables were tested by ANOVA, and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis was performed to investigate how ADHD children were classified based on their performances on KEDI-WISC. The results Indicated that ADHD children showed low scores on Coding, Digit Span, and Comprehension subtests, suggesting their attention deficits and impulsivity. ADHD children were clustered Into three groups based on only FSIQ. In post-hoc tests three groups showed different cognitive strengths and weaknesses on KEDI-WISC. Group differences on age were not significant, and abnormal EEG group showed lower PIQ than normal EEG group, suggesting the possibility that their attention deficits were related to neurological factors.
Introduction: In this study, we compared sleep structure, EEG characteristic of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and normal controls which were matched in sex and age. Methods: Fifteen children (male:female=4:11) who complained snoring and were suspected to have sleep apnea and their age and sex matched normal controls (male:female=5:10) have been done nocturnal polysomnography (NPSG). Sleep parameters, sleep apnea variables and relative spectral components of EEG from NPSG have been compared between both groups. Results: Pediatric OSA group were distinguished from normal controls in terms of apnea index, respiratory disturbance index and nadir of oxyhemoglobulin desaturation. Pediatric OSA group showed increased percent of sleep stage 1, decreased rapid eye movement sleep percent and increased delta power in O1 EEG channel. However other sleep parameters and spectral powers were not different between two groups. Conclusion: In pediatric OSA group, sleep structure parameter disruption may be not prominent as the previous studies for adult OSA group because of including mild OSA data in diagnostic criteria. In addition, EEG changes might not be distinct due to low arousal index compared to adult OSA patients. We can observe general characteristics and particularity of pediatric OSA through this study.

Objectives: Pulse-Respiration Ratio has been used for estimating subject's Han-Yeol [寒熱] status since it mentioned in suwen [素問]. In practicing Pulse-Respiration Ratio over 5 means the status of Yeol [熱], Pulse-Respiration Ratio below 3 means the status of Han [寒]. We performed this study to examine the Optimum Standard for Measuring Pulse-Respiration Ratio on the Basis of Repeatability and Reproducibility. Methods: After subject's 5 minutes rest we measured subject's ECG, respiration pattern, EEG, EMG simultaneously. In this research examiner's number is two, subject's number is four, and the number of repeat is two. We calculated Pulse-Respiration Ratio through dividing Respiration cycle average by Pulse cycle average according to each standard including time section, $EEG(relative-{\alpha}$ density, $relative-{\beta}$ density, ${\alpha}/{\beta}$ and EMG. We analyzed these data through Gage R&R study using MINITAB 13.20 program and considered the results of below 30 %R&R and over 4 Number of Distinct Categories to have a significance. Results: 1. In the applying of time standard, Pulse-Respiration Ratio from section 3, 4, 6, 8 had a significant meaning in the aspect of Repeatability and Reproducibility. 2. In the applying of $EEG({\alpha}$ I , ${\beta}$ I , ${\alpha}/{\beta})$, EMG(E I) standard, there was no significant results. 3. In the applying of time standard(section 5, 6, 7), $EEG({\alpha}$ I , ${\beta}$ I , ${\alpha}/{\beta})$ and EMG(E I) standard simultaneously, Pulse-Respiration Ratio from ${\alpha}/{\beta}$ in section 6, ${\beta}$ I in section 8 had a significant meaning in the aspect of Repeatability and Reproducibility. Conclusions: We can suggest the Optimum Standard for Measuring Pulse-Respiration Ratio on the basis of Repeatability and Reproducibility as followings; 1. Pulse-Respiration Ratio Measuring time should be at least 15 minutes. 2. Applying of time(section 6, 8) and $EEG({\beta}$ I, ${\alpha}/{\beta})$ standard simultaneously is recommended considering reliability and validity but more study is needed. 3. EMG(E I) may be helpful to detect the segment of physical rest and exclude artifacts but more study is needed.
Purpose: Early prediction of prognosis of children resuscitated from cardiac arrest is a major challenge. We investigated the utility of electroencephalography (EEG) and laboratory studies for predicting of neurologic outcome in children resuscitated from cardiac arrest. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed medical records of patients who were resuscitated from cardiac arrest from 2006 to 2015 at the Gil Medical Center. Patients aged one month to 18 years were included. EEG analysis included background scoring, reactivity and seizure burden. EEG background was classified score 0 (normal/organized), score 1 (slow and disorganized), score 2 (discontinuous or burst suppression), and score 3 (suppressed and featureless). Neurologic outcome was evaluated by Pediatric Cerebral Performance Category (PCPC) at least 6 months after cardiac arrest. Results: Total 26 patients were evaluated. Nine patients showed good neurologic outcome (PCPC 1, 2, 3) and 17 patients showed poor neurologic outcome (PCPC 4, 5, 6). Patients of poor neurologic outcome group showed EEG background score 3 in 88.2%, whereas 44.4% in patients of good neurologic outcome group (P=0.028). Electrographic ictal discharges except non-convulsive status epilepticus were presented in 44.4% of good neurologic outcome group and 5.9% of poor neurologic outcome group (P=0.034). Ammonia and lactate levels were higher and pH levels were lower in poor outcome group than good neurologic outcome group. Conclusion: Suppressed and featureless EEG background is associated with poor neurologic outcome and electrographic seizures are associated with good neurologic outcome.

