  • A wide-band multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz) operation is proposed for premium indoor access points (IAPs). Typically, an omni-directional pattern is used for dipole antennas and a directional radiation pattern is used for patch antennas. In this paper, both antenna types were used to compare their performance with that of the proposed $2{\times}2$ MIMO antenna. We simulated and measured the performance of the MIMO antenna, including the isolation, envelope correlation coefficient (ECC), mean effective gain (MEG) for the IAPs, and the throughput, in order to determine its communication quality. The performance of the antennas was analyzed according to the ECC and MEG. The proposed antenna has sufficient performance and excellent characteristics, making it suitable for IAPs. We analyzed the communication performance of wireless networks using the throughput data of a typical office environment. The network throughput of an 802.11n device was used for the comparison and was conducted according to the antenna type. The results showed that the values of the ECC, MEG, and the throughput have unique characteristics in terms of their directivity, antenna gains, isolation, etc. This paper also discusses the communication performance of various aspects of MIMO in multipath situations.

  • This paper presents a novel ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna that rejects narrow and broad bands and is suitable for wireless communications. The base of the proposed antenna has a circular patch that can cover the UWB frequency range (3.1~10.6 GHz). The interference issues caused by co-existence within the UWB operation frequency are overcome by a design that uses a parallel-coupled asymmetric dual-line with a circular monopole antenna. The proposed antenna showed a stable radiation pattern, realized gain and reflection coefficient lower than -10 dB across the UWB operation bandwidth except for 5.15~5.85 GHz and 7.25~8.4 GHz. The fabrication, simulation, and measurement results obtained for the proposed antenna were in good agreement with the expected values.

  • In this paper, we considered a design method of a circular polarization (CP) antenna for UHF (ultra high frequency) RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) readers. The antenna is a dual-fed circular microstrip patch which produces right-handed CP. Quadrature hybrid coupler is used for dual feeding. The outputs of the coupler and circular patch are connected through copper wires, and the inductive reactance produced by the connecting wires is compensated by a ring-shaped slot inserted inside the circular patch. The effects of the geometrical parameters of the proposed antenna on the antenna performance are examined, and the parameters are adjusted to be suitable for the operation in North American UHF RFID band (902-928 MHz), which includes domestic UHF RFID band. The antenna is fabricated, and the experiment results reveal a frequency band of 854-993 MHz for a voltage standing wave ratio < 2. The fabricated antenna is connected to a commercial RFID reader, and it showed a good performance of tag identification.

The peak antenna gains are measured 2.86 dBi in GPS(1.57 GHz), and 3.49 dBi in WiBro(2.35 GHz), and 3.71 dBi in WLAN(2.44 GHz).

  • In this paper, a design method for a dual dipole antenna for an operation in the frequency band of 470-806 MHz for indoor digital TV (DTV) is studied. The proposed antenna is composed of two planar dipoles connected by parallel strip line, and the antenna is fed by a microstrip line. By employing different lengths of dipoles, a broadband characteristics is obtained, and the antenna is size-reduced by bending both ends of the longer dipole. The effects of each parameters on the antenna performance are examined by simulation, and the parameters are optimized for the DTV use. A prototype antenna with optimized parameters for the indoor DTV use is fabricated on an FR4 substrate and tested experimentally. The experimental results show that the frequency band for a VSWR < 2 ranges 458-864 MHz (61.4%, bandwidth 406 MHz, 1.89:1), and it corresponds fairly well with the simulated band 448-868 MHz (63.8%, bandwidth 420 MHz, 1.94:1).

  • In this paper, a two-phase DZRCD(Dual Zero Vector Modes RCD) technique is proposed to develope the problem of a conventional two-phase RCD-PWM (Random Centered Distribution PWM) which gives the power spectra of narrow band range in the high modulation index (M). In the proposed DZRCD technique, the zero vector $V_0$ is selected as $V_0$(111) for M$\geqq$0.8. Also, $V_0$ is selected as $V_0$(000) for the modulation indices < 0.8. For the unplementation of the proposed method, a 16-bit micro-controller Cl67 was used and the experiments were conducted with the 1.5kw induction motor under no load condition. The experimental results show that the voltage / current spectra is spread to a wide band range, and the switching noise of motor is reduced by the proposed method compared to the conventional random operation.

  • This paper presents dual-mode ring-resonator bandpass filter using LUC of artificial-transmission-lines. The conventional ring-resonator bandpass filter has limitation in miniaturization because the conventional ring-resonator is based on a one wavelength operation, and problem due to undesire harmonics. The ring-resonator bandpass filter is miniaturized and show higher order mode rejection by configuring a ring-resonator with LUC of artificial-transmission-lines. The two-stage bandpass filter is designed and fabricated with a ring-resonator and input/output interdigital coupled line. A fabricated filter shows dual-mode, rejection of whole ultra wide band, sharp skirt characteristics and has ring area reduced by 60 % compared to the conventional ring-resonator bandpass filter.

  • Tx/Rx dual microstrip array antennas for satellite communications are designed, fabricated, and measured in this paper. They have a Right Handed Circular Polarization (RHCP) for Tx and Left Handed Circular Polarization (LHCP) for Rx. Two stacked patches are used for wideband characteristics and corner-truncated square patches are adopted for a circular polarization. To enhance bandwidth characteristics of a circular polarization, 2${\times}$1 sequential rotation mays are applied. From the measured results, 8${\times}$1 microstrip may antennas have a good agreement with those of the simulation. Therefore the array antennas are applicable to satellite communication antennas, active phased may antennas, and radiators in other antennas.

  • In this paper, a dual-band integer-N frequency divider is proposed for 2.4/5.2 GHz multi-standard wireless local area networks. It consists of a multi-modulus imbalance phase switching prescaler and two all-stage programmable counters. It is able to provide dual-band operation with high resolution while maintaining a low power consumption. This frequency divider is integrated with a 5 GHz VCO for multi-standard applications. Measurement results show that the VCO with frequency divider can work at 5.2 GHz with a total power consumption of 22 mW.

  • For dualband operation, it can be done by loading two pair of slits in the equilateraltriangular patch, one embeded close to the side edges of the patch and the other inserted at the bottom edge of the patch. The frequency ratio of the two operating frequencies can be tuned by varing the positions and lengths of the inserted slots at the bottom edge of the patch. While the calculated frequency ratio of the antenna by Ensemble 5.0 is $1.66 ({f_10}=1.928GHz, {f_20}=3.2GHz)$, the measured one is 2.04 $({f_10}=1.6806 GHz, {f_20}=3.435 GHz)$. The error in the frequency ratio is due on the fabrication dimension and feeding position error as well as on the permittivity dispersion effect.
