  • This paper investigates the design of multi-winding coupled inductor for minimum inductor current ripple. Based on the general circuit model of coupled inductor together with the operating principles of dc-dc converter, the relationship between the ripple size of inductor current and the coupling factor is derived under the different duty ratio. The optimal coupling factor of n-phase multi-winding coupled inductor which corresponds to a minimum inductor ripple current becomes -(1/n-1), i.e. a complete inverse coupling without leakage inductance, as the duty ratio of steady-state operating point approaches 1/n, 2/n, ${\cdots}$ or (n-1)/n. In an opposite manner, the optimal coupling factor value of zero, i.e. zero mutual inductance, is required when the duty ratio of steady-state operating point approaches either zero or one. Therefore, coupled inductors having optimal coupling factor can minimize the ripple current of inductor and inductor size.

  • This paper presents a maximum power point tracking algorithm for Photovoltaic array using only instantaneous output current information. The conventional Hill climbing method of peak power tracking has a disadvantage of oscillations about the maximum power point. To overcome this problem, we have developed a algorithm, that will estimate the duty ratio corresponding to maximum power operation of solar cell. The estimation of the optimal duty ratio involves, finding the duty ratio at which integral value of output current is maximum. For the estimation, we have used the well know Lagrange's interpolation method. This method can track maximum power point quickly even for changing solar insolations and avoids oscillations after reaching the maximum power point.

  • The configuration of intake port is a dominant factor of inlet air flow and mixture formation in an engine. In this study, as an available technology to optimum intake port, the flow box system using resine has been applied. So we presents a methodology for estimating inlet flow characteristics in this paper. This quantified experimental result shows good agreements with visualization data in a cylinder. We obtained the optimal value of swirl ratio and flow coefficient under steady flow rig test for new development of intake port for heavy-duty engine. From this results, the cylinder heat with a good evaluated swirl flow characteristics was developed and adapted for a 11L heavy-duty engine using the liquid phase LPG injection (LPLi) system. This .research expects to clarify major factor that make the intake port efficiently.

  • Hydrogen gas has several merits such as lower ignition energy, wide flammability and shorter quenching distance. It leads to high thermal efficiency but backfire occurrence. In this study, feasibility of expansion of BFL(Back-Fire Limit) equivalence ratio and combustion characteristics by a dilution of hydrogen fuel are experimently examined by using experimental heavy duty single cylinder hydrogen fueled engine. As results, it is found that BFL equivalence ratio is expanded to rich range and torque is increased.

  • The use of BLDC motor in Vehicle and industrial field, it is operated by continuous and intermittent driving. When the intermittent driving is occurred by the rise and fall of temperature repeatedly, it was represented by different characteristics in case of continuous driving. So, it is very important that heat source estimation according to the duty ratio. In this paper, temperature characteristics according to the operating method of BLDCM was calculated by using the thermal equivalent circuit, and the validity of the study was demonstrated as compared to the calculated and experimental results.

Based on the general circuit model of coupled inductor together with the operating principles of dc-dc converter, the relationship between the ripple size of inductor current and the coupling factor is derived under the different duty ratio. The optimal coupling factor which corresponds to a minimum inductor ripple current becomes -0.5, i.e. a complete inverse coupling without leakage inductance, as the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches 1/3 or 2/3. In an opposite manner, the optimal coupling factor value of zero, i.e. zero mutual inductance, is required when the steady-state duty ratio operating point approaches either zero or one. Coupled inductors having optimal coupling factor can minimize the ripple current of inductor and battery current resulting in a reliable and efficient operation of battery chargers.

  • The configuration of intake port and piston is a dominant factor of inlet air flow and mixture formation in an engine cylinder, resepectively. This study has analyzed intake port and piston characteristics for swirl flow of a heavy-duty LPG engine. As an available technology to optimize intake port, the steady flow rig test has been applied for measuring swirl ratio and mean flow coefficient. And we measured the mean velocity and turbulence intensity of swirl flow under motoring condition in transparent engine cylinder by backward scattering LDV system. From these results, the piston and cylinder head with a good evaluated swirl flow characteristics were developed and adapted fur a 11L heavy-duty engine using the liquid phase LPG injection (LPLI) system. The obtained results are expected to be a fundamental data for developing intake port and piston.

  • Electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM) is a very recent technique in the fabrication of the micro-electro-mechanical system ( MEMS ) devices. This paper presents the experimental results of the machining of micro-holes on pyrex glass substrates by use of ECDM. Electrolyte is used with a KOH aqueous solution, cathode with copper, anode with platinum, and tool feed system is applied with gravity feed system. Already established experimental results were taken under the condition of constant voltage frequency. However in this paper, the effect of variation of the voltage frequency and duty ratio is considered. In this experiment, it is measured the ECDM performances with variation of the voltage frequency and duty ratio under the conditions of constant other machining variables. ECDM performances are described by the hole depth, and the top hole diameter.
