  • Drug eruption is a cutaneous reaction caused by various drugs. It is a very common drug induced adverse reaction. Contrast media induced drug eruption is rare. But approximately 10% of people injected with contrast media experience adverse reaction, and drug eruption accounts for more than 40% of all adverse reactions. We report a case of mild drug eruption and its treatment process based on korean traditional medicine. The patient is a 50 years old female diagnosed with functional dyspepsia. The patient had gastric discomfort and alternation between diarrhea and constipation. All symptoms showed nearly complete remission with continued korean traditional medical treatment. The patient had been injected with contrast media for Computed tomography(CT) evaluation of her breast cancer history. Rashes appeared on back and abdomen, and urticaria and pruritus appeared on the patient's finger 1 day after injection. We prescribed Goreisan(TSUMURA CO &, TJ-17) and acupuncture on Quchi(LI11), Zusanli(ST36), Yangxi(LI5), Yanggu(SI5). Consequently, the drug eruption showed remarkable improvement. So the author reports korean traditional medicine is effective complementary treatment for drug eruption.

  • Drug eruption refers to an adverse effect which is unintentionally given rise to by dosage, injection, inhalation, suppository and ointment, etc. Maculopapular, urticarial, morbilliform, papulosquamous, pustular, and bullous morphologies may be encountered. Adverse drug reactions also can cause pruritus or dysesthesia unaccompanied by rash. We treated a patient suffered from maculopapular rash and pruritus with acupuncture, herb medication and wet dressing. After treatment we observed the improvement. Based on this study, it is considered that oriental medical treatment can be applied to the management of drug eruption.

  • A man visited the Dept. of Oriental Medical Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology Hospital, Dong-eui University with the dermatitis exfoliativa by drug eruption. He was suffering from the whole body itching, rubefaction, edema, scale and the feeling a chill. The drug eruption's cause assumed antibiotics. We treated a patient with Oriental Medicines(the herbal medicine of internal use and external use), aroma oils and acupuncture. After four days or so, the itching, rubefaction, edema of the skin was recovered remarkably. After one weeks or so, the scale of the skin disease was improved remarkably, we think that these are good cases to treat with Oriental Medicine, Yeongyopaedog-san. We suggest that Oriental Herb medicines have an effect with the dermatitis exfoliativa and the drug eruption.

  • Objective : This study describes a case of urticarial drug eruption assumed to be caused by non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) treated with oriental medicine and acupuncture. Methods : We studied the case of 20-years-old drug eruption patient. The patient complained of urticaria, angioedema, itching and burning sensation after taking NSAIDs. The indications for NSAIDs prescribed were common cold symptom and sore throat. For diagnosis, blood test and urinalysis were done. For treatment, acupuncture and herbal-medicine treatment were applied. Results : The patient of this report were examined for 13 days. The radiological finding was within normal limits. The WBC, neutrophil, lymphocyte and eosinophil level normalized during admission. After 3 days, itching and wheal reaction of whole body disappeared except facial symptom. The angioedema, itching and wheal reaction in the face was almost improved in the 4th day after discharge. Conclusions : We may expect that the oriental medical therapy improves the urticarial drug eruption caused by NSAIDs.

  • Drug eruption is a relatively commin dermatological disorder and may cause significant problems. The treatment is to stop using a drug that may cuase a drug eruption. In some cases, steroids and antihistamines can be used supportively. According to some reports, Onchungeum(溫淸飮) has steroid-like effects and antihistaminic effects. We administered Onchungeum(溫淸飮) a patient with severe itching because of a drug eruption. After administration of Onchungeum(溫淸飮), itching decreased to much degrees. It can be suggested that Onchungeum(溫淸飮) can be used to treat symptoms of allergic skin disease like a drug eruption.

Histopathologic findings were hyperkeratosis, hypergranulosis, hydrophic degenaration of basal layer, band like lymphohistiocytic infiltration in the upper dermis and perivascular lymphohistiocytic infiltration in the deep dermis. She was treated with systemic corticosteroid, and then skin lesion were slightly improved. • The drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptom (DRESS) syndrome is a severe adverse drug-induced reaction which includes a severe skin eruption, fever, hematologic abnormalities (eosinophilia or atypical lymphocytes) and internal organ involvement. The most frequently reported drug was anticonvulsants. The diagnosis of DRESS syndrome is challenging because the pattern of cutaneous eruption and the types of organs involved are various. The treatments for DRESS syndrome are culprit drug withdrawal and corticosteroids. Here we report a 71-year-old man with skin eruption with eosinophilia and hepatic and renal involvement that appeared 4 weeks after he had taken anti-tuberculosis drugs (isoniazid, ethambutol, rifampicin, and pyrazinamide), and resolved after stopping anti-tuberculosis drugs and the administration of systemic corticosteroids. DRESS recurred after re-challenging isoniazid, we identified isoniazid was causative drug.
