Tungsten heavy metal is characterized by a high density and novel combination of strength and ductility. Among them, 90W-7Ni-3Fe is used for applications, where the high specific weight of the material plays an important role. They are used as counterweights, rotating inertia members, as well as fur defense purposes(kinetic energy Penetrators, etc.). Because of these applications, it is essential to detemine the dynamic characteristics of tungsten alloy. In this paper, Explicit FEM(finite element method) is employed to investigate the dynamic characteristics of tungsten heavy metal under base of stress wave propagation theory for SHPB, and the model of specimen is divided into two parts to understand the phenomenon that stress wave penetrates through each tungsten base and matrix. This simulation results were compared to experimental one and through this program, the dynamic stress-strain curve of tungsten heavy metal can be obtained using quasi static stress-strain curve of pure tungsten and matrix.

The suitable estimation of the filter width in the dynamic eddy viscosity model were investigated in high Reynolds number channel flow. In this study, the improvement on matters by optimizing the test filter shape was attempted through the numerical experiment. The way that select optimum test filter width is recommended. Some test filters, one is based on a discrete representation of the top-hat filter and another are based on a high-order filtering operation, are evaluated in simulations of the turbulent channel flow at Reynolds number 1020, based on friction velocity and channel half width. It appears that the estimation of test filter width practically can decrease the dissipative nature of dynamic eddy viscosity model with explicit test filter. It shows that the value of the filter width ratio used in the dynamic procedure must match the properties of the test filter actually used in the calculation.

Solving a system of linear or non-linear equations is required to analyze any kind of structures. There are many ways to solve a system of equations, and they can be classified as implicit and explicit techniques. The explicit methods eliminate round-off errors and use less memory. The dynamic relaxation method (DR) is one of the powerful and simple explicit processes. The important point is that the DR does not require to store the global stiffness matrix, for which it just uses the residual loads vector. In this paper, a new approach to the DR method is expressed. In this approach, the damping, mass and time steps are similar to those of the traditional method of dynamic relaxation. The difference of this proposed method is focused on the method of calculating the damping. The proposed method is expressed such that the time step is constant, damping is equal to zero except in steps with maximum energy and the concentrated damping can be applied to minimize the energy of system in this step. In this condition, the calculation of damping in all steps is not required. Then the volume of computation is reduced. The DR method for form-finding of membrane structures is employed in this paper. The form-finding of the three plans related to the membrane structures with different loading is considered to investigate the efficiency of the proposed method. The numerical results show that the convergence rate based on the proposed method increases in all cases than other methods.
Traditionally used analytical approach to predict the fatigue failure of reinforced concrete (RC) structure is generally conservative and has certain limitations. The nonlinear finite element method (FEM) offers less expensive solution for fatigue analysis with sufficient accuracy. However, the conventional implicit dynamic analysis is very expensive for high level computation. Whereas, an explicit dynamic analysis approach offers a computationally operative modelling to predict true responses of a structural element under periodic loading and might be perfectly matched to accomplish long life fatigue computations. Hence, this study simulates the fatigue behaviour of RC beams with finite element (FE) assemblage presenting a simplified explicit dynamic numerical solution to show computer aided fatigue behaviour of RC beam. A commercial FEM package, ABAQUS has been chosen for this complex modelling. The concrete has been modelled as a 8-node solid element providing competent compression hardening and tension stiffening. The steel reinforcements are simulated as two-node truss elements comprising elasto-plastic stress-strain behaviour. All the possible nonlinearities are duly incorporated. Time domain analysis has been adopted through an automatic Newmark-β time incremental technique. The program consists of twelve RC beams to visualize the real behaviour during fatigue process and to obtain the reliability of the study. Both the numerical and experimental results indicate a redistribution of stresses along the time and damage accumulation of beam which severely affect the serviceability and ultimate capacity of RC beam. The output of the FEM analysis demonstrates good match with the experimental consequences which affirm the efficacy of the computer aided model. The controlled fatigue damage evolution at service fatigue load limits makes the FE model an efficient tool in predicting high cycle fatigue behaviour of RC structures.
Due to the scarcity of extortionate experimental data, fatigue failure of the reinforced concrete (RC) element might be achieved economically adopting nonlinear finite element (FE) analysis as an alternative approach. However, conventional implicit dynamic analysis is expensive, quasi-static method overlooks interaction effects and inertia, direct cyclic analysis computes stabilized responses. Apart from this, explicit dynamic analysis may provide a numerical operating system for factual long-term responses. The study explores the fatigue behavior based on a simplified explicit dynamic solution employing nonlinear time domain analysis. Among fourteen RC beams, one beam is selected to validate under static loading, one under fatigue with the experimental study and other twelve to check the detail fatigue behavior. The SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) analysis has been carried out to pinpoint the detail scenario in the adoption of numerical approach as an alternative to the experimental study. Excellent agreement of FE and experimental results is seen. The 3D nonlinear RC beam model at service fatigue limits is truthful to be used as an expedient contrivance to envisage the precise fatigue behavior. The simplified analysis approach for RC beam under fatigue offers savings in computation to predict responses providing acceptable accuracy rather than the complicated laboratory investigation. At higher frequency, the flexural failure occurs a bit earlier gradually compared to the repeated loading case of lower frequency. The deflection increases by 6%-10% at the end of first cycle for beams with increasing frequency of cyclic loading. However, at the end of fatigue loading, greater deflection occur earlier for higher load range because of more rapid stiffness degradation. For higher frequency, a slight boost in concrete compressive strains at an initial stage of loading has been seen indicating somewhat stepper increment. Stiffness degradation in larger loading cycle at same duration escalates the upsurge of the rate of strain in case of higher frequency.
In this paper, semi-rigid elasto-plastic post-buckling analysis of a space frame was performed using various explicit arc-length methods. Various explicit arc-length methodsand a large-deformation and small-strain elasto-plastic 3D space frame element with semi-rigid connections and plastic hinges were developed. This element can be appliedto both explicit and implicit numerical algorithms. In this study, the Dynamic Relaxation method was adopted in the predictor and corrector processesto formulate an explicit arc-length algorithm. The developed "explicit-predictor" or "explicit-corrector" were used in the elasto-plastic post-buckling analysis. The Eulerian equations for a beam-column with finite rotation, which considers the bowing effects, were adopted for the elastic system and extended to theinelastic system with a plastic hinge concept. The derived tangent stiffness matrix was asymmetrical due to the finite rotation. The joint connection elements were introduced for semi-rigidity using a static condensation technique. Semi-rigid elasto-plastic post-buckling analyses were carried out to demonstrate the potential of the developed explicit arc-length method and advanced space frame element in terms of accuracy and efficiency.

