  • This paper proposes an adaptive control technique for the autopilot design of STT missile. Dynamics of the missile is highly nonlinear and the equilibrium point is vulnerable to change due to fast maneuvering. Therefore nonlinear control techniques are desirable for the autopilot design of the missile. The nonlinear controller requires the exact model to obtain satisfactory performance. Generally a look-up table is used for the dynamic coefficients of a missile, so there must be coefficients error during actual flight, and the performance of the nonlinear controller using these data can be degraded. The proposed adaptive control technique compensates the nonlinear controller with modeling error resulting from the error of aerodynamic data and disturbance. To investigate the usefulness, the proposed method is applied to autopilot design of STT missile through simulations.

  • Design lifetime of a wind turbine is required to be at least 20 years. The most important step to ensure the deign is to evaluate the loads on the wind turbine as accurately as possible. In this study, extreme design load of a offshore wind turbine using Garrad Hassan (GH) Bladed and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) FAST codes are calculated considering structural dynamic loads. These wind turbine aeroelastic analysis codes are high efficiency for the rapid numerical analysis scheme. But, these codes are mainly based on the mathematical and semi-empirical theories such as unsteady blade element momentum (UBEM) theory, generalized dynamic wake (GDW), dynamic inflow model, dynamic stall model, and tower influence model. Thus, advanced CFD-dynamic coupling method is also applied to conduct cross verification with FAST and GH Bladed codes. If the unsteady characteristics of wind condition are strong, such as extreme design wind condition, it is possible to occur the error in analysis results. The NREL 5 MW offshore wind turbine model as a benchmark case is practically considered for the comparison of calculated designed loads. Computational analyses for typical design load conditions such as normal turbulence model (NTM), normal wind profile (NWP), extreme operation gust (EOG), and extreme direction change (EDC) have been conducted and those results are quantitatively compared with each other. It is importantly shown that there are somewhat differences as maximum amount of 18% among numerical tools depending on the design load cases.

  • Normally in order to build a semi-active control system equipped with MR damper, the dynamic modeling of the damper is required to numerically predict its dynamic damping force and also its behavioral characteristics. For the dynamic modeling of the MR damper, this paper attempts to predict and evaluate its dynamic behavior by applying specifically both a power model and a Bingham model. Dynamic loading tests were performed on the squeeze type of damper specially designed for this research, and force-displacement hysteresis loops confirmed the effectiveness of the damper as a semi-active control device. In the meantime, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of each model applied, the model parameter for each model was identified. On the basis of the parameter, we derived the error ratio of the force-velocity relationship curve and the dynamic damping force, which was contrasted and compared with the experimental results of the squeeze type of damper. Finally, the squeeze type of MR damper developed in this research was proved to be valid as a semi-active control device, and also the evaluation of the two dynamic models showed they were working fine so that they were likely to be easily utilized to numerically predict the dynamic characteristics of any dampers with MR fluid as well as the squeeze type of MR damper.

  • Transmission error for a stepping motor-timing belt drive system is investigated experimentally and analytically. From FFT analysis of the experimental results, it is found that the transmission error consists of three periodic errors : (1) error by the stepping motor per one resolution angle theta.$_{m}$, (2) error by the pulley eccentricity per one revolution theta.$_{e}$, and (3) error by the meshing effect between the belt and the pulley teeth per one pitch revoltion theta.$_{p}$. In order to investigate the effects of some design parameters on the transmission error, the dynamic models of the stepping motor-timing belt drive system are derived by Bondgraph. According to the simulation results, as the belt total tension increases, theta.$_{m}$ and theta.$_{e}$ decrease due to the nonlinearity of the belt. In adition, the numerical and experimental results show that theta.$_{m}$ and theta.$_{e}$ of the loaded case are larger than those of the unloaded case. The analytical results are in good accordance with the experimental results.sults.s.sults.

  • A new sort of learning algorithm named whole learning algorithm is proposed to simulate the nonlinear and dynamic behavior of RC members for the estimation of structural integrity. A mathematical technique to solve the multi-objective optimization problem is applied for the learning of the feedforward neural network, which is formulated so as to minimize the Euclidean norm of the error vector defined as the difference between the outputs and the target values for all the learning data sets. The change of the outputs is approximated in the first-order with respect to the amount of weight modification of the network. The governing equation for weight modification to make the error vector null is constituted with the consideration of the approximated outputs for all the learning data sets. The solution is neatly determined by means of the Moore-Penrose generalized inverse after summarization of the governing equation into the linear simultaneous equations with a rectangular matrix of coefficients. The learning efficiency of the proposed algorithm from the viewpoint of computational cost is verified in three types of problems to learn the truth table for exclusive or, the stress-strain relationship described by the Ramberg-Osgood model and the nonlinear and dynamic behavior of RC members observed under an earthquake.

