A Destruction Pattern Analysis of a Turbo-Molecular Pump According to the Foreline Clamp Damage in an ICP Dry Etcher for 300 mm Wafers

  • We analyzed the destruction patterns of a turbo-molecular pump (TMP) resulting from its sudden exposure of a foreline to the atmospheric pressure due to a destruction of the foreline connecting clamp of an ICP dry etcher for 300 mm wafers during high-vacuum operation ($5{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr). Unlike in the case of view port's breakage, the TMP's rotor module was crashed inside the chamber. The primary damage resulted from the collision of the blades and stators, and the secondary damage resulted from the breaking of the rotor - driving shaft assembly. The fixing screws of the rotor and axial shaft were bent and broken when the TMP controller output the maximum current even after the crash event. Electrical power consumption analysis of the TMP power controller confirmed it. The stress distributions were analyzed by a finite element method using CFD-ACE+ multi physics software. Rotating inertia of each parts and kinetic energies were calculated as well. 68% of the rotational kinetic energy is deposited by the rotor - shaft module.

  • Since 1960 tankers and bulk carriers have rapidly increased in size up to 500, 000 dwt. in operating as main system of transportation for the international trade at sea, and studies are doing carried out by various groups with a view to increasing the size still further. However, the service speed of these ships has remained almost constant, and steering devices of them have nearly not changed, comparing with regular size of a dry cargo ship. This creats the dituation where stopping distance and advance are proportionally longer for larger ships. In case of collision at sea, these vessels have been arised some serious casualties, such as sinking, fire and oil pollution. This paper analyzers a study for the handling of super huge vessels to avoid collision at sea, basing on the results of the crash astern test and turning test of them.

Distribution of Antifouling Agent Using Headspace Solid Phase Microextraction(HS-SPME) Method in Southwestern Coast of Korea (HS-SPME법을 이용한 한국 서남해 연안 해역에서의 방오제 분포 특성)

  • We study on the distribution characteristics of antifouling agents such as Sea-nine 211, Irgarol 1051, Diuron using HS-SPME method in southwestern coast of Korea. Short half-life of Sea-nine 211 was distributed in very low concentrations and/or below detection limits in all of the sampling points, both water and sediments samples. Irgarol 1051 was detected to have the highest concentration respectively $6.98{\mu}g/L$, 28.50 ng/g-dry wt in the seawater and sediments, and regional distribution characteristics did not appeared. Strong bioaccumulation and long half-life of Diuron was distributed higher concentration than in all sampling point and was analyzed to have the highest concentration(3882.22 ng/g-dry wt) Mo7(Mokpo)'s sediment. Irgarol 1051 and Diuron distributed in the shipbuilding industry and ship marina are located just at the point to found in high concentrations. In addition, the distribution of the antifouling agent materials were lower in concentration than in inner bay to outter bay in sediments. Antifouling agent materials from these results were contaminated high potential from port and shipbuilding industry located in inner bay.

Generation of Grid Maps of GPS Signal Delays in the Troposphere and Analysis of Relative Point Positioning Accuracy Enhancement (GPS 신호의 대류권 지연정보 격자지도 생성과 상대측위 정확도 향상 평가)

  • GPS signal delay that caused by dry gases and water vapor in troposphere is a main error source of GPS point positioning and it must be eliminated for precise point positioning. In this paper, we implemented to generate tropospheric delay grid map over the Korean Peninsula based on post-processing method by using the GPS permanent station network in order to determine the availability of tropospheric delay generation algorithm. GIPSY 5.0 was used for GPS data process and nationwide AWS observation network was used to calculate the amount of dry delay and wet delay separately. As the result of grid map's accuracy analysis, the RMSE between grid map data and GPS site data was 0.7mm in ZHD, 7.6mm in ZWD and 8.5mm in ZTD. After grid map accuracy analysis, we applied the calculated tropospheric delay grid map to single frequency relative positioning algorithm and analyzed the positioning accuracy enhancement. As the result, positioning accuracy was improved up to 36% in case of relative positioning of Suwon(SUWN) and Mokpo(MKPO), that the baseline distance is about 297km.

The Causal Relationship Test between Marine Business Cycle and Shipping Market Using Heterogeneous Mixed Panel Framework (해운경기변동과 선박시장에 대한 다차원 혼합 패널 인과성 분석)

  • Using panel data on freight rates and ship prices in the dry freighter market from January 2015 to December 2019, this study investigates the characteristics of shipping industry fluctuations. The analysis aims at two aspects of academic contribution. First, this study analyzes the relationship between shipping indicators and ship price based on separate dry-bulk ships, while the previous research considered the overall shipping index and weighted average ship prices. Second, the VAR model for the causality test is extended to a heterogeneous mixed panel model capable of limiting coefficients. There is a peak estimated by removing the cross-correlation problem, which is mainly raised in panel data analysis, using bootstrap estimation and solving the problem of information loss due to differences in non-stationary data. An empirical investigation of the causal relationship between economic fluctuations and ship price shows that the effect on the ship price from the freight is significant at the 1% level. This implies that there is a one-way relationship with demand in the shipping industry rather than a bilateral relationship.