We characterized embryo early gene (EEG)-704 promoter of the silkworm Bombyx mori, which is specifically regulated in the development stages. To determine core promoter region, 10 different partial mutant clones were tested by luciferase assay in Sf9 cells. About 1.5 kb promoter shows higher luciferase activity than constitutive promoter (BmA3). Interestingly, EEG-704 shares the same DNA sequences with BmHsp20.8 by the result of BLAST analysis; its expression is also increased under heat shock condition. Development of such promoter inducible, directly or indirectly in the developmental-stage, is very useful in making recombinant proteins in transgenic silkworms.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at the PC8 on normal human beings by using power spectral analysis. Methods : EEG (Electroencephalogram) power spectrum exhibits site-specific and state-related differences in specific frequency bands. In this study, power spectrum was used as a measure of complexity. 32 channels EEG study was carried out in 20 subjects (20 males; age=26.8 years old). Results : In ${\alpha}(alpha)$ band, the power values at F7, F8, P3 channels(p<0.05) during the $PC_8-acupoint$ treatment significantly decreased. In ${\beta}(beta)$ band, the power values at F4, F8, P3 channels(P<0.05) during the PC8-acupoint treatment significantly decreased. In ${\delta}(delta)$ band, the power values at F7, F8, P3 Po2 channels(p<0.05) during the $PC_8-acupoint$ treatment significantly decreased. In ${\theta}(theta)$ band, the power values at F7, Fz, F4 F8, FTC1, FTC2, CP2, TT2, P3, Pz, Po2 channels(p<0.05) during the PC8-acupoint treatment significantly decreased. Conclusions : This results suggest that Electroacupuncture at the PC8 mostly affect the change on theta(11 channels) bands.
This study was to investigate the effect of EEG wave type on visual cortex of visual target according to position of fixation point on the Korean. Visual evoked potential system used the BIO-Pag and recorded to 586 computer. The illumination was 500 lux and the visual target was red light dot of 3 cm size. The results of the convergence and divergence as follows: The visual stimulation waves on the visual cortex have about 70% of delta wave, about 10% of beta wave, about 9% of theta wave and about 7% of alpha wave respectively. The convergence state was much more appeared the fast wave on the comparative of the divergence. Therefore, the convergence state was much more producted the beta and alpha wave on the comparative of the divergence. On the other hand, on the convergence and divergence, the histogram amplitude of EEG wave appeared almost the non-Gaussian shape. According to the phase analysis of amplitude of EEG wave almost all type was linear shape.

Previous studies on fear of crime used survey and interview to measure fear of crime. However, though these methods can measure fear of crime in past events, they cannot measure real time fear of crime. In this paper, we use EEG to measure fear of crime in real time. We measure and analyze the EEG of subjects watching the video and confirm the difference between three groups classified according to the degree of fear of crime. As a result, about two times more beta waves are shown when a group of subjects with a high degree of fear of crime watches the images of fear of crime and 1.5 times more beta waves are shown among the other groups. Although watching videos related to the crime increased the beta waves, the police video showed little increase in beta waves because the subjects can sense safety in the video even if it is related to crime.
