  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea and pulse energy of Chon, Gwan and Cheok. Methods The subjects of this study who had certain range of dysmenorrhea symptom. The degree of dysmenorrhea were assessed by Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Multidimensional Verbal Rating Scale (MVRS), Cox Menstrual Symptom Scale (CMSS) and measured by 3D Blood Pressure Pulse Analyzer(3D-MAC) tests at menstruation start date. Data analysis included descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression using the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results : The induced results are as follows; The induced results are as follows 1. There were no significant relationship between the pulse energy and the sum values of VAS, MVRS and checking part of severity of CMSS. 2. The frequency domain of CMSS were significantly associated with pulse energy. 3. In linear regression models, the model of Left Chon had the especially highest value of explanatory power. (R 2 = 0.517) Conclusions : The pulse energy changes are related to the symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea.

We evaluated changes of symptoms by Visual analog scale score (VAS), Multidimensional verbal rating scale (MVRS) and Verbal rating scale (VRS). Results: After treatments, the clinical symptoms such as dysmenorrhea (lower abdominal pain & lower back pain), lower abdominal fullness were significantly improved, VAS was decreased, but the improvement of scores on MVRS, VRS were unclear. Conclusions: This case report shows that Korean medical treatment is effective to treat secondary dysmenorrhea caused by HWWS.

Methods: The subjects of this study were 24 volunteers, suffering from dysmenorrhea, who were middle and high school students in Jeonbuk province. They were treated by Korean medicine, those were acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion and herbal medicine, for two months from July to December 2015. The results were investigated by the visual analogue scale (VAS) of overall pain, most severe pain and amount of the analgesic taken for menstrual period. The effects of treatment were assessed three times, those were before treatment, after treatment for 1 month and after treatment for 2 months, for two months. Results: The VAS score on dysmenorrhea was decreased significantly. Also, the VAS score on the disturbance in school activity was decreased significantly. The amount of analgesic taken for menstrual period was decreased, but not significantly. Conclusions: This study suggests that the Korean medicine treatment on the adolescent dysmenorrhea is effective.

  • Objective Primary dysmenorrhea occurs in more than 50% of women of reproductive age. This survey evaluated the effects of Menstrugole on the alleviation of primary dysmenorrhea. Methods This study was performed in western Iran between August 15 and December 15, 2017, in female students with primary dysmenorrhea. The students were randomly divided into 2 groups and received placebo or a Menstrugole capsule for 3 days in each of 2 menstrual cycles. The visual analog scale was used to assess pain severity. The ${\chi}^2$-test, one-way analysis of variance, and the paired t-test were used for statistical evaluation. Results We compared the severity of pain between the 2 groups. There was a significant change in the mean pain score during the first (P<0.001) and second months (P<0.001) after the use of Menstrugole, compared with that in the placebo group. Conclusion Menstrugole decreased pain severity in female students, and can be considered by health care providers for treatment of primary dysmenorrhea.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study protocol is firstly to investigate the status of Korean medical treatment of dysmenorrhea, and secondly to investigate effectiveness of the Clinical Pathway (CP) of dysmenorrhea and review the applicability. Methods: This is a multi-center observational study. The data will be prospectively collected from 14 Korean medicine clinics. 45 patients for each of the CP-applied and non-applied groups will be recruited to compare the degree of improvement in menstrual pain. All the diagnosis records, treatment methods, treatment results, adverse events, and medical expenses of patients with dysmenorrhea will be collected. We will investigate the proportion of patients who could be applied with CP, and the actual number of CP applications, and CP completion rate to evaluate the applicability. Additionally, the satisfaction survey will be used to collect feedback from medical staff members and patients. Results: The results of this study will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations. Conclusions: This study is expected to provide valuable data for application of standard Korean medicine clinical pathway for dysmenorrhea.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the clinical effect of Aroma Ceramic Moxibustion in the treatment of dysmenorrhea patients. Methods: We studied 53 women from 18 to 30 years old who visited Kyung-Hee university medical center from May, 2008 to October, 2008. We randomly divided women into two groups, We treated one group with Aroma ceramic moxibustion, and treated another group with Aroma moxibustion for 2 months. The severity of dysmenorrhea were measured by VAS(Visual Analogue Scale). And we measured temperature of patient's abdomen by DITI. Results: Moxibustion significantly decreased the severity of dysmenorrhea. After treatment, the temperature of CV3 get higher than before treatment. But there is no difference between Aroma Ceramic Moxibustion and Ceramic Moxibustion. Conclusion: This study shows that Moxibustion has remarkable effects on dysmenorrhea patients, but Aroma Ceramic moxibustion is not better than Aroma moxibustion.

  • Objectives We aimed to analyze menstrual pain clinical patterns and treatment characteristics in pediatric and adolescent patients under 18 years old treated for menstrual pain at a Korean medicine hospital. Methods We analyzed the medical records of pediatric and adolescent patients under 18, treated for menstrual pain from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2023. Results A total of 88 participants were included in the study, with a mean age of 15.3 ± 1.5 years. The most common diagnosis was unspecified dysmenorrhea. Among the 42 participants with recorded pain scores, the mean Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) for dysmenorrhea was 7.4 ± 1.0. Patients who received two or more treatments had an average of 6.3 ± 5.0 clinic visits. Treatment methods included herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion, pharmacopuncture, and electroacupuncture, in descending order of frequency. Conclusions It is necessary to analyze the clinical characteristics and status of adolescent dysmenorrhea patients in more Korean medical institutions. Additionally, research and promotion of Korean medicine treatments for adolescent dysmenorrhea are needed.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of dysmenorrhea care program by Korean traditional medicine on dysmenorrhiec juveniles. Methods: 47 adolescent dysmenorrhiec patients in local girls' high school took part in dysmenorrhea care program by Korean traditional medicine. The subjects were treated by acupuncture, ear-acupuncture, acupressure education, herbal extract medication and qigong exercise. The results were investigated by visual analogue scale(VAS), multidimensional verbal rating scale(MVRS) and verbal rating scale (VRS). Data was collected every three months from March, 2011 to March, 2012. Additionally satisfaction survey was conducted. Results: VAS score was reduced after treatment, but rebounded back to baseline after 6 months of discontinued dysmenorrhea care program. There was no significant difference of time and group interaction in linear mixed model analysis. MVRS and VRS outcomes showed similar pattern. Conclusions: Dysmenorrhea care program by Korean traditional medicine is effective in juveniles with dysmenorrhea for several months but not for long as nine months after treatment. However, the effect can last for three months at the very least.