The dynamic explicit finite element method and the static implicit finite element method are applied effectively to analyze total auto-body panel stamping processes, which include the forming stage , the trimming stage and the spring-back stage.\The explicit time integration method has better merits in the forming stage including highly complicated three-dimensional contact conditions. On the contrary, the implicit time integration method is better for analyzing spring-back since the complicated contact conditions are removed and the computing time to get the final static state is short. In this work, brief descriptions of the formulation and the factor study are presented. Further, the simulated results for the total auto-body panel stamping processes are shown and discussed. The formability and the weld line movement in stamping with Tailor Welded Blanks were investigated through QTR-OTR-FRT.

Recently tube hydroforming has been widely applied to the automotive industries due to its several advantages over conventional methods. In this paper, attention is paid to comparison of an implicit and an explicit finite element method widely used for numerical simulation of a hydroforming process. For an explicit FEM, a huge amount of computational time is required because of the very small time increment to solve a quasi-static problem. Hence, when an explicit FEM is used fDr a hydroforming process, it is general to convert the real problem to a virtual problem with a different processing time and mass density by appropriate scaling factor. However it is difficult to figure out how large the scaling should be adopted enough to ignore the dynamic effects and maintain the desired accuracy. In this paper, the comparison of the results obtained from both methods focus on the accuracy of the predicted geometrical shape and the stress with various scaling factors which are applied to analyze hydroforming process of an automobile lower arm.
In this paper, we present a new explicit procedure using periodic cubic B-spline interpolation polynomials to solve linear and nonlinear dynamic equation of motion governing single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems. In the proposed approach, a straightforward formulation was derived from the approximation of displacement with B-spline basis in a fluent manner. In this way, there is no need to use a special pre-starting procedure to commence solving the problem. Actually, this method lies in the case of conditionally stable methods. A simple step-by-step algorithm is implemented and presented to calculate dynamic response of SDOF systems. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated with four examples. The results were compared with those from the numerical methods such as Duhamel integration, Linear Acceleration and also Exact method. The comparison shows that the proposed method is a fast and simple procedure with trivial computational effort and acceptable accuracy exactly like the Linear Acceleration method. But its power point is that its time consumption is notably less than the Linear Acceleration method especially in the nonlinear analysis.
