The term "deep holes" is used to describe the machining of holes with a relatively large length to diameter ratio. The main feature of BTA deep hole drilling is the stabilization of cutting force necessary for the self guidance of the drill head. An additional feature is the cutting tool edges that are unsymmetrically placed on the drill head. There is an increasing necessity to predict the hole geometry and other dynamic stability behavior of deep hole drilling guidance. In this study, the effects of BTA deep hole drilling conditions on the hole profile machined piece are analyzed using domain analysis technique. The profile of deep hole drilled work piece is related to cutting speed, feed rate, chip flow, tool wear, and so on. This study deals with the experimental results obtained during the BTA drilling on SM45C, SM55C carbon steels and SCM440 steels under various cutting conditions, and these results are compared with analytical evaluations.aluations.

Recently, the trends toward reduction in size and weight of industrial products increased the application of micro hole for manufacturing gadgets of high precision and gave rise to a great deal of interest for micro hole drilling M/C. Quite a few research work is performed on micro drilling on domestic basis compared with the tendency of analyzing cutting mechanism, adaptive control, monitoring of generally available drills of diameter greater than 1mm. This study adresses the design, manufacturing and controlling a micro hole drilling M/C with the overload detection instrument and the step feed mechanism. Controlling and monitoring of the drilling process are acomplished on PC basis for more user interfaces and effectiveness. The test machine of the results of this research shows a good foundation for extending further micro hole machining technique.
The drilling monitoring is a technique to assess rock mass properties by analyzing the mechanical quantities measured by drilling process. Since drilling survey can be conducted on real-time-basis for excavating blast holes or rockbolt holes, it may enables fast and quantitative prediction and evaluation of rock mass. Though a number of studies have been conducted on the drilling data, the selection of drilling parameters and numerical quantification of mechanical quantities or rock mass have not been well established yet. In this study, drilling tests were conducted with homogeneous rock specimen to identify drilling parameters and the relation of the drilling data. As a result, it is verified that above all drilling parameters, the percussion was the most important factor on the excavatability of hydraulic drilling.

Purpose: In recent years, guided implant surgery has been widely used for the convenience of patients and surgeons. Further streamlining the surgical procedure would make implant surgery more convenient. Low-speed water-free conditions are often used in guided implant surgery. Therefore, in this study, we attempted to confirm once again whether drilling was safe at a low speed without water. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate whether a simplified drilling protocol that omits some intermediate steps in the drilling process was safe from the viewpoint of heat generation. Methods: D1 density artificial bone blocks were drilled under 50 rpm, 10 N·cm water-free conditions, and the surface temperature was measured using a digital infrared camera. First, drilling was performed with the sequential drilling method, which is the most widely used technique. Second, for each drill diameter, the temperature change was measured while performing simplified drilling with omission of the previous 1, 2, or 3 steps. Results: In sequential drilling, the heat generated during drilling at all diameters was less than the critical temperature of osteonecrosis (47℃) except for the ⌀2 drill. Statistical significance was observed in all groups when comparing sequential and simplified drilling in the ⌀3.2, ⌀3.8, and ⌀4.3 drills (P<0.001). However, in the simplified drilling procedures, the temperature was below the osteonecrosis threshold temperature (47℃) except for the ⌀4.3 drill with the omission of the previous 3 steps (⌀3.0, ⌀3.2, and ⌀3.8). Conclusions: In general, drilling under low-speed, water-free conditions has shown stable results in terms of heat generation. Simplified drilling showed statistically significantly greater heat generation than sequential drilling. However, most of the diameters and omitted steps seem to be clinically acceptable, so it will be useful if an appropriate selection is made according to the patient's clinical condition.
An amplitude modulation technique for increasing the laser penetration efficiency for metals has been studied. By chopping electro-optically Nd:YAG laser pulse, the threshold energy for reliable hole drilling was decreased significantly and the penetration depth was increased. It was observed that the effect of chopping was optimal at 8-12 kHz with 60% duty cycle. It is believed that this improvement is due to an increase in the vapor recoil pressure and reduced plasma screening.
This paper presents the optimization of a drilling operation subject to machining constraints such as power, torque, thrust, speed and feed rate. The optimization is meant to minimize the machining time required to produce a hole. For the first time, the effects of a pilot hole are included in the formulation of the machining constraints. The optimization problem is solved by using the geometric programming technique. The dual problem is simplified based on the characteristics of the problem, and the effects of machining constraints on the machining variables are identified.
In this paper, the performance of uncoated- and Titanium nitride aluminium TiAlN-PVD coated- carbide twist drills were investigated when drilling aluminium alloy, Al 6061. This research focuses on the optimization of drilling parameters using the Taguchi technique to obtain minimum surface roughness and thrust force. A number of drilling experiments were conducted using the L9 orthogonal array on a CNC vertical machining center. The experiments were performed on Al 6061 material l blocks using uncoated and coated HSS twist drills under dry cutting conditions. Analysis of variance(ANOVA) was employed to determine the most significant control factors. The main objective is to find the important factors and combination of factors influence the machining process to achieve low surface roughness and low cutting thrust force. From the analysis of the Taguchi method indicates that among the all-significant parameters, feed rate are more significant influence on surface roughness and cutting thrust than spindle speed.
Primary stability is a fundamental criteria of implant success. There has been various trials to increase initial stability and bone to implant contact. The objective of osteotome technique is to preserve all the existing bone by minimizing or even eliminating the drilling sequence of the surgical protocol. The bone layer adjacent to the osteotomy site is progressively compacted with various bone condensers(osteotomes) this will result in a denser bone to implant contact. This improved bone density helps to optimize primary implant stability in low density bone. The use of wide implant is one of methods to increse primary stability. They can be used in special situations in which they can increase the surface area available for implant anchorage and improve their primary stability The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the osteotome technique and implant width on primary stability. Osteotome technique was compared with conventional drilling method by resonance frequency measurments according to the implant fixtures diameter. The results were as follows: 1. The average of ISQ value was sightly higher in osteotome technique, but there was not statistically significant in regular and narrow implant(p <0.05). 2. Either osteotome technique or conventional technique. ISQ value was significantly higer as increasing of implant diameter(p <0.05). 3. ISQ value of drilling technique was higer than those of osteotome technique in wide implant. It was assumed to be caused by difference in final preparation diameter.

Injection molding is a flexible production technique for the manufacturing of polymer products, but introduces residual stresses. Residual stresses in a structural material or component are those stresses which exist in the object without other external loads. The layer removal and hole drilling method are used for the measurement of residual stress in injection molded polystyrene part. The hole drilling method is potentially more flexible for determining residual stress in complex geometries and can be used as an adoptable technique for the measurement of residual stress in polymeric materials. Results obtained by experiments agree with each other.
This is the pre-study to pile up the basic technique for the electro-discharge machining in the field of micro-drilling. The machined chips are flowed out from the machining area by the flow arisen from the high speed rotation of the electrode. The cylindrical shape electrode, whose diameter is 0.5mm, is clamped by the three point clamping type clamper and the clamper is attached at the front shaft of the high speed rotating DC motor. The current for machining is controlled by pulse width modulation technique and the machining conditions such as frequency and duty ratio are changed to find out the effect of the variables for machined results.
