Fine-size exposed aggregate portland cement concrete pavements (FEACP) have surface texture of exposed aggregate by removing upper 2$\sim$3mm mortar of surface of which curing is delayed by using delay-setting agent. FEACPs have advantages of maintaining low-noise and adequate skid-resistance level during the performance period than general portland cement concrete pavements. It is necessary to ensure the durability environmental loading to prevent unexpected distress during the service life of FEACP. In the process of curing, volume change accompanied change in by moisture and temperature could be an important cause of crack in concrete to construct for successful FEACP, The use of chloride containing deicer may accelerate defects of concrete pavement, such as crack and scaling. This study aim to evaluate environmental loading resistance of FEACP, based on the estimation of shrinkage-crack-control-capability by moisture evaporation and scaling by deicer in freeze-thaw reaction.

It was found that test piece heated rapidly by 3 kW microwave for 5 minutes satisfies the targeted temperature and the percentage of moisture content, and the highest rate of weight increase is obtained in case of 120 minute immersion in the mixture of phosphates and heterocyclic compounds, from the result of such analysis as: kiln drying schedule, flame retardent by flammability test, insect resistance by termites, and permeability of combined penetrant for the wood after assigning multifunctional finish by immersing conifer structural frame, which is used for the frame work of wooden house and indoor/outdoor finishing in flame retardant and insect repellent materials mixture with the remaining heat of microwave. In addition, after a test of flame retardent treated item, it was identified that every mixture of phosphates corresponds with the standards of flame retardent, and upon investigation of moritality of 7 days after putting termites, it was showed that test piece immersed in the mixture of phosphates and heterocyclic compounds has the best characteristics, showing over 96% of high moritality. From the analysis of inward permeability of combined penetrant for the wood, it was decided that excellent performance in the flame retardent and insect resistance of the wood revealed due to full penetration of combined penetrant as it was found that combined penetrant penetrated through the whole inner cells of the wood.
To predict changes in the marine environment of the Beolgyo Stream Estuary in Jeonnam Province, South Korea, where cohesive tidal flats cover a broad area and a large bridge is under construction, this study conducted numerical simulations involving tidal flow and cohesive sediment transport. A wetting and drying (WAD) technique for tidal flats from the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) was applied to a large-scale-grid hydrodynamic module capable of evaluating the flow resistance of structures. Derivation of the eddy viscosity coefficient for wakes created by structures was accomplished through the explicit use of shear velocity and Chezy's average velocity. Furthermore, various field observations, including of tide, tidal flow, suspended sediment concentrations, bottom sediments, and water depth, were performed to verify the model and obtain input data for it. In particular, geologic parameters related to the evaluation of settling velocity and critical shear stresses for erosion and deposition were observed, and numerical tests for the representation of suspended sediment concentrations were performed to determine proper values for the empirical coefficients in the sediment transport module. According to the simulation results, the velocity variation was particularly prominent around the piers in the tidal channel. Erosion occurred mainly along the tidal channels near the piers, where bridge structures reduced the flow cross section, creating strong flow. In contrast, in the rear area of the structure, where the flow was relatively weak due to the formation of eddies, deposition and moderated erosion were predicted. In estuaries and coastal waters, changes in the flow environment caused by artificial structures can produce changes in the sedimentary environment, which in turn can affect the local marine ecosystem. The numerical model proposed in this study will enable systematic prediction of changes to flow and sedimentary environments caused by the construction of artificial structures.

Aggregate occupies about 70-85% of the concrete volume and is an important factor in reducing the drying shrinkage of concrete. However, when constructing high-rise buildings, it acts as a problem due to the high load of natural aggregates. If the load becomes large during the construction of a high-rise building, creep may occur and the ground may be eroded. Material costs increase and there are financial problems. In order to reduce the load on concrete, we are working to reduce the weight of aggregates. However, artificial lightweight aggregates affect the interface between the aggregate and the paste due to its higher absorption rate and lower adhesion strength than natural aggregates, affecting the overall strength of concrete. Therefore, in this study, in order to grasp the interface between natural aggregate and lightweight aggregate by type, we adopted a method of measuring electrical resistance using an EIS measuring device, which is a non-destructive test, and lightweight bone. The change in the state of the interface was tested on the outside of the material through a blast furnace slag coating. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the electric resistance was about 90% lower than that in the air-dried state through the electrolyte immersion, and the electric resistance differs depending on the type of aggregate and the presence or absence of coating. As a result of the experiment, the difference in compressive strength depending on the type of aggregate and the presence or absence of coating was shown, and the difference in impedance value and phase angle for each type of lightweight aggregate was shown.
The crack presented in concrete structures causes a structural defect, the durability decrease, and external damages etc. Therefore, it is necessary to improve durability through the effort to control the crack. Fluosilicic acid($H_2SiF_6$) is recovered as aqueous solution which absorbs $SiF_4$ produced from the manufacturing of industrial-graded $H_3PO_4$ or HF. Generally, fluosilicates prepared by the reaction between $H_2SiF_6$ and metal salts. Addition of fluosilicates to cement endows odd properties through unique chemical reaction with the fresh and hardened cement. Mix proportions for experiment were modulated at 0.45 of water to cement ratio and $0.0{\sim}2.0%$ of adding ratio of fluosilicate salt based inorganic compound. To evaluate correlation of concrete strength and adding ratio of fluosilicate salt based inorganic compound, the tests were performed about design strength(21, 24, 27 MPa) with 0.5% of adding ratio of fluosilicate salt based inorganic compound. Applications of fluosilicate salt based inorganic compound to reduce cracks resulted from plastic and drying shrinkage, to improve durability are presented in this paper. Durability was evaluated as neutralization, chloride ion penetration depth, freezing thawing resistant tests and weight loss according reinforcement corrosion. It is ascertained that the concrete added fluosilicate salt based inorganic compound showed m ability to reduce the total area and maximum crack width significantly as compared non-added concrete. In addition, the durability of concrete improved because of resistance to crack and watertightness by packing role of fluosilicate salt based inorganic compound obtained and pozzolanic reaction of soluble $SiO_2$ than non-added concrete.

