  • Comparative analysis of driving inverters for piezo-electric transformer (PT) is performed and the suit- able drive circuit for portable devices such as personal digital assistants (PDA) is chosen with the experiment in this paper. As a result, a single-switch inverter with a small two winding reactor is chosen, and then the advantages of this method are clarified. It is also confirmed that the driving inverter with this method enables to realize a stabilized AC 400v output and 82% power efficiency from DC 3V input under the conditions of the variations of load current or input voltage from the experiments. • A current subtraction technique with parallel operation system is proposed to remove excessive current in touch screen application. The proposed current subtraction remove the current which go into the input node of charge amplifier. The value of subtraction current is same with current when touch screen is not touched. As a result, charge amplifier output is only proportional to variation of mutual capacitor, which make dynamic rage is increased. Also, Transmitter (Tx) driving signal and subtraction driving signal are out of phase each other. Thus, noise generated in Tx is cancelled. The proposed IC is implemented in a mixed-mode 0.18-um CMOS process. Overall system is designed for touch screen panel (TSP) with 16 driving lines and 8 sensing lines. 5-V supply voltages are used in the proposed circuits. For multiple Tx driving signal, Walsh codes are used and signal frequency is 300 khz. By using proposed technique, dynamic rage is improved 36 dB.

  • A method is described for the design and fabrication of the sensor interface circuits on the Clark electrodes for the dissolved oxygen(DO). The discussion includes a method for the +5 V single-supply driving for the sensor circuits, which has low power comsumption for the front-end electronics. DO probe under test is composed of the Clark electrode with silver anode, gold cathode and the electrolyte of half saturated KCI solution and the FEP teflon memtrance for the oxygen penetration. Typical polarograms for the DO probes by using this sensor circuit reveals high accuracy over 99% of the I to V conversion. Partial pressure of oxygen obtained from the polarograms are well suited to the results calculated. It is expected that the proposed sensor circuits can be utilized into the customized IC for the battery-driven small-size DO meters.

  • New charge pump circuits with low area and high power efficiency are proposed and verified in this paper. These pump circuits do not suffer the voltage stress higher than $V_{DD}$ across their pumping capacitors. Thus they can use the thin-oxide MOSFETs as the pumping capacitors. Using the thin-oxide capacitors can reduce the area of charge pumps greatly while keeping their driving capability. Comparing the new pump (NCP-2) with the conventional pump circuit using the thick-oxide capacitors shows that the power efficiency of NCP-2 is the same with the conventional one but the area efficiency of NCP-2 is improved as much as 71.8% over the conventional one, when the $V_{PP}/V_{DD}$ ratio is 3.5 and $V_{DD}$=1.8V.

  • In an attempt to fabricate all inclusive display systems we are presenting a study on several elements that would be used as building blocks for all-on-board integrated applications on stainless steel foils. These systems would include in the same substrate all or many of the components needed to drive a flat panel OLED display. We are reporting results on both digital and analog circuits on stainless steel foils. Shift registers running at speeds greater than 1.0MHz are shown as well as oscillators operating at over 40MHz. Pixel circuits for driving organic light emitting diodes are presented. The device technology of choice is that based on poly-silicon TFT technology as it has the potential of producing circuits with good performance and considerable cost savings over the established processes on quartz or glass substrates (amorphous Silicon a-Si:H or silicon on Insulator SOI).

  • Since brightness is proportional to the operating current, a method of connecting several LEDs in series and driving with a constant current source is widely used for driving circuits of LED lights. Because several LEDs are connected in series, if some LEDs open due to a fault, the current path is broken and all other LEDs connected in series are turned off. In this paper, we designed a circuit to solve this problem by connecting a Zener diode having a breakdown voltage of about 0.4V higher than the LED operating voltage in parallel with each LED to create a current bypass in case of LED failure. Through simulations and experiments, it was confirmed that the current of the Zener diode hardly flows when the LED is operating normally, and that the Zener diode stably operates as a current bypass when the LED fails.

  • This paper investigates efficiency and power factor of Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) using Finite Element Method considered driving circuit. The efficiency and power factor are calculated in Input terminal and Output terminal respectively. When calculating power factor, apparent power is obtained by effective voltage and current because SRM is operated by switching of driving circuit. Efficiency is calculated by mechanical output and active power. Finally, the characteristics of efficiency and power factor in three proposed models are compared due to the switching pattern.
