After a self-administered survey was conducted, the following findings were given: A great deal of the students who accounted for 75.8 percent were ever disturbed in daily routine life by drinking over the past year. As for the influence of drinking awareness on the amount of drinking, the amount of drinking was under the significant influence of the following five items. The first was that alcohol was an energizer(p<.001), and the second was that drinking led to a sound sleep(p<.01). The third was that I drank too much with my close friends often(p<.05), and the fourth was that alcohol used as a hangover-chaser was conducive to a hangover(p<.05). The fifth was that alcohol had the largest impact on the liver(p<.05). All the variables made a 43.4% prediction of the amount of drinking. In conclusion, the medical and health-related majors who learned about the impact of drinking on the human body in a firsthand or secondhand manner had a tendency to drink a less amount of alcohol and do less binge drinking. It's advisable to take advantage of the knowledge of medical and health-related majors on the human body and drinking as resources of anti-drinking education.

This research aimed to describe the relationship between drinking behavior and drinking drive based on the social demographic characteristics. Methods: This paper used secondary data for analyses which was derived from the national representative samples of adults; National Health and Nutrition Surveys by Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs in 1998 and 2001. For data analyses, univariate analysis, Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were adopted for the samples of male adults who were driving and 20 years old and more. Results: The prevalence of drinking drive varied significantly among socio-demographic characteristics. The year prevalence rates of drinking drive were 29.1% in 1998 and 16.4% in 2001. In the rates of drinking drive, males were higher than those of females in both years. By age, twenties to thirties showed the highest ratio of drinking drive(odd ratio=18.8), compared with the sixties. Related to the occupation, the persons who were engaging in farming and fishery showed the highest ratio(odd ratio=3.73) of drinking drive in comparison to the unemployed. Conclusions: People who drink alcohol frequently tended to have more experiences of drinking drive. In addition, the drivers who drink more amount of alcohol drinking were significantly associated with higher rates of drinking drive, as well. Strategy based on the socio-demographic characteristics may provide a promising prevention of reducing drinking drive. Community-based efforts, education, self-awareness and public-awareness to address drinking and drinking drive problems are effective in reducing drinking drive. Enacting comprehensive regulations which control drinking drive can reduce both alcohol use and drinking drive.

  • Clean and safe water is the fundamental element for the good life of people. However, expanding the distrust on the tap water increased the anxiety on drinking water and accelerated the growth of the natural and purified water market. In this respect, this study was made to find an opportunity to invigorate the use of the Seoul tap water for drinking by means of assessing the awareness of the citizen and the current condition on the tap water in Seoul. The findings were that the direct use of the tap water for drinking was very low and 'use after boiling' was also lower relative to 'use of purified water'. Also, the education on the environment should include the importance of the use of the tap water to improve the awareness of the citizen on the tap water and the administrative role, typically for educational institutes and schools, might be required to increase the use of the tab water for drinking.