A series of struvite (MgNH4PO4·6H2O) was synthesized and dried at various temperatures (15-60℃). Crystallization of struvite and its structural properties were significantly influenced by synthetic and drying temperature. Struvite was favorably formed at synthetic temperatures ≤30℃ with an inverse relationship between the crystallinity and synthetic temperature. The crystallinity of struvite was also significantly reduced by an increase in drying temperature from 45℃ to 60℃ due to the loss of structural water molecules and ammonium ions by the facilitated thermal decomposition. However, struvite formed at lower synthetic temperature showed higher crystallinity, and its amorphization by thermal decomposition was inhibited. These results demonstrate that struvite formed at low temperature with an stable condition thermodynamically through favorable crystallization shows high crystallinity and stability with respect to the structural and thermal resistance.
To evaluate the practical application of oyster shells(OS) as construction materials, an experimental study was performed. More specifically, the long-term mechanical properties and durability of concrete blended with oyster shells were investigated. Test results indicate that long-term strength of concrete blended with 10% oyster shells is almost identical to that of normal concrete. However, the long-term strength of concrete blended with 20% oyster shells is appreciably lower than that of normal concrete. Thereby, concrete with higher oyster shell blend has the possibility of negatively influencing the concrete long-term strength. Elastic modulus of concrete blended with crushed oyster shells decreases as the blending mixture rate increases. Namely, the modulus is reduced to approximately 10∼15% when oyster shells are blended up to 20% as the fine aggregate. The drying shrinkage strain increases with an increasing crushed oyster shells substitution rate. In addition, the existing model code of drying shrinkage and creep do not coincide with the test results of this study. An adequate prediction equation needs to be developed. The utilization of oyster shells as the fine aggregate in concrete has an insignificant effect on fleering and thawing resistance, carbonation and chemical attack of concrete. However, water permeability is considerably improved.
One of resins, V-Flon is useful as a coating material because YK-D80, which is a solvent for V-Flon, is not highly volatile. However, it can not completely harden and can flow out when metal artifacts are joined and restored in the process of the treatment. Therefore, after the impregnation process in order to accelerate the hardening speed of a coating material, usually a dry oven was adopted. This study focused on finding the problems on the dry oven which is employed to increase the speed and investigating the most effective solvent and its composition by checking any change occurred depending on the concentration of solvents. Six different types of solvents were selected and samples were prepared in a manner that they were impregnated with solvents in three concentrations respectively (10%, 20%, 30%). To determine the condition of the samples, the stability evaluation was performed by measuring the change of color and the gloss, the thickness of coated layers, the corrosion after coating, the water resistance by contact angles. Through the comparative experiments between the natural drying and the artificial drying using a dry oven, it was found that when the dry oven is used, some problems are identified on the point of forming a uniform and stable layer because of the unstable data collected from the forced artificial dry. The experiments performed using 3 different concentration rates (10%, 20%, 30%) presented that in the case of 10% V-Flon in Xylene (using as a solvent), its layer was thin as well as it showed the high water-barrier property, which allows it to form the stably coated layer with the lower gloss and color change.

For high strength concrete of 40~60 MPa, the effects on the early strength and concrete dry shrinkage properties replacing 60~80% of Ordinary Portland Cement with Blast Furnace Slag Powder and using the Alkali Activator (Modified Alkali Sulfate type) are considered in this study. 1% Alkali Activator to the binder, cumulative heat of hydration for 72 hours was increased approximately 45%, indicating that heat of hydration contributes to the early strength of concrete, and the slump flow of concrete decreased slightly by 3.7~6.6%, and the 3- and 7- strength was increased by 8~12%, which that the Alkali Activator (Modified Alkali Sulfate type) is effective for ensuring the early strength when manufacturing High Strength Concrete (60%) of Blast Furnace Slag Powder. Furthermore, the dry shrinkage test, both 40 MPa and 60 MPa specimens had level of length changes in order of BS40 > BS60 > BS60A > BS80A, and the use of the Alkali Activator somewhat improved resistance to dry shrinkage.
Most of the currently available rice threshers in Korea are of head-feeding type originally developed for threshing paddy at grain moisture content of 15 to 17% on wet basis. And prevailing rice harvesting system is swathing or cutting and bundling upright rice crop at a maturity stage of grain moisture content of ca. 28 to 20%, followed by transient natural drying in the field and threshing at grain moisture content of about 17%. The system often allows rather high field loss of rice both quantitatively and qualitatively. These necessitate use of a preharvest desiccant, and diquat has been registered recently as a rice desiccant. Aim of the present study is to determine the best time and rate of diquat application and to evaluate its utility as a rice desiccant under its optimal usage conditions in Korea. Diquat was not so effective for japonica rice varieties while it was very effective for the new varieties bred from indica x japonica crosses. The best time of application was the period from 2 days before to 3 days after physiological maturity of grain (moisture content of 28% w.b.) and the optimal rate was about 330g of diquat ion/ha. Applying diquat at the right time and rate dropped grain moisture to 15 to 16% (w.b.) within a week after treatment in contrast to that of 20 to 24% in untreated rice. Desiccation of rice crop with diquat resulted in 10 to 15% increase in grain resistance to shattering and significant reduction in percent green rice. However, there was no reduction in milled rice yield and percent whole kernel and was no change in the percent chalky rice and percent tinted rice. Diquat use appears highly desirable, if there is no residue problem which has not been studied in the present study.