  • In a vacuum circuit breaker mechanism, a spring-actuated linkage system is used to satisfy the desired opening and closing characteristics of electric contacts. Because the opening and the closing dynamics of electric contacts is determined by such a linkage system, the stiffness, free length and attachment points of a spring become the important design parameters. In this paper, based on the dynamic model of the circuit breaker using a multibody dynamic program ADAMS, a optimal design procedure of determining the spring design parameters is presented. The proposed procedure is applied to the design of an opening spring for satisfying the specified opening characteristics.

  • In the fields of pattern recognition such as speech recognition, several new techniques using Artifical Neural network Models have been proposed and implemented. In particular, the Multilayer Perception Model has been shown to be effective in static speech pattern recognition. But speech has dynamic or temporal characteristics and the most important point in implementing speech recognition systems using Artificial Neural Network Models for continuous speech is the learning of dynamic characteristics and the distributed cues and contextual effects that result from temporal characteristics. But Recurrent Multilayer Perceptron Model is known to be able to learn sequence of pattern. In this paper, the results of applying the Recurrent Model which has possibilities of learning tedmporal characteristics of speech to phoneme recognition is presented. The test data consist of 144 Vowel+ Consonant + Vowel speech chains made up of 4 Korean monothongs and 9 Korean plosive consonants. The input parameters of Artificial Neural Network model used are the FFT coefficients, residual error and zero crossing rates. The Baseline model showed a recognition rate of 91% for volwels and 71% for plosive consonants of one male speaker. We obtained better recognition rates from various other experiments compared to the existing multilayer perceptron model, thus showed the recurrent model to be better suited to speech recognition. And the possibility of using Recurrent Models for speech recognition was experimented by changing the configuration of this baseline model.

  • One problem of the Discrete Element Method is the assumption of a spherical particle shape, which reduces the computing time but significantly limits the application of the DEM to analysis. This limitation can be overcome by a recently developed rigid-rod model. However, the rigid-rod model has an essential problem related with friction: it always contains friction error because of the bumpy surface. To overcome this issue, we suggest a superposed rigid-rod model in this paper. The superposed rigid-rod model is notably consistent with the theoretical value in terms of the velocity and angular velocity after the collision. The estimated error is negligible(less than 2%). Then, the developed model is applied to hopper discharging. The developed model shows no problem in the discharging flow from the hopper.

  • A hybrid turbulence model has developed by combining a sub-grid scale model using dynamic k equation in LES with k-𝜔 SST model of RANS equation. To ascertain potential applicability of the hybrid turbulence model, fully developed turbulent channel flows at Re𝜏=180 have been simulated of which computational domain has a top wall with coarse cells and a bottom wall with fine cells. The streamwise mean velocity and turbulent intensity profiles showed a good agreement with DNS data when using the hybrid model rather than using a single model in k-𝜔 SST or dynamic k equation models. Computational simulations of turbulent flows around KVLCC2 with a pre-swirl duct have been mainly performed using the hybrid turbulence model. Compared to the results obtained from RANS simulation with k-𝜔 SST model as well as LES with dynamic k equation SGS model, turbulent wakes of the duct in the present simulation using the hybrid turbulence model were very similar to that of LES. Also, the resistances acting on hull, rudder and duct in hybrid turbulence model were similar to those in RANS simulation whereas the viscous forces acting on the hull in LES had a significant error due to coarse cells inappropriate to the sub-grid scale model.

  • Nonlinear equation of motion of the flexible manipulator are derived by the Lagrangian method in symbolic form to better understand the structure of the dynamic model. The resulting equations of motion have a structure which is useful to reduce the number of terms calculated, to check correctness, or to extend the model to high order. A manipulator with a flexible 4 bar link mechanism is a constrained system whose equations are sensitive to numerical integration error. This constrained system is solved using the null space matrix of the constraint Jacobian matrix. Singular value decomposition is a stable algorithm to find the null space matrix.