Analysis and Forecasting of Daily Bulk Shipping Freight Rates Using Error Correction Models (오차교정모형을 활용한 일간 벌크선 해상운임 분석과 예측)

  • This study analyzes the dynamic characteristics of daily freight rates of dry bulk and tanker shipping markets and their forecasting accuracy by using the error correction models. In order to calculate the error terms from the co-integrated time series, this study uses the common stochastic trend model (CSTM model) and vector error correction model (VECM model). First, the error correction model using the error term from the CSTM model yields more appropriate results of adjustment speed coefficient than one using the error term from the VECM model. Furthermore, according to the adjusted determination coefficients (adjR2), the error correction model of CSTM-model error term shows more model fitness than that of VECM-model error term. Second, according to the criteria of mean absolute error (MAE) and mean absolute scaled error (MASE) which measure the forecasting accuracy, the results show that the error correction model with CSTM-model error term produces more accurate forecasts than that of VECM-model error term in the 12 cases among the total 15 cases. This study proposes the analysis and forecast tasks 1) using both of the CSTM-model and VECM-model error terms at the same time and 2) incorporating additional data of commodity and energy markets, and 3) differentiating the adjustment speed coefficients based the sign of the error term as the future research topics.

Distribution Characteristics of Dioxins in Marine Sediment from Busan Port in Korea

  • Eight marine sediments from Busan port in Korea were annually analyzed to examine the concentration distribution of dioxins from 2006 to 2010. Yearly mean concentration of dioxins ranged from 186.3 to $383.3pg\;g^{-1}$ in real values and 5.087 to 8.541 pg-TEQ (Toxicity equivalency) based on dry weight of samples. The dioxin concentration at the site near fishing market was the highest concentration among all sampling sites. Also the dioxin concentration at the sites with various pollutant sources such as large ships, sewage influx and thermal power station as well as fishing market was higher than that of the sites without specific pollutant sources. Another main factor that affects the dioxin concentration is topography characteristics of the bay. The bay has relatively high dioxin concentration because of the lack of the pollutant diffusion. This study demonstrated that the dioxin concentration in the site with pollutant sources and the lack of the pollutant diffusion was relatively high as compared with the other sites. As a result of contribution ratio of dioxin congeners, OCDD (Octachlorodibenzodioxin) in all sites was major contributor in real value, in contrast, dioxin congeners in TEQ values were dominated by 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF.

A Forecast of Shipping Business during the Year of 2013 (해운경기의 예측: 2013년)

  • It has been more than four years since the outbreak of global financial crisis. However, the world economy continues to be challenged with new crisis such as the European debt crisis and the fiscal cliff issue of the U.S. The global economic environment remains fragile and prone to further disappointment, although the balance of risks is now less skewed to the downside than it has been in recent years. It's no wonder that maritime business will be bearish since the global business affects the maritime business directly as well as indirectly. This paper, hence, aims to predict the Baltic Dry Index representing the shipping business using the ARIMA-type models and Hodrick-Prescott filtering technique. The monthly data cover the period January 2000 through January 2013. The out-of-sample forecasting performance is measured by three summary statistics: root mean squared percent error, mean absolute percent error and mean percent error. These forecasting performances are also compared with those of the random walk model. This study shows that the ARIMA models including Intervention-ARIMA have lower rmse than random walk model. This means that it's appropriate to forecast BDI using the ARIMA models. This paper predicts that the shipping market will be more bearish in 2013 than the year 2012. These pessimistic ex-ante forecasts are supported by the Hodrick-Prescott filtering technique.

  • A lab-scale fundamental study to develop the solvent extraction process of ship wash wastewater containing TBT was carried out. For various solvents, including diesels for car and ship, bunker B, thinner, toluene, and ether, the extraction efficiencies of TBT from synthetic ship wash wastewater were compared The effect of extraction conditions, such as solvent amount, time and intensity of agitation, and pH, on the extraction efficiency of TBT was evaluated Diesel for ship showed better extraction efficiency of TBT than those of other tested solvents, and the proper amount of the extraction solvent for 1L of the wastewater was l0mL. When the agitation intensity was increased from 50rpm to 250rpm, the TBT remained in the wastewater after the extraction was decreased from around 120ppb to 2.8ppb. The remaining TBT in the wastewater was sharply decreased from 1hr of the extraction time, but was slightly increased again after 5hrs of the extraction time. The efficiency of TBT extraction was good in the weak acid range of pH, but was not significant as much as the others.

A Development of Floating Dock Controller for Skid Launching System (Skid Launching System을 위한 Floating Dock Controller의 개발)

  • The authors had consisted the construction of shipyard must be investigated under the consideration of long term ship's demand and so the Floating Dock might be an alternative to the dry dock. This paper shows a development of Floating Dock Controller for Skid Launching System(SLS). While loading out a block to the Floating Dock and launching ship from the Floating Dock, the balancing of the ship and the dock is very important and achieved by adjusting the Ballast tank of the Floating Dock In this paper a Floating Dock Controller for SLS was developed through the on-line interface of VRC(Valve Remote Control), Tank Level & Draft Measuring System and Valve Control algorithm on Tank Plan. The control system developed was applied to a shipbuilding and verified good and stable.
