An electromagnetic band gap (EBG) metamaterial construction is presented. A construction of a multipath mitigating ground plane, based on the EBG metamaterial is described. A method of the ground plane application and installation, which provides the multipath mitigating without spoiling antenna element phase center stability, is suggested and explained. A designed construction of GNSS antenna module, which contains the multipath mitigating ground plane, made from the presented EBG metamaterial and installed in the described way is shown and parameters of the antenna module are provided.
The effects of yogurt supplementation with enzyme-bioconverted ginseng (EBG), ascorbic acid, and yeast extract on the bacterial counts of Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-5, and Bifidobacterium BB-12 were investigated to develop healthy yogurts with high probiotic counts during storage. In addition, the colors and viscosities of the yogurts were determined. EBG, ascorbic acid, and yeast extract did not affect S. thermophilus counts. EBG and ascorbic acid enhanced the viabilities of L. acidophilus LA-5 and Bifidobacterium BB-12 during storage. Yeast extract improved growth of L. acidophilus LA-5 and Bifidobacterium BB-12 during fermentation. EBG turned the yogurt into brown color. We conclude that supplementation of yogurt with EBG, ascorbic acid, and yeast extract may enhance its health-promoting functions by increasing the viability of probiotics, which can thus promote consumption of the yogurt.
To supply a power distribution network with stable power in a high-speed mixed mode system, simultaneous switching noise caused at the multilayer PCB and package structures needs to be sufficiently suppressed. The uni-planar compact electromagnetic bandgap (UC-EBG) structure is well known as a promising solution to suppress the power noise and isolate noise-sensitive analog/RF circuits from a noisy digital circuit. However, a typical UC-EBG structure has several severe problems, such as a limitation in the stop band's lower cutoff frequency and signal quality degradation. To make up for the defects of a conventional EBG structure, a partially located EBG structure with decoupling capacitors is proposed in this paper as a means of both suppressing the power noise propagation and minimizing the effects of the perforated reference plane on the signal quality. The proposed structure is validated and investigated through simulation and measurement in both frequency and time domains.

Recent premium smartphones commonly employ a metal frame and this trend is currently spreading over mid-range smartphones. However, the metal frame becomes a good coupling path of electromagnetic noises emitted from digital components in smartphones and then increases radio-frequency interference(RFI) to RF antennas located at top and bottom sides of smartphones. This paper proposed a metal frame with EBG(Electromagnetic Band Gap) structure to reduce the noise coupling to antenna by suppressing surface wave on the metal frame. By simulation, it is confirmed that the proposed metal frame with $7{\times}6$ mushroom-type EBG array pattern with multi-via can reduce the noise coupling to RF antenna by about 20 dB.

A dual-frequency dual-polarization (DFDP) antenna with high isolation between two ports by embedding $2{\times}1$ mushroom-like electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) cells is proposed. The equivalent circuit of a suspended microstrip line over $2{\times}1$ EBG cells is introduced. The numerical analysis from the equivalent circuit and measured results show that the microstrip line with embedded EBG cells has a distinctive and sharp rejection band and provides near 0 dB insertion loss outside the rejection band. By embedding the EBG cells under feedlines of a conventional DFDP antenna, the isolation between two ports of the antenna is enhanced more than 20 dB, as compared to that of a conventional DFDP antenna. The proposed DFDP antenna is fabricated and measured. The simulated and measured results show a good agreement. The measured polarization purity and gain of the antenna are 25 dB and 5.77 dBi at lower band, and 35 dB and 7.13 dBi at higher band, respectively.

In this study, we used EBG(electromagnetic band gap) reflector to change bi-directional radiation of circular polarization into uni-directional radiation of equiangular spiral antenna. When the height of spiral arm from EBG reflector is 0.07 wavelength of the lowest operating frequency, the axial ratio of the circular polarization was deteriorated. In this paper, we analyzed the magnitude and the time phase difference of $E_{\theta},E_{\phi}$ that generates right hand circle polarization that is co-polarization at +z direction and proposed the improving condition for axial ratio at all related frequency range. As a result, we obtained that the axial ratio was below 3[dB] at range of 3 ~ 10[dB], the gain was improved about 3[dB] with comparison to bi-directional radiation at free space, and $S_{11}$ was below -10[dB] at all related frequency range.

In this paper, a novel hexagonal-shaped electromagnetic bandgap(EBG) power plane for the suppression of the ground bounce noise(GBN) in high-speed circuits is proposed. The proposed structure consists of hexagonal-shaped unit cells and detoured bridges connecting the unit cells. The hexagonal-shaped unit cells could omni-directionally suppress the GBN in digital circuits. The fabricated power plane's omni-directional -30 dB suppression bandwidth is from 330 MHz to 5.6 GHz. Then the proposed structure suppresses electromagnetic interference(EMI) caused by the GBN within the stopband. As a result, the proposed structure is expected to be conducive solving EMI problem in high-speed circuits.

We proposed a novel electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) cell-embedded antenna structure for reducing the interference that radiates at the antenna edge in wireless access in vehicular environment (WAVE) communication systems for vehicle-to-everything communications. To suppress the radiation of surface waves from the ground plane and vehicle, EBG cells were inserted between micropatch arrays. A simulation was also performed to determine the optimum EBG cell structure located above the ground plane in a conformal linear microstrip patch array antenna. The characteristics such as return loss, peak gain, and radiation patterns obtained using the fabricated EBG cell-embedded antenna were superior to those obtained without the EBG cells. A return loss of 35.14 dB, peak gain of 10.15 dBi at 80°, and improvement of 2.037 dB max at the field of view in the radiation beam patterns were obtained using the proposed WAVE antenna.

This paper presents an analysis of the electromagnetic interference of a heterogeneous power bus where electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) cells are irregularly arranged. To mitigate electrical-noise coupling between high-speed circuits, the EBG structure is placed between parallel plate waveguide (PPW)-based power buses on which the noise source and victim circuits are mounted. We examine a noise suppression characteristic of the heterogeneous power bus in terms of scattering parameters. The characteristics of the dispersion and scattering parameters are compared in the sensitivity analysis of the EBG structure. Electric field distributions at significant frequencies are thoroughly examined using electromagnetic simulation based on a finite element method (FEM). The noise suppression characteristics of the heterogeneous power bus are demonstrated experimentally. The heterogeneous power bus achieves significant reduction of electrical-noise coupling compared to the homogeneous power buses that are adopted in conventional high-speed circuit design. In addition, the measurements show good agreement with the FEM simulation results.
