This study is investigate the bending behavior of real size RC beams strengthened with carbon fiber sheets. For experimental study, 1 control beam and 8 strengthened beams of real size(4 NU-beams and 4 U-beams) are tested and compared. NU-beam has not a V-shaped band and V-beam has a V-shaped band. The variables of experiment are composed of the number of carbon fiber sheets, the existence of U-shaped band, and four point loading, etc. The experimental results showed that the strengthening system with U-shaped band controls the premature debonding and provides a more ductile failure mode than the strengthening system without V-shaped band. It can be found from the load-deflection curves that as the number of fiber sheets is increased, the maximum strength and the flexural rigidity is increased. For the strengthening method with carbon fiber sheets of the real size RC beams, it is required the finding a solution to the bonding problem.
Ductility of open piled wharves under reversed cyclic loads has been investigated. Experimental testing of five wharf models having a scale of about 1:4 was conducted under the application of horizontal reversed cyclic loading. The experiments were designed to focus on the horizontal ultimate load, ductility and failure mode of the considered wharf models. Nonlinear numerical analyses using the finite element method were also performed on numerical models representing the experimentally tested wharves. The results of the experimental tests showed that open piled wharves possessed favourable ductile behaviour and that their load bearing capacity did not depreciate until a ductility factor of 3 to 4 was reached. The numerical analysis showed that the relative rotation that took place at the joints between the steel piles and the R.C. beam was responsible for a considerable portion of the total horizontal deformation of the wharves. Therefore, it was concluded that introducing the joint stiffness in calculating the deformations of open piled wharves was important to achieve reasonable accuracy.

In this study, the behavior of R/C beams strengthened with carbon fiber laminate (CFL) is analyzed from the test results. CFL is attractive for this application due to its good tensile strength and low weight. Test parameters are the width and the thickness of CFL and repair of damaged specimen. The failure mode and ultimate load are analyzed from these measured data. Test results show that the peak load of specimens strengthened with CFL is increased to 1.27~2.04 times that of non-rehabilitation specimen. The wider lap width, larger amount of CFL, the larger strength is obtained. But the ductile behavior of the rehabilitated specimens is inversely proportional to the CFL thickness.

Mechanical characteristics of the STS 304 which is heat resistance steel were investigated after artificial aging at $650^{\circ}C$ with 1,000 hours. Tensile test specimens and small test pieces were done artificial aging up to 1,000 hours in the high temperature atmospheric environment. The results present that as the aging time increased, tensile properties were deteriorated. In the case of failure mechanism, the configuration of the fractography presented drastic change from ductile to brittle with aging time. $M_{23}C_6$ carbide leading to the change of the mechanical properties and fracture mode of the aged STS 304 steel continuously precipitated along the grain boundaries of austenite microstructure.
Creep tests of the TiC particulate reinforced Al composite have been conducted in the temperature ranges from 200 to $500^{\circ}C$. The steady-state cree rate of the composite depended strongly on the temperature and ap' plied stress. The stress exponent for the steady state creep rate of the composites was approximately 17.5 and the activation anergy was calculated to be 390KJ/mol. The steady-state creep equation could be written as $\acute{\varepsilon}_{ss}$$$(s^{-1})=1.5{\times}10^{-9}\;{\sigma}^{17.5}\exp(-390000/RT)$$. Fracture surface examination showed that the fracture mode of the particulate reinforced composite was ductile by plastic tearing of the aluminum matrix and TiC particle interfaces were offered as sites for crack.

In this paper 35- and 72-story tube system and trussed tube system were designed and their seismic performances were evaluated by nonlinear static analysis. According to the analysis results, the tube system structures retained high stiffness and strength; however they showed brittle failure mode due to the yielding of columns. In the case of trussed tube system, columns in the side-side buckled first followed by the buckling of the braces. When buckling-restrained braces were applied, plastic hinges formed in the lower stories gradually spreads to the higher stories, resulting in ductile behavior.
Amorphous alloys, in addition to being promising materials for a variety of practical applications, provide an excellent test bed for evaluating our understanding of the underlying physics on deformation in amorphous solids. Like many amorphous materials, amorphous alloys can exhibit either homogeneous or inhomogeneous deformation depending on the stress level. The mode of deformation has a strong influence on whether the material behavior is classified as ductile or brittle. It was observed that the characteristics of these deformations are largely dependent on the atomic-scale structures of the alloys and determine the amount of the plastic deformation prior to failure. In this study, the structural features that control the homogeneous deformation of amorphous alloys are outlined on the basis on experiments and molecular dynamics simulations.

The contents of this paper include a non-destructive technique for evaluating the degradation of the boiler superheater tube in a fossil power plant through an electrochemical polarization test. Correlation between Ip of polarization parameter and SP-DBTT for the superheater tubes in long-term use was obtained. 1.0Cr-0.5Mo steel was degraded by softening, and the degree of degradation was dependent upon carbides with Cr and Mo elements. Since brittle fracture at low temperature and ductile fracture mode at high temperature were shown, similarity between standard Charpy and small punch tests could be found. In addition, SP-DBTT showing the degree of degradation was higher, as the time-in use of the materials got longer. Electrolyte including picric acid of 1.3 g in distilled water of 100ml at 25.deg. C temperature and sodium tridecylbenzene sulfonate with 1g could be applied to evaluate the degradation of 1.0Cr-0.5Mo steel by means of the electrochemical polarization test. Ip and Ipa values measured through the electrochemical test are the appropriate parameters for representing the degradation of the superheater tube(1.0Cr-0.5Mo steel) for the fossil power plant. It is poassible to evaluate the degradation of materials with different time histories electrochemically, by Ip value only, at field test.
The effects of aging time on the microstructure and shear strength of the Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC)/Ag pad/Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold (ENIG)/BGA solder joints were investigated through isothermal aging at $150^{\circ}C$ for 1000 h with conventional Sn-37Pb and Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu. $Ni_3Sn_4$ intermetallic compound (IMC) layers was formed at the interface between Sn-37Pb solder and LTCC substrate as-reflowed state, while $(Ni,Cu)_3Sn_4$ IMC layer was formed between Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu solder and LTCC substrate. Additional $(Cu,Ni)_6Sn_5$ layer was found at the interface between the $(Ni,Cu)_3Sn_4$ layer and Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu solder after aging at $150^{\circ}C$ for 500 h. Thickness of the IMC layers increased and coarsened with increasing aging time. Shear strength of both solder joints increased with increasing aging time. Failure mode of BGA solder joints with LTCC substrate after shear testing revealed that shear strength of the joints depended on the adhesion between Ag metallization and LTCC. Fracture mechanism of Sn-37Pb solder joint was a mixture of ductile and pad lift, while that of Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu solder joint was a mixture of ductile and brittle $(Ni,Cu)_3Sn_4$ IMC fracture morphology. Failure mechanisms of LTCC/Ag pad/ENIG/BGA solder joints were also interpreted by finite element analyses.
Evaluation of stability in traditional designing of reinforced soil structures is executed by examination of internal and external stability. Analysis of internal stability is for pull-out and ductile strength. Analysis of external stability is for settlement, overturning and sliding. To minimize inherent uncertainties of soil properties and analytical model, reliability analysis was developed recently. In this study, reliability analysis method considering simultaneous failure probability for various failure mode of internal and external stability is proposed. By applying uni-modal bounds, Stability of system reliability of reinforced soil structures is evaluated by integrating multi failure mode for various analytical model. Because of complex consideration for various failure shapes and modes, it is possible to secure advanced safety by using simultaneous failure probability. And evaluation of reinforced soil structure is executed by representative index, simultaneous failure probability, than previous method.
